It's the greatest ever word game since at least mid-2022
If you just follow these two rules, you'll get five stars every time. Without having to solve every word first. And without having to write everything down and do a bunch of complex math.
1) You can only swap two letters if both of the letters will end up being exact matches / perfectly placed
OR
2) You can only move a letter if the letter you're moving into place is the last remaining movable occurrences of that letter

This is brilliant. At first I wasn’t sure, but it works. You don’t have to solve all the words beforehand, just follow his method!

I’m going through the archives trying to apply this, and yes I’m getting more fives. Consistency requires no bad guesses about words and patterns, but aside from that, these rules seem to provide the most direct route.

To convince me, do it on a new waffle that you havent already worked out. Pretty easy when you already know the answer and two greens have already been placed ( I and O next to the top left F) with 15 remaining!

You're being tempted by letters that you know where they go... perhaps in times where one of the letters is highlighted as being in the correct row/column so you don't notice there's another of that same letter that can be moved. The only time you can move a letter that has another of the same somewhere on the page is when you only have four letters left and it's two sets of the same pair of letters.

Oh no way, that thing is a nightmare! Supposedly the same rules could be applied as what I show in this video, but there's too much going on with those for me to think ahead that far and be confident where most letters would go.

I originally bombed out on #576. I used your method to redo it, i'm pretty sure I followed the method, and I only got four stars. Big improvement, but, still, not five stars. Do you get five stars on #576?

Just tried it and got five stars. Lots of duplicate letters on this one! So for sure at some point you swapped out a letter that you knew belonged where it was going, but there was another of the same letter already able to be moved. So you ended up moving a letter that wasn't the ideal letter to get you five stars. If you feel doubtful, write down the solution on a piece of paper and try it again, this time making sure to only ever move a letter that is the only movable one left.

@@shirlk7661 It might help to imagine how these puzzles are designed. I'm sure that their first step is to find the six words that fit together to form the "waffle". Then they make 10 swaps on the letters to come up with the final puzzle we get shown each day. So our goal is to do exactly the reverse of the 10 swaps that they did. So when we're putting the "e" in a word that we know has an "e", we don't know which of the moveable "e" s they picked when they did their shuffle. If we just pick one of the "e"s at random, we have a 50/50 chance of picking a different "e" than they did when they originally jumbled things up. That's why we can't move that "e" unless it's the only moveable "e" left... OR we know that the swap will result in an exact match for both letters.
