So the problem with 15 minutes cities in the USA is that back in the day they built the cities kinda fucked up and now is nearly imposible to fix that?

Interacting with all this stuff in middle and high school is a big part of how I became an Anarchist. Seeing the beautiful and terrifying nature of the state, seeing how apt a descriptor "leviathan" is, and seeing the how the state limits the potential for a far more complex system of human organization to emerge, all that is what radicalized me. So many people have this idea that you can just put the right people in power and they can use the state to magically create some utopia, but you don't get to use the state, that ain't how it works. The state uses you, it consumes you, absorbs and integrates your ideologies and policies. It subtly moves you toward a role and shapes you to fill that role. For example, Liberal and Socialist orgs expend decades and decades of effort trying to push the state to do this or that, functioning either to dissipate popular pressure or channel it into the state machinery, continuing the slow movement toward minor changes.

Mentioned it in the stream, but it's worth mentioning again. Construction for things like sidewalks have impacts beyond just getting the easement. Local city planned improvements to the road and sidewalk in a popular downtown area, but due to construction delays and covid, the project took much longer than anticipated. This meant a lot of those downtown storefronts were obstructed by construction, and even though they remained open, they lost a significant amount of customers bc people just avoided the area. So much so that some of them folded. So it's not even that the aftermath of improvements can negatively impact businesses, but even just the act of construction could do it. City planning is very hard lol

Ya, semi trucks are basically the only thing tearing up the roads. We all subsidize those trucks with our gas taxes.

There’s a small channel game reviewer I watched called the Nth Reviewer who made a video outside of his normal catalog to talk about the issue with a lot of of urbanist RU-vidrs, with the biggest issue being they don’t even talk about how to fix things, they don’t tell people how to get involved in their local communities and be an active part of the process. And how something like Not Just Bikes have pushed a sort of doomerist mindset of don’t even try to get better cities in North America. It’s interesting that none of these channels ever bring up the stuff your talking about

If we really wanted the gas prices to go down they would randomly release oil from the strategic reserve. It would mess up speculators.
