origami katakana I made with the diagram like you and discover that it thirds with your comment and tried with thirds. My tsuru with "pairs divisions" was wayyyy better than the one with thirds. That's because the one with "pairs division" make the rose a little smaller and make easy to get up the tail and head without crumple both. (my english is okay? brazilian guy here).
Arturo Fonseca Hmm... for me it turned out crumpled the first time. With thirds the corners of the rose line up perfectly with the sides of the base and make it way easier to do it for me, but I guess the other way works also.
Well.... my cranes with 1/3 still all crumpled in the tail and head :( But in the end I really liked most the one with the smaller rose...i think this make the origami more "elegant" :)
