You provided the perfect amount of detail and explanation so as to allow me to follow along and do everything you describe, while also understanding the why of what is being done. I wish I had watched this prior to using Kindle Create. My book is very film script like with dialog and action instruction in addition to paragraphs. I determined it is faster to continue to edit almost each line in Create rather than start over. I don't make that mistake again. Thank you very much for your excellent video.

I have about 70 short (8-10K) e-books out on KINDLE using your method! Thank you! Now, I type my complete book in draft view, and use Calibri Bold for everything. Heading 1 for Chapter Titles (I just number chapters usually). I can go from finished draft to published e-book in less than 5 minutes! I like how I can catch extra spaces and paragraph spaces in Draft view. Now, I'm putting some of my e-book bundles into paperback format. For covers, I use CANVA PRO.

Thanks for sharing.g8 layout. I actually was able to see what was missing from my book. The template did not open on my computer so i used it in goggle doc where it lost much of the formating but it wsa still very helpful.

Naomi: Thanks for this very detailed video on how to format an e-book for Kindle. Question 1: Re font size. Is the desirable font size 10, 12, something else? I've read about both. Question 2: Mine is a textbook allowing spaces for answers to exercises included within each section. Is Kindle interactive to this extent? Any advice here? If you provide answers to either or both questions in a separate tutorial, please advise. Thank you. I'm an 86 year old lady and this is certainly a lot easier than schlepping around those stone tablets I've been used to in the past. :)
Hi! I usually use 10 or 10.5 for my font size-the readers will be able to set their font on their Kindle to one that is comfortable and accessible to them. As for your second question, traditional Kindles are not that interactive, but the new Kindle Scribes are. So that means anyone who buys your book and has the new Kindle would be able to use the interactive parts. Also, if they are reading your book on another device, like a tablet, they may be able to to use the interactive parts. For anyone else, they can probably use pen and paper and take notes :)

Hi, You did great job explaining how to format your WORD document. How do you handle footnotes and endnotes? From what I understand Kindle will automatically convert footnotes to endnotes, but what if I want only footnotes? Thanks
I am so sorry for the late reply here; I didn't see your comment right away. Kindle does convert your footnotes to endnotes, and there's really no way around that. But you can resolve the issue by placing links to your footnotes and back again (so, place a link within your text that will bring the reader to the correct endnote when they want to see it, then place a link within the endnote that brings them back to the original reference point when they are done). This way, a reader can view the endnotes within context as if they were footnotes without getting lost or having to scroll through a whole bunch of pages to get back to where they were.
I'm just beginning trying to create an epub. I see you cannot use Dingbats. Is thi correct? Can I have headlines in color? I'm trying to make my pages more interesting.
Unfortunately, this is one of the few things that will work on MS Word but not work on Google Docs. Google Docs does have some styles built into it, but you can't modify them to your liking. And as you go through the publishing process, you would need to download and convert your Google Doc to Microsoft Word before uploading to Amazon's KDP for publishing. Unfortunately, that means grabbing code from Google Doc that you would need to clean up. If you are writing your book in Google Docs (which I often do for clients), I would compile it all together after the 2nd or 3rd round of edits and move it to MS Word at that point for the last round(s) of edits. There will also be the added benefit that the change will help you spot any typos that you might miss in your initial rounds of editing. Thank you for watching!
@@Drostvideo Ah! I see. I am planning another video on formatting for Kindle from Google Docs; but essentially, what you will want to do is format your book using the provided styles, set up your table of contents, and then export the file as a PDF (File > Print > Save as PDF). :)
Great question! To insert endnotes, you have to start by inserting foot notes. In your main body content, place the cursor where you want the footnote link to appear. At the top of the window, in the References menu, click Insert Footnote. The cursor will jump to the footnote section at the bottom of the page. Enter your footnote text here. When you upload your book to KDP, your footnotes will be converted to endnotes automatically.
What if your manuscript has line & paragraph spacing set as double because of how clean it can be read and you want the same to transfer to an ebook (as well as keeping the page count the same)?

"Paste and Match Formatting" is not an option in my version of Word in my Windows 10 laptop so that's very frustrating. Took an hour of research to work out that issue. But all the rest of what you suggest is doable. I have a 157 page document and I'm guessing this will take about 5 hours. which usually works out to double my prediction. 😞

I got a plr book I edit it change the title and the cover add images uploaded it on Amazon the book was still blocked. Plz what else do I hve to include on the edited book to get my book approval
This is hard because Amazon has a strict policy that doesn't allow PLR books to be sold via their publishing platform, even editing it isn't usually enough to make it a unique book. I would give the book a good read and then think about what you can add to make the book unique from anyone else who grabbed the same PLR, and write 2-3 more chapter to supplement the book with your own perspective that way; try that and see if Amazon allows it.
Hi! Kindle doesn't use pages, so page size doesn't really matter here. Just make sure your purposeful breaks, like for chapters, are set up correctly and you should be fine.
Hi! I'm sorry... I am not an illustrator so I am not good with that. If I needed illustrations, then I would budget and hire an illustrator for help in that area.
Once upon a time the answer was two - this is leftover from the days of the typewriter when you couldn't really tell when one sentence ended and another one started. Now the standard is one space unless writing something in a monospace font (such as most legal documents and medical documents). It takes some time to unlearn the two space rule, but it can be done. :)
that is what some pros say always, now I did run the sides through an simple editor, and copied it back in a new word page. Thank You. I´ve got Jutoh, but there is not enough explication in our language, perh. for later. So I could try to bring that up to amazon kindle.
