How to forge an axe: Step by step. AUTINE and bladesmith John Neeman

In order to clear up the confusion that is still going on about "John Neeman" and his previous workplace, please read the following information.
John Neeman is Jānis Nīmanis who is the bladesmith of AUTINE by John Neeman. He is also the same John Neeman who was in Neeman Tools project. John left the company because he did not agree with the vision of his former partner for the company. John has always been honest and fair to colleagues and customers. Those are the values he never compromised. If you have doubts, then ask Neeman Tools who actually makes the tools there.
In 2012 John Neeman created AUTINE by John Neeman (www.autinetools.com). This is the only website you can use to purchase John's authentic tools.
We cannot change the rumors that others spread or what you will choose to believe. We are thankful for our supporters and our friends for sticking with us all the way through this confusion. What matters is that we know who we are and our loyal customers are satisfied.
Now, back to the video:
This video shows how to make an axe by laminating tehnique. It is a short insight in forging methods used by bladesmith John Neeman.
"At spring 2012 I, bladesmith John Neeman, got in an accident. My face and hands were burned. At this tough moment some people from Forestry Forum were with me in their thoughts, supporting me both morally and financially. Thanks to them I was able to recover faster."
The axe you can see in this video, along with two other axes, is made as thanks to the great people on Forestry Forum. We decided to pay it forward, sending these three tools to administration of the forum for an auction, which aim is to raise funds for maintaining the site.

My daughter here in Alabama said that your videos are the best made vids on RU-vid and I agree. I am looking to build a forge and start doing some blacksmithing, I am 49 years old but not to old to learn something new. Keep doing vids. Sorry to hear of your accident but I am gladd you pressed on. I too was in a bad accident and have memory problems but I don't let it get me down. Thank you for keeping this alive. I could never do this myself but I'm glad someone does. I had no idea the insert for the blade would be as small as it is. In a world were things are disposed of after use and we are taught to run away from anything even remotely resembling nostalgia, there will always be a few people who refuse to conform.

hot metal is so calming to watch get moulded into shape... blacksmithing is like therapy too me. the metallic clanking of metal on the anvil, watching the sparks illuminate unseen areas, and the warm glow of heated iron.

Well I have an Autine American felling axe and it is by far the highest quality and craftsmanship I have ever seen. I work hard for my money and was apprehensive at the price point initially. After considerable research and a bit of overtime I made the decision to place an order. I must say I was not disappointed! The handle alone is a perfect melding of form and function. Beautiful grain of an excellent orientation for durability. The delivery was actually earlier than originally promised and the customer service was excellent as well, with an update near completion, along with pictures detailing the grain selection of the handle. They went above and beyond meeting my request and I will not hesitate to order again. To be able to have such talent and skill available in making a very personally crafted tool at such price is of great value to me. Hey, i'm a British kid of 15 year of age, and i've been looking up how to do things without the industrial age and machine just in case everything collapses and we have nothing BUT these old skills. Your video has been EXTREMELY helpfull, and, in fact, more helpfull than most others, as you use as few "extremeties" of mackinery as possible. Of course i understand the use of the automated hammer (i know that may not be what it is called) but i can still see how to do it with any manual hammer.

Probably because they ordered and payed 50% in advance for an axe that should be ready after 7 month and after 8 months they did not received yet and when you write to autine they don't even answer. customer care FAIL

Unfortunately that exactly what happened to me. I made a Payment over 9 months ago by paypal, the 22th of march for a splitting axe, and they said that they needed 6-7 month. 2 months ago i tried to contact Autine more than once to have an idea about the delivery and they never answered. So, I guess that I have been fucked up by mr Neeman.

A mighty fine work, clearlyl presented and, sadly, a rare chance to see a blacksmith performing. The hand, the eye, the brain, the heart, and knowhow, are so precious and (almost) forgotten. Please think it over when you buy a cheap tool at Walmart! Hand forged tools last a life-long to be transmited to the next generation as a treasure...

It takes at least 5 hours to get the axe to the stage you can see in the end of the video! Then there's the handle and shetah making....takes a while

I love this. I want to become a blacksmith and especially want to learn how to make all sorts of axe's and hammers. I'm glad you're doing well sir- and I dont lie when I say this, this video touched me. I know the music did a lot of it, but around 1:33 when the flakes start falling off, and something about that and the whole fire heart of that axe head being forged- as poeticly mushy as it may sound, really made me well up. I love the pinging and the creation of this, it's so breathtaking. I want to do this. It's on my bucket list.

hey john, step by step that's the method i was taught by an ageing swiss smith. there is far less jar in the tool use when the body of the tool is mild steel. similar when fire welding peen and face of high carbon steel on mild steel hammer and quenching in one go, the body of the hammer is soft while the peen and face are hard, not jarring your wrists over time. i've been smithing and farming for 25 years and have been to the surgeon to put me back together many times.

This was a great video. I like that it was long enough to really show the steps well with text to explain everything. Some of the music was a little annoying. I would have preferred no music and a voice over explaining the process. I liked hearing the sounds of the hammers.
