How to Forge a Bell! Great Christmas Gift Ideas!

Carrying on with the last video where I make a small Saxon Knife or letter opener I made a second gift idea. A small bell which turned out amazing. This project could be a gift as a house bell or even as an ornament for the Christmas tree. In this video I'll show you how I make the bell through each step.

I must agree that it is titanium. Very interested in seeing you forge with it. Nice work, I have alot of pipe laying around that I haven't been real interested in messing with.

titanium. Thanks for showing how to use the cross pein and the horn to make the top of the bell Dan, not having an appropriate jig to do that is the only reason I have not had a go at a bell. I will have a shot at it using the pein now!

Titanium for sure, the spark test and the fact it feels light in the hand as aluminium does is how we check it in the scrapyard I work in. Unfortunately we don't get many larger bits like your piece. Great work and presentation skills by the way Dan.

Really cool idea and simple dan. The bit inside the bells called a clapper, I know this as I had to machine a new bronze bush for the village church bell clapper a few weeks ago. Keep up the great work!

It’s good to see something a bit different, I’m tempted to go outside and have a go at this today. I’ll probably give the scaff pole a good soak in Muriatic acid first though! (Outside, obviously). Excellent vid again, and a nice little project. P.s. I reckon titanium 😀

That there be titanium. Man at Arms Reforged has done a couple videos with titanium, the most recent was Blade's sword. They made sure they emphasized how bright the spark are when grinding titanium. Its also really cool as it can be forged. I watched a video by modernblacksmith at least 6 years ago of him forging a titanium throwing knife.

Great bell video Dan, the metal has to be titanium, check out a video by Joshua De Lisle (designer Blacksmith) where he made his wife a lovely ring using the same material. Keep up the great work you do. Hope you have a great Christmas.

Nice little bell Dan :) Have you thought how swaged pipe like that can be used to make flowers? Scaff tube sized and down, tube in tube. I've made roses that way before. Titanium btw ;)

A guillotine tool with the appropriate dies will do the job as that's what he used, but one could also use a bottom fuller in the hardie hole along with the cross pein, or a spring fuller as well.

..i'll have to go with Titanium also. If it was kryptonite you would be sicker. Unobtanium is just way to expensive. Good Job on the Bell as always. It may be a little off but aint we all...??!!!

Titanium 😁 and great vid dan what's the best way to get the zinc off the pipe as I may be able to get hold of some scaffolding bar and obviously would prefer not to die

Chris Lawrence may I suggest grinding using a flap wheel, preferably outside and using appropriate PPE ( dust mask, gloves, goggles etc). The grinding leaves a grey finish at first with no sparks. Work through this until sparks fly as normal and a shiny unbroken silver finish is achieved. Stay safe.
