Well done. One of these days I'm gonna do a notch on my wagon. In the drive way with a grinder/ cutoff blade and a 110v mig will be a bit tougher than the job you did. Wish you were colse to New Orleans I would sub out some work to you for sure!!!

Perfect I'm about to do this to my 79 coupe "devillen" I've been hesitant because of thinning the frame but the inner support is all I needed to see and I'm originally a lowrider guy so a plate on the inside of the frame makes sense too. The only thing I'll do different is drill holes in both rear cross members and slide the connector bars inside and weld them.

Good video, I always just use the factory piece that I cut out . I try to cut 1" out of center but try to leave just a little bit of the round edge on top and bottom of frame and over lap the pieces. I think it's a little stronger and you don't have to buy nothing.

does the cross support you welded in negatively affect handling for non drag application? like if I want to do a mild pro tourer?

I have an 85 El Camino with a 10 inch rear rim that fits no problem with no frame notch, I want to get a 12 inch rear rim in there is that possible with a frame notch, I know Umi carries this frame notch kit I have full Umi suspension on the car now.

What did you use to hold the back of the frame up so the rear quarters don't buckle

Here’s a dumb question. If I notch my GBody 1” on both side obviously. Can I shorten up my rear end by 1” on both sides in order to get a deep dish rim installed. Any opinion.

When you were cutting that out I thought it would weaken it considerably and how you were going to compensate! We have to give to get when Hot Rodding! Good Common Sense goes a long way

How long did it take you to knockout the frame

did mine the same with 1 5/8 tubing & the bars running up to where the upper controls mount are pretty close to my upper tubular control arms bout an inch away with full tank & car lowered . i hear them hit here and there while driving . took it to the drag strip did fine but will it affect it being limited to transfer weight back when launching? i’m thinking i can notch them for more clearance

Would you say that’s an 8-10 hour job? I mainly do Jeeps, but I have a customer with a Monte Carlo who wants a quote to do the job.

He might want to add a shock tower brace frm UMI for more support with that notch if he hasn't already

Hey Jeff, been following you RU-vid channel for a while. I’ve got a 87 Monte Carlo SS, and I’m trying to fit a 20x10.5 315/30/20 under the back. With a 1inch spacer, we’re just a little off (maybe 1inch). Do you think a frame notch would do the trick or is this mini tub time?

Great breakdown. Did you find the kit kind of pointless? I have the raw steel here to do this, and I was thinking of cutting out the piece, tracing the piece that comes out and cut it to fit. It seems pointless to buy the kit since you're already doing that anyway. Thoughts?

Think could you make a anti-roll bar with that attaches to that cross bar you welded across frame maybe attach coil over mounts to it too sell it as a kit
