Would those relief cuts not lead to rapid wood splitting and cracking from moisture getting into all those cuts and then drying out?
@ethanthurman5202
@ethanthurman5202 Год назад
I think sealing those in with a glue or some type of sealer to keep it from holding moisture and rotting would be a good idea.

That's called kerf bending, for anyone who cares.

your rim should have been a para lam or a double 3/4 tention scored pressure treated plywood with galvanized ring shanks .then shaped anything out with a flap disc for the radius part of the rim one more tip the top or apex of your arch to the spring should be snapped out and the halfway point marked at that point 90 degree back to the center line will give you the perfect three point arch everytime .its advanced geometry unlike my ex girlfriend math never lies

Would you or anyone suggest filling the relief cuts with a filler like epoxy or Bondo body or wood filler? My thinking on this is to re-encapsulate the piece to guard against moisture and ice damage.

yes, a waterproof tape or paint will work well

Slicing the rim seems to work alright. I like how it all turned out, but you could also laminate many layers of thin plywood correct?

Alright I’m a newbie at this... but after making all the kerf cuts, can you still attach there when placing deck boards? What if the screw goes right through one of them? Thanks!
@coversanddecks
@coversanddecks 4 года назад
Once the rim is curved and nailed in, the relief cuts become tight. We had no problems with the deck screws. Good question, thanks for watching and hope this helps

I can’t seem to find a straight answer about building a ground level deck (technically floating I guess because not sitting on the ground but near). I was looking if you had a video on it...

@@jbj77 what do you need to know about a ground level deck?
@jbj77
@jbj77 4 года назад
The Deck Answers thank you!! If I’m making it even with my cement walkway, the frame goes into the lawn. How am I supposed to leave anything open for air?! It’s literally the yard around the deck. Should I just dig out more dirt inside the frame to make it all lower??

What does he mean when he says he has a one foot two inch spring?

Waylon Graves Moving the spring moves the centerpoint of the circle up farther.

@@coversanddecks So am i correct to assume that the point in doing so is to extend the deck out further, or is there some other reason i dont know of?
