I am known to be very hard on myself in games. I always tell myself, “Why can’t I just be good at something.” One way that helps me climb out of the deep hole I dug is by getting excited over a small, good thing I did (ex: a good pass). Because sometimes when I get down on myself I tend to not feel happy when I succeed, I think about one mistake I made.
I know its a really late reply But I Get that to so when you get that idea just say u can and just dont think abt anything after and if u can just keep on blocking them out with a song and you could cheer on your other team
My favortie tip was the one where I dont focus on just how well I can do something but we focus on what we can do to make our teammates better, I like it because its taking more pressure off myself and other people are benefiting too. This was SOOOO helpfull, and im gonna try all of these. Thanks vic!!!!
So I’m a freshman, and tomorrow is my first time playing in a game w JV(I was moved up). I’m suuuppperrr nervous, but this helped a lot!! Thanks Vic! (I’ll be wearing my real post hoodie tomorrow for luck😉)
Hi Victoria. I saw you speak at Gemfest and flew in because I really wanted to be there to see you speak. I really wanted to say thank you for helping me accept others and myself and gain confidence!
This video really helped me. I'm currently in 9th grade, almost the end of the year, but in the beginning of the year was volleyball season. I didn't really know much about volleyball but i've always admired the sport. Long story short, I didn't make the team. But i'm a very determined person, so for the past school year, i've been practicing a lot. I joined a volleyball club outside of school and i consider myself a decent volleyball player. Since the school year's almost coming to an end, and then there'd be two months till tryouts again, I started getting nervous. Like for this entire year I kept practicing and practicing but what if i lose to the nerves. Like if i walk into the tryout and i'm like "if i don't get in, then this whole year has been for nothing". Then I started watching motivational videos on youtube, and your videos especially really helped me to calm my nerves. I started listening to your podcast too, which I know isn't entirely about volleyball but it really helps me. You're an awesome person, keep up the good work. :)
Can you do one on how to recover from mistakes? I can get very down on my self, not realy in a game but i do it alot in practice because i cant get somthing right
I'm nor Victoria, but I struggled with this so much, I would want to cry whenever I would make a mistake. Now I try to remember any mistakes that my teammates made and I couldn't remember any, also it's just one point so I shrug it off. My teammates sometimes get annoyed at me and I do with them, but at the end of the day one mistake isn't going to change the trajectory of my entire career. Wow that was long
Our club is starting again and because of corona my family doesn't know if I should play if we're barely going to have a season so what should I do, I still want to play but I don't know if it's going to be worth it. Love you so much
if i were you, i would play! you will have good connections with your teammates and it will be a good experience. even if you don't get to play too much, it's better than doing nothing!
Yeah, I would definitely play. Now I know club is very expensive but if you really love the sport, I think you should play! The more practice and reps in the better you will get! So, I would say yes. But that is really your decision! So if you do decide to play, good luck!
I'm currently playing with my team in Denmark. We sanitize our hands before entering the hall and also after any drink break we have during training. We also sanitize all balls and poles/net before and after each training so it's clean. We have been playing since August and none of us has gotten sick. I know it might be different because Denmark does not have as many cases as many other countries but I think you can be safe while playing. When we play matches we also don't shake hands we just wave across the court to the other team. For the warm-up, each team use separate balls, and also the ball is sanitized between each set in the match. It should be safe if everyone takes care of themself (not come if they are a little sick) and keeps a distance to others (Team members and the other team) :-)
I've been playing volleyball for only a little over a year, and I worked hard enough at it to feel confident doing club. The thing is that I'm a senior, which I realize now is quite a tough year for a first in club. With all that being said, this vid was great and I knew I could count on Victoria for something like this to help me out :)
Well, I actually play soccer, but I also really like to play volleyball and I don't know exactly which sport to choose. Both are a lot of fun and thanks to your videos I learned a lot of stuff about volleyball. So thanks to you I have an important game tomorrow and I'll try all these tips to see if I can get rid of my self-doubts
Perfect video just before I have a clinic. Sadly due to Corona effects on buisness my club is closing down however those who would've made teams or on on teams will still be coached while they have the building then when the building is gone they are gonna rent out a place for a few hours to practice and I'm so happy that we dont lose everything it would've been my first season there and I've been improving alot so ots bittersweet this week which is when it closes on sunday. Thanks for posting this video cause I've always struggled with confidence and had bad anxiety so thank you so much for being the volleyball role model I look up to.
i'm in 8th grade and this year's szn is alrdy over for me so highschool would be my first time i have volleyball tryouts, i'm a little scared but i always watch victoria to help me😁
My daughter NEEDS this right now. My daughter is on a 14s travel team, but they are in the "team selection" process. Unfortunately, our club has a lot of politics (I know all clubs suffer from this) and my daughter seems to get overlooked. This will help her to do her best during the selection process and realize that no matter what happens, not everything is in her control. Just be one with that court and continue to love the game. No matter where she ends up. Thank You, Victoria!! We love your videos!!
