This is a very detailed video on how to perform a fuel tank tuck on all Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ. I'll show you all the differences from the early 99-01 and the late models 02-04 and will cover different ways to perform this tuck.
This is also a great video on how to remove the bumper cover and how to lower the gas tank.

Another excellent video. I had planned on this for awhile and after cutting the floor out to change the pump it has been moved to further up the list. Unlike Nevada in Michigan I have snow and cold coming soon so it has to wait until spring, my garage is dedicated to my Harley.. One of the biggest reasons for me is to stop dragging it on the ground in the woods. No rocks here but plenty of tight trails and mud bogs, that tank is like an anchor trying to back out of a mud hole, ask me how I know... Moving to AZ soon, looking forward to a totally different type of wheeling, lived out there in the 80's and had a 79 Toyota 4x4 p/u. Took that thing everywhere.

Had this on my list to do with the other rear end projects, bumper spare tire carrier, and raise the tank, the well was useless space for me as the 33"x 10" wont fit in it and trying to custom fit stuff to the space is less useful than raising the tank, now i know what to expect. just have to figure out how to relocate that evap system so i can tuck up the bumper better. Nice work on all your stuff Martin, keep up the good work. BTW i did the hydraulic fan delete as well, just a bit different, running 3 electric fans on mine, one full size hemi v8 electric pulling inside and two 10" behind the grill pushing, don't need to run either of the 10's unless i'm crawling at 110 deg + outside.

Thank you, Allen, Glad you enjoyed the video. The 3rd brake light is a LED stripe that can be purchased in 5 meter length and then cut. Hooked it to the brake light on the right side.What is the problem with the transmission dip stick, I haven't heard of any problem with that.

@@martinbuilt I might get around to doing that!! how much weight did you shed from vehicle all sad & done. 200 lbs
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 2 года назад
I kind of doubt I shed too much weight at all because once you add the 14 gauge plate that adds some weight back you could use the light duty skid plate over the heavy duty one that would shed quite a bit as much as 25 pounds. I have considered building a new skip plate with the light duty one to reduce weight. If I was using for off road use I would definitely use the heavy duty skip plate.

Martin your putting these Chrysler Engineers to Shame. So to give you a place for a Spare Tire they Drop the Fuel Tank to a location that looks about as unsafe as you can get. Chrysler should have Tucked the Tank and gave a small donut mounted like they did in the 2000 XJ. Or do what they do now Delete the Spare Tire. All they did was leave themselves open to some serious Law Suits. Then the access Door to get at the Fuel Pump is something all Auto Makers should be doing. What a Nightmare Job just to replace the Fuel Pump.
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 4 года назад
thank you, Charles, yes they should have known and probably did. Many auto makers now have the access panel under the back seat.

Yes, an engineer. I asked a lot of mechanics on RU-vid to help me solve the faults in my 2004 Grand Cherokee. Which my brother gave me from the United States of America. In fact, I told him at the beginning not to buy me a jeep The reason is that it is a car that is not widespread with us, and its agent demands very high prices in the price of spare parts and does not provide them completely, and the company is a Jeep company, a company that does not care about the future of its cars in our country, the Republic of Yemen, located south of Saudi Arabia. What is important, my brother bought it, and when I saw it, it was a beautiful car, we customs it and took it out of the enamel at the end of 2012, and when my brother drove by it, he was amazed that it was very slow and heavy to walk and said its money was fast. I took the car from it and used it to this day. I discovered that it had faults as a result of faults and that it was considered a higher conversation, as I had Japanese cars that had no computers or sensors, and I could not understand them and I thought that I would overcome their faults by finding alternatives to their parts, but I knew the work of computers and sensors and their connection to each other makes it very difficult to compose alternative parts I will continue .. One of the most important faults is its fuel dispensing in a very large way, in 100 kilometers it spends 20 liters The second malfunction was the gasoline vapor, which was causing the gasoline odor to spread inside the cabin Other holidays are very slow torque The third malfunction turns off its engine for a few seconds while it is walking Just seconds. The fourth malfunction is the smuggling of hot gases from the engine to the radiator, as a result of the fans stopping, so the engine overheated badly before The important thing is now, I want to know how to make the parts of the evaporation system generously, how I can discover the faults in it and how to install them correctly. The truth is that the company is trivial in many matters For example, when the fans have stopped, there is no substitute for their work. If you are not careful, do not realize that the fans have stopped until the head of the engine has been struck. Gasoline vapor has many confusing parts and is tight for maintenance Likewise, the gasoline pump needs to be removed from the tank Fuel filtering is complicated and not the same as other cars, so it is not available or available and is very expensive. There are no benzene pellets The plexus and its strings do not dissolve easily The raw materials for the pipes inside the engine are very poor Harden and crack. The car has plastic bumpers and there are no towing hooks to drag anything The headlights are difficult to weigh, and the color of the glass becomes opaque There are a lot of ridiculous things these companies do not want their cars to spread so they leave matters to their greedy agent. Imagine the price of headlamps or headlights and taillights sells them for 1150 dollars, while in America they are all for 250 dollars Many talk, thank you for your patience With you was Muhammad Ahmad Al-Danoun from YemenImportant faults followed.

I like your work very much I would love to do this like you I probably will not be going off road very much nowhere much to go where I live but I still lifted my WJ 2" with springs and put some Wrangler 18" wheels with BFGs and its nice to now that I could go off road if I wanted to. I am going off subject I thought about doing this much like you did a 4" tuck another Idea I had was to make a lockable gun case not many people would think to look in there for hunting guns as I got new BFGs they are strong so probably get away with no spare wheel got a can of that air stuff as a backup.

wondering if u tried just a) flipping the spare cut out 180deg matching the factory bead rolls, b) just cutting 4 (or whatever) in from the spare cut out depth and putting back in?

I have a 2002 and when I read about this after I got my Jeep I was really disappointed how Jeep handled this whole situation. Their only fix was to add a tow hitch after market. And I don't see how that adds much protection. If you can do this, my question is why didn't Jeep recall these years and fix it? I know, "money" - but, what about Jeeps' integrity? Outside of this issue, I absolutely love my Laredo. Not the gas mileage though. LOL!
