Notes: -All the information you’ll need will be on the test, whether it’s in the passage or the little introduction brief -Before reading the passage, skim the questions to see if there’re any summary/theme questions, and take note of the vocab words -Remember to read the title/little introduction -For vocab questions, read the whole sentence, plus maybe the sentences before and after for context. Then substitute in each answer -Know what certain terms are (7:04) For two-part questions: -Look at the second part and highlight all the quotes in the passage -Then read the first question (only the question) and try to see which quote answers every part of the question -Compare the quote to the first question’s answers For the literature passage: -Try to be engaged/to have fun -Read challenging books beforehand For the debate passages: -Read the first passage and answer all the passage-1-specific questions while it’s still fresh in your mind -Repeat for passage 2 -Especially for the Science-based passages, don’t infer anything. Use the passage/graphs to back up each answer
@@thewallpaperguy4038 Do you ever put your hand under your pillow when you lay your head down and the top and bottom of your pillow gets hot (usually the bottom gets hotter)? And then you switch the sides of the pillow to where the cooler side is on the bottom touching your hand and it feels more comfortable? That's why having both sides of your pillow cool is a good thing. 👍
@@thewallpaperguy4038 when you’re hot in bed and you switch the sides of your pillow and it is cool. but sometimes that side is warm too and it makes you sad 😢 so this person is wishing for both sides to always be cool for them
there are 2 types of 1600 scorers: Those who tried really hard in prep, do really well in school, and then share people their tips and how they did it and the kid who is just really smart and did not prep and has no clue how to help people because they just. chose. the. right. answer.
The Sat reading section was like torture to me. I would get 20+ questions wrong all the time! But with alot of hard work and dedication I ended up getting a 690 on it. You can do this guys!!!
@@tsillie9555 For the reading passages read them thoroughly and really pay attention. After you finish each paragraph ask your self, "what did I just read", and recap what you read in your brain. If you do this the questions should be very easy and should take no longer tha 40 seconds each. For grammer just do ALOT of practice sections. The kind of questions aked in the grammer section often repeat them selfs from test to test. Once you know them well you will be able to identify that type of question and the best way to answer it.
I'm an SAT tutor and this taught me a few excellent tips I've never seen or thought of...especially those intimidating 2- question-evidence ones. Impressive! Thx!
Manifesting a 1560+ when I have only got 1510 twice on the practice tests lol.... Great Video! I too thought it meant UNDERMINE.. Until I searched it now... Thank you so very much!
Expecting a 1530 now I guess... Haven't found anything wrong after discussing with my friends but anyway expect the worst.... ALSO!!?! THE WORD UNDERSCORE WAS IN AN OPTION AND IT WAS THE CORRECT ONE!!! Thank God I watched this video yesterday! Thank You so very much btw!
@@annas-universe Just received a 1550! Couldn't be happier! Thank You again so very much! Your video really helped me bind up the last minute preparations. Also, did you apply ED anywhere? I just got deferred yesterday from Cornell😟. International Male for CS btw.
CONGRATS!! That's amazing :D So sorry about Cornell--that's rough. :( I'm still waiting on most of my early decision schools, but I'll be sure to make a college reaction video when the time comes
Super helpful! I’m not exaggerating if I said this one of the most valuable videos about SAT on RU-vid. Thanks a lot! Wish me luck for December’s SAT :)
My SAT is in 2 weeks and this has honestly helped a lot, im really good at the math portion but the Reading section was what was killing me. Can’t thank you enough 💛
I'm gonna take the PSAT soon so I'll try these tips. If I do well on the PSAT then I'll continue using them for the actual SAT because I'll be guaranteed to do well there. Great tips! Thank you so much! :D
@@alexis-ej9ye The tips really helped! I was confident in my answers while taking the test. I'm pretty sure I have done better with this than just doing it without any prior knowledge since this is my first time taking it.
Honestly, I am a sixth grade student, but my mom still wants me to prepare early for the SAT. At first I felt that it's impossible to have a high score (like you, of course), but after watching your video, I feel more confident. Thank you so much for this masterpiece!
IM SO MAD I JUST FOUND THIS VIDEO!! i literally took the psat today for the first time and this would’ve really helped because i definitely struggled with the time management aspect of the reading portion. i will definitely save this video and use it for my sat in the spring, thank you!
I already took my SAT two times and I am applying for college and I WISHHHH I had found this video before my exams. This video really did make it seem like such an easy test and I kind of feel dumb now looking back at how I took the test hahaha. Thank you for making this video for anyone out there who hasn't taken their test yet and needs help. You are honestly an angel for this thank you
I literally just watched this 15 minutes before my sat in the morning and watched a 1 hour math video the night before and got a 1500. Thank you so much!
Omg, I used the technique you mentioned in regards to the "Daily Double" where you recommended to circle the answer choice lines in the actual passage and it became so much easier. Definitely helped with my reading section in the December 5 SAT that I took today :) I really appreciate your channel and all your tips! TYSM
Hello, I came from Reddit, these videos which you posted are really helpful. I appreciate your efforts in sharing your strategies with your fellow SAT takers. Your videos are amazing and are straight to the point. A big thanks and cheers to you!
My SAT is in an hour and this has been on of the most helpful videos for those two part questions and just like the reading section as a whole! Thank you so much!!!
This is so helpful. It's quick enough to get through it, but detailed enough to understand. And it's not the same things I've been hearing, its new and helpful information!
