Great video and lots of good tips! I notice you fly with +50% pitch trimmer, you should try -30% and see just what a 110 can do in a turn fight in ‘agile’ mode :) I split my cannons and MGs onto 2 buttons so when I’m doing the ‘baiting’ shots to get planes to turn I only use my MGs and can save the precious cannons. Great that you mentioned the ammo counter - we had guys join my squadron who didn’t even realise you could reload until we told them ;) Took a while for them to grasp you have 180 rounds in 3 x 60 round drums (so that first 80 and 20 are actually 180 and 120). If you haven’t already, then next time just before you reload should jump in the back seat, you get to see Hans moving the 60 round magazines into place (the 37mm rounds look even cooler stacked in the gunners floor during reload and it’s a good way to check your ammo). Keep these videos coming, we need more 110s in the skies!
The stats @ 2:11 : The only opposing plane with a functional draw (2 wins, 2 losses) is the Sturmovik vs. E2. My best “dogfight” ever was in a Sturmovik against a Bf-110. More of a turtlefight, actually and ended in a draw. I think he got bored or frustrated and flew away. I don’t have the reactions for typical dogfights, so find this video very interesting. The Sturmovik is my favorite plane, with the Bf-110 a close second. Frustrating because as a solo player fighter cover is so important and difficult to get. (Noticed that the Ishak is the only plane out ahead of you, 0:2. Not the plane with the best reputation in the game, so that is just kind of fun.)
These tips are useful to me, as I regularly fly the Bf110. I mainly looked at this video as I got shot down more times than I like. Hopefully, these tips will help me survive more and be offensive in this plane as well. Still working on situational awareness, which is a challenge for me, not always helped with my Autism. Often get baffled, confused and panic in defensive situations
I’d love to see some more guides about anything really. Maybe defensive flying tips for Allies and for Axis would be cool, or using the gyro scopes if you use them and definitely more “how-to” for specific aircraft like the P-38 or the Mig would be cool. I really appreciate how you talk things through and explain things or put up tips in post. Highlight videos are cool of course but you seem to have a knack for making a quick digestible guide amongst some great highlights
My quick 2 cents. If your in a Yak you fight the 110 like a 109 is supposed to fight your Yak. Basically the 110 wins fights with the same gimmick as the Hurricane. By capitalizing on overshoots, however this is not hard to counter with experience, but it can lead to a prolonged fight which is fine if your alone, but dangerous if the 110 or Hurricane has allies.
To compare and contrast my thoughts, I would recommend checking out xjammer, he is considered one of the best heavy fighter pilots in the Il-2 community.
