How to Frame Perler Beads

Heya, Pixel Peeps! Today, we’re going from beads to frames!
One day, I was hanging out with a nephew of mine and I showed off a framed Perler Bead creation I made for my partner as a birthday gift, so he said, “Uncle Razz, could you make me one too?” The problem was that he is one of four siblings, so instead of making one, I made four.
They’re all super into Mario, and I may or may not have gotten them addicted to Perler Beading themselves. (Whoops!)
So I figured I would make Perler Bead Mario in different costumes with different backdrops.
It’s a lot easier than I thought it would be, so I hope you feel like you can do something like this too! If you need help, please leave comments!
By the time you finish the video, you should be able to hang or place your framed Perler Beads wherever you’d like! Thanks for HANGING around!

If you were to frame something out of Perler Beads, what would you make? Video game characters? Anime characters? Maybe even a VTuber?

Really cool idea. At first I thought it might be tacky to have just the key sprite on a flat backdrop instead of making a giant slab of a creation to put in the frame. I can see how how cool it is to have some depth in the image though. Thanks for fueling my creativity!

Great video man. Ty. Could you drop a link to the websites you used to buy the frames and find the backgrounds?

Thanks! For the backgrounds, I used sprites from www.spriters-resource.com/ For the frames, I think I was out at a Home Goods store. I think it might be a regional place though? Marshall’s and Michael’s might be good spots too I think! I hope that helps.

This video has been inspirational! I tend to make digital art for my own personal use or for online friends and commissioners, but the step by step guides you've provided here and on your 'How to get started' Perler videos have got me wanting to try my hand at this. I can see how I could possibly use this method to make some cost-effective presents for friends and family. The only hitch is my lack of a printer though, but I'll see if a friend has one or I could even see about making a Perler background as well. I do still have a bunch of old photo paper from my old printer I could use. Might prevent any paper creasing and give the background a longer shelf life.

Super cool! I’m glad you found this helpful. If you’re looking for a printer, maybe a local library might be able to fit your needs? But your idea for the old photo paper sounds great!

@@BigBossRazz Could you possibly recommend me a Perler bead brand? I bought the wrong kind of beads and peg board, the board being too big and the beads being way too small.

@@tonts5329 Heya, I use the Perler Bead brand beads and pegboards. They also have mini beads with a mini pegboard. Do you know what brands of beads/boards you got and what size of beads/board you have?

@@BigBossRazz I think my comment got deleted for linking to the EBay pages I purchased them from. =/ The Boards are: 4PCS ABC Clear 145x145mm Square Large Pegboards Board for Hama Fuse Perler Bead The Perler Beads are: For Hama Beads Kit Kids 24 Colors 13000PCS 2.6mm DIY Craft Set Toys Gift Looking at the names I can see I clearly bought the wrong Perler bead size. >.

Thanks! So I made the Pixel Art using Aseprite and then rigged it in Live2D Cubism. From there, I used VTube Studio to track my face. Let me know if you have any questions on any of those!

@adamcosmin4604 Yeah! I’ve modified some existing Stardew Valley and Terraria cat sprites to make a design that looks like one of my cats and ironed those. You can find one of them in my Perler Recap 2022 video if you wanted to see it, or you could join the discord and I can share a picture there! 😎

How would you do this if it’s a portrait that’s all beads
@BigBossRazz
@BigBossRazz Год назад
That’s a good question… there might be a few ways. My suggestion would be possibly gluing the entire Perler piece to a thin cardboard back and then framing that? If there’s a glass/plastic covering, hopefully it’ll keep it in place too. I hope that helps!
@legomark5712
@legomark5712 Год назад
Thanks I’ll try that when I finish it then I’ll have to measure it and get a frame

How would you frame a giant perler portrait of 35 panels that are 29x29 pins each?
@BigBossRazz
@BigBossRazz 2 года назад
Hmm… you mean 35 panels altogether? Because if so that seems MASSIVE and, therefore, ya might need a gigantic frame lol
@BigBossRazz
@BigBossRazz 2 года назад
I would also recommend using some sort of adhesive that would stick the back of the pieces, connecting them to one another. Maybe after connecting each of them, making a boarder frame instead of finding a massive frame lol.
@PikaLink91
@PikaLink91 2 года назад
@@BigBossRazz Yeah I kinda bit off more than I could chew with this one. It has taken me little over 2 weeks to finish, and I didn't really stop to consider where I would even put it afterwards xD What do you mean, sticking them together on the back? And what's the difference between a boarder frame and a massive frame?
@BigBossRazz
@BigBossRazz 2 года назад
@@PikaLink91 So let’s say you have four squares of 29x29 to start. I’m thinking if you’re not going to iron the back together to fuse it too much, using some sort of longer pieces of tape to connect them and keep them still in the frame. So you would use tape to connect the top left square to the right, one to the bottom, and one diagonally to secure them. You know how in the video the frames have backs? That’s what I’m thinking when it comes to a massive frame. Like going to a frame store and just buying something huge. Otherwise, if you don’t need a back and don’t want to buy a frame, maybe considering grabbing some nice wood if you have access to it and gluing that to the edges of your final piece. I hope that makes sense! You could also just get chunks of cardboard and make your own back if you need to. If you want to share pictures and get some feedback from other folks, feel free to join the Discord server! I have a link in the description I think.

I realize this may be a little late and you may have solved your problem by now, but I used to be a professional fine art framer. Depending on how easy the finished piece is to transport, you can take it to any major craft store and get a frame custom sized for your art, and the staff there will take care of the actual framing (including putting hanging hardware on the back). If it's difficult to transport but you still need a custom sized frame, you can take the measurements to the framers and they can still make you a frame, but you'd have to put the piece in yourself. Getting something framed like this can generally be a but pricey, but you get to pick your frame and any other chosen components from hundreds of styles and colors, and it will fit your exact needs. On the other hand, it the piece is small enough to fit in a "standard sized" frame (one that you can buy off the shelf), you can have the framers fit it into one of those frames of your choice. If it's not the exact same size, they can use matboard to get an exact fit. This method is much less expensive, but not as customizable. And it will only work if your piece is 27 inches by 40 inches or smaller. Hope this helps you or anyone else looking to solve a similar problem:)
