That lick sounds so cool! I'm stealing this! For those who didn't know.. This is the Free-Way 10-way 5B5-01, which splits the whole SSS range all in the same row, with the split humbucker in position 1 and the full humbucker is in position 6. There is also the Free-Way 5B5-02, which keeps more of an original HSS setup, keeping the full humbucker in position 1. The split humbucker is in position 6. Some of the other combinations are different too. I personnally use the 5B5-02, since I rarely use a split bridge humbucker alone (I like to jump from Neck S to Bridge H). One thing to mention though.. it's very important to add one 470K to 560K resistor on each single coil and on the split humbucker in order to balance the tone by making them see 250K instead of 500K. Only the full humbucker should see 500K. This 1$ hack makes all the difference in the world. That's how you make your HSS sound like a Strat!
This is the best guitar demo I've ever seen. I've seen more complicated guitars, but your demo is the clearest. I wish all guitar demos were like yours.
Writing this for myself, to make it easier for me to compare... 0:06 Neck 0:19 Neck Middle Series 0:32 Neck Bridge Parallel 0:44 Neck Middle Parallel 0:57 Middle 1:08 Neck Bridge Series 1:21 All Three Parallel 1:33 Middle Bridge Parallel 1:47 Bridge
Great demo of this pickup switch! That's a really nice variety of tones. I have strat with the same pickup combination (HSS). I'm totally getting one of these for it!
Just got one of these for my strat….it’s the greatest mod ever. And all of the 5 additional sounds are absolutely usable. I basically have a tele, Strat, and dual humbucker all in one! Highly recommend!
These also work great on dual humbucker guitars -- there are numerous options for how to wire them. I put one on my Schecter and it's amazing. In addition to the normal 3 combinations (bridge, neck, both in parallel/in phase) I added both in series/in phase, both in series/out of phase, and both in parallel/out of phase. There are instructions on the various ways to wire it. I found on StewMac, but may be available elsewhere. I plan to put on on the HarleyBenton GuitarBass (Bass VI) I'm on the verge of buying.
@@funkyman_guitar these pickups sound pretty good! I never heard of Kloppmann before, I'm gonna check them out. Thank you for the video! I'm looking into getting a FreeWay switch. IMO 9 of the 10 tones are great.
Great upgrade; very usable. Question: where can I by these Strat pot knobs (without the printing Volume and Tone) ? Love to have them on my Strat. Thanks !
What have I learned... if you have audio a pre-set similar to Polyphia you will sound great as long as you use any single coil or combination in parallel