I agree with the Lil Wayne music for intense warmup! My go-to for that is A Milli by him, and it is a little explicit as well. It’s great though, and it makes you feel like the baddest person ever whenever you walk into a room! 😎
Tips #6 and #7 really helped me a lot actually. Tip 6 reminded me that when i'm not thinking about my performance or what people are going to say about me when I make mistake I am a lot less nervous or I have lot less anxiety. It's also a great way to pump up your teammates on the court! I know I always love when people tell me "wow that was a great dig," or "Thanks for saving me from that block!" And tip 7 reminded me to be thankful for what I have. I'm grateful that I can get the new shoes I want, or I can get the new Molten that I really like. Sometimes we forget that what we have, others might not. So thanks for these tips because I definitely get stressed or anxious when I am on the court, it doesn't matter if it's a game, tryouts, or practice!
I have a game tomorrow and it’s my last game at the school I am going to before I move on to high school volleyball. This video helped me calm down so much, and I will be watching it again tomorrow before the game. Thank you so much for making this video Vic!!!!!!
thank u so much for taking the time to make this video!! i get really anxious before tournaments and games and this video helped me remember the basic things, and to be grateful and my love for the sport!
Thank you soooooo much Victoria! I’ve been watching your videos since quarantine started in between practicing volleyball at my house and at my local sports center. I really needed this video. I go to a really competitive school and tryouts can be a little biased. But I’ve been working on my skills nonstop for months, I know that I am a good volleyball player but I lack confidence and get nervous! Anyway Thanks keep up the great quality content!!!!💕🏐
I just had a volleyball game and we lost pretty bad but that’s only because we all get our spirts down as soon as we lose a point. Our coach was even telling us to keep our head up, and to just forget about that point. One of our main problems is getting all down in the dumps after one lost point so I’m going to send this video to my whole team, to see that hopefully this video helps!
It's kind of the same as number 6, but I love to think of how I can help my teammates best like how can I as a libero help the setter and the hitters and everyone. I think it so important to not think you have to do it for you, your stats and everything, but you do it for others and when I do well then it makes me so much more happy!
clicked on this so fast cause u inspire me so much I was waiting for you to post a thing on insta about video reccomendatins so I could reccomendatins this. I have been struggling with performance anxiety a lot lately. I'm in the middle of my high school season as a freshman I ended of making varsity I was not prepared for how much pressure would be put on me. compared to club I feel so overwhelmed and like I don't love the sport I once did
thanks for your tips... I have very low self-confidence due to a bad experience had when I played volleyball in high school... In the beginning, I thought that this video was just "theoretical" but when I also watched your speech at TEDx I realized that it's not just a theory but it's coming from a person who had to fight... thank you
Someone told me “You suck stop trying, ur never gonna make the team” when I was 6th grade. Now as a Sophmore I really wish I could tell younger me, it’s going to be okay. Because now I’m even better then the person who said that to me.
Honestly this video is my motivational video, just thinking about all these things make me feel so much powerful! thank you so much, I'm training and looking forward a club, I'm from Argentina and we're still on quarentine, :c haven't played for like 7-8 months
Hi Miss Victoria! Thank you for these - I havent been improving a lot these past few weeks and I felt that it had something to do with my confidence bcos even my coach would say that I look stiff/nervous while playing. I'll keep these in mine, I want to be a libero js like you. Thank uuu!
Hey, I love your videos. You are an amazing person and my biggest idol! I want to start volleyboll but I dont know witch position I should have. Please help! And never stop being the amazing person that you truly are❤
Loved this so so so much!!! I’ve watched your podcast about performance confidence, and all of your vids are always sooo helpful!!! Thank you for everything you do, please never stop!! Love u!!
Thank you soo much for this video Victoria. I really need this. Today I had a game and my shoe came off and it was really embarrassing, it cost us a point. But don't worry, we won that game. But thank you so so so much for this video. It really helps!!!!!
Great video!!! For me the last one was the most interesting advice that I definitely want to try out :) Keep going, the feedback speaks for itself 😍. Greetings from Germany
Hey, I am going to tell my experience with a game. One day I was in a game not a good team like it was mid. So I started as a setter and I was not at my best but it was ok. 2 set comes they put another setter and I started playing as a outside hitter and I didint hit not a single ball we lost btw. Next game we played against that team and we won 25/15 What I am trying to say is that don’t let a bad day let you down you can do it if you control your mind . You can do it❤
try to 1st ask them if something is going on in their personal life, then tell them you are there for them. make sure you are giving them positive encouragement and feedback & not saying anything to make them react negatively. at the end of the day, you can only influence your teammates behavior & actions, not control them, so if you are being a good teammate and they are still being difficult, just shake it off and make the best of a bad situation. unless it gets especially difficult and is detrimental to the success of the team, then maybe consult your coach. xx
