Very helpful. I couldn’t help but notice one low hanging fruit here, but… the quickest and easiest way to build that model after you deleated it is to simply hit the “undo” keyboard shortcut 😎👍

We're in 2023. Is there not a software that has pre-existing lumber mock ups? Also, there should be an auto function that allows the software to recommend structual design. This is crazy.
@CWebbTutorials
@CWebbTutorials 7 месяцев назад
You can save components and reuse them with a click of a button. I don’t know what you mean by “recommend structural design” but there are very sophisticated softwares out there. This one happens to be easy to use and free.

I love your videos as this is only day 2 with sketch-up for me. I am on a pc. I do not see the unique option on mine, nor can I seem to push a stud down from the top plate. It wants to pull out the side but not push down the stud to jack stud height... very frustrating

Yes, this would be done with a tool called Layout. It's only available in the Pro version of Sketchup. Here's a video showing the process: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4tiuuTJwGRk.htmlsi=vYrBeYSgH-l1Ieeg

Absolutely amazing tutorial. Simple and to the point. You have a gift. I am in need of assistance. I want to build a 2 story shop/office space inside a metal building. I have a 30x60x18 metal building and want to build a 30x20x18 shop/office inside. Would you be available for hire?

Excellent job on this one. However the task of creating walls gets more complex as you start adding windows and doors and then your client wants to move or resize those openings in the wall. Using just SketchUp and it’s native tools can get very tedious as you would then need to remodel a bunch of the geometry. That is why I would strongly suggest using an extension to draw walls, you get the flexibility of SketchUp but you also get the parametric or editing ability which makes things so much more efficient.

How to change rect dimension after the rect has been drawn already?
@jrbauer01
@jrbauer01 8 месяцев назад
Someone may have already said this, but in Windows, you do not use “Alt” to make a copy, you would use “Ctrl”. Took me awhile to figure out why I couldn’t copy that stud! Otherwise, good tutorial
@kevintakalo427
@kevintakalo427 4 месяца назад
its ctrl to move a copy of a stud over on my windows 10 laptop. took me awhile to finally figure that out. alt does some other function. at the bottom of the screen in sketchup. it says what alt and ctrl are doing.

Yes I’m on a Mac, had this wrong and corrected in the description. CTRL is the right key on Windows

Nice job explaining, however how come you did not make the slab a group instead of a component. I be looking for your next video. Thank you for sharing.
@jimbonelly1

just curious? why would you want to make it a group?
@PlusSpec
@PlusSpec Год назад
A great video for learning the basics of Sketchup @structuredesign. We built a plugin that automates all of what you did in the video and, it enables you to adjust slab and footing thickness. With framed walls you can parmatrically create and edit all wood framing, including junctions, top/ribbon plates, headers & sills etc infinite times in just 2 clicks. After the wall is drawn you can also add or delete doors & Windows after the wall is drawn. Reach out if you would like to see it. Again great work, keep them coming.

It's crazy that they don't have pre made boards that you can just rotate and configure any way you please. No reason we should have to make and paint them one by one.
@CWebbTutorials
@CWebbTutorials 7 месяцев назад
You don’t have to make and paint them one by one, you only have to make one. You can not only copy it, but you can also save it as a component and always use it from your component list with the click of a button.

Perfect. Lots of fun. I hope there is an addon that does a materials count. Say how many 2x4x8 footers are needed including all the other stuff that this tutorial doesnt cover like window and door material.