You probably won’t see this but thank you so much😭😭 I’m practicing and I’ve been doing good than reading everything together and trying to figure it out later. Thank you and God bless you 💕
RU-vid really knows what to recommend for me. I just took the ACT and I’m planning on taking the SAT for a third time this March. I’m trying to get at least a 1210 for a scholarship but I also want to get a 1330. Reading is my weakness and I only do good if the passages are science or social studies. Thanks for your tips! I’m going to start practicing again today.
Interesting! I'm taking the PSAT tomorrow. My score on the SAT is currently 1510, and I'm really hoping to pull it up to perfect in 2 weeks, so this was really helpful.
i completely agree with the "reading in your free time" tip-i also wanted to add that if you're reading to prep for the SATs, it's a good idea to read a wide range of literature from a while back. collegeboard typically doesn't use a ton of contemporary literature so make sure you're familiar with the way that older authors write (e.g., dickens, twain, emerson, dumas, brontë, etc.). it's also a good idea to read some translated foreign literature (spanish, french, and immigrant authors especially) as collegeboard sometimes likes to include those passages as well!
this was so help full!!! i scored a 930 and that was so bad 😭 i’m trying to bring it up to 1100 + i take my SAT in june & that’s more than enough time to bring up points.
I like how these tips are based on experience, not just basic knowledge of how the test works. This is a video you can't really get anywhere else. It should have way more views.
I already took my SATs last year and I'm here to tell you all that you can do it!! Follow your dreams, but don't let your dreams be just dreams, make sure you work for it and don't procrastinate!
I'm a very last minute guy decided to watch this video 20 min before my exam without studying or taking a SINGLE practice exam. I don't regret the 11 minutes
Thanks so much for these videos Anna! This was incredibly helpful!! I ended up making just 3 mistakes on my reading section after watching your videos. Far higher than my diagnostic test.
I can't stress enough on the fact that you have provided the most realistic and easy-to-apply tricks among all the videos on SAT reading currently in youtube. I don't know if I'll get higher than my current 600 score in EBRW but you have definitely helped me to stress less. Exam is in 3 days. Godspeed to myself.
THANK YOU. I'm a sophomore going into Junior year. I know how quickly time flies... I remember being in 8th grade and a teacher taking us outside to reflect on life, remembered it like yesterday. He stated that we were, "right around the corner" to the real-life world. He wasn't wrong. He gave each of us a note and wrote what we wanted to improve and work on. Then right before I had realized... I became a sophomore, practically a Junior since school ends on May 24th for me and the SAT is also practically right around the corner.
Wow--time really flies! Middle school really feels like yesterday for me too. Enjoy high school while it lasts, and also look forward to the bright future ahead of you :D
ngl it'd sound generalized considering 70-80% (i think) of these comments are appreciating you. but you deserve every bit of that. people's heartstrings are strumming at an all-time high, after seeing this video lmao. but, good luck with your college, and thanks for sharing this again!!
This is by far the BEST video I’ve seen on the SAT. Can you maybe do one explaining how you studied for the test? I’m doing the Khan Academy daily exercises but besides that I’m kind of lost on how to study. Thank you so much!
I remember going to SAT bootcamp in Korea and they always mentioned, "read the blurb" or "read the question first, read the passage but dont read the answer choices!" Never really understood why they said that, and I never had a reason to because covid knocked all my exam dates off the table anyways, but here I am a year later on the end of my gap year, about to take the SAT for an ROTC scholarship. I finally get what they were saying after watching this, so BIG THANKS!!
This is probably the best SAT video I've ever seen, others just give very generic tips and some book recommendations but yours was truly helpful, thank you
Hello! I'm going to be taking my SAT in about 2 months and the reading portion has been such a bad part for me during my practice tests but these tips seem super helpful so I'll be applying them in my next study session :) im trying to get a 1530+ on my SAT so I hope with these tips my reading section will be good! Thank you :D
This came up in my recommended feed, and even though I still have two years until the SAT, it felt like a sign to start preparing. Awesome video, and I even took notes! It helped a lot with knowing what to expect! Thank you! :)
@@popcorn3707 aww thanks! i took it in my school itself, so it wasn’t hard at all. i did all the tests on cb timed and did a couple of the khan academy ones as well
I take my test 13 march. Did some practice test and used your strategies and dam it helps so much. Saved a decent amount of time and felt pretty calm on the readings. TY!
I’ve gotten 1320 on the first practice try, and I’m currently a sophomore using StudyPoint to prep for the PSAT this October 2021. Big things coming up! >:)
Read the college panda math and writing books also the Erica meltzers reading book kind of helpful.I guess ,only if we make it I have an exam in March 13 too .I am dumed to hell
You guys will both be ok! Try doing 10-20 minutes of practice each day (using Khan Academy or any other source), or ramp it up a bit if you're really nervous (but don't burn yourself out). Also practice taking a few full tests in a testing environment (timed, only short breaks between sections, etc) if you have the time--it'll really help calm your nerves on test day to have practiced that!
Last year I took the PSAT and all I did was watch your videos the night before and take a practice test. I got a 1490!! I also just got a 1590 on my SAT!! These videos are awesome! I also used the SAT Prep Black Book.
hey i just wanted to say thank you so much for this video you don’t understand how much it’s helped me. i just took the SAT today as i’m writing this. normally when i take the SAT i run out of time in the last 5-10 questions but this video genuinely helped me!! i literally finished all 52 questions to the reading and 42 to the writing 10 minutes before they both ended!!! you are a very good explainer and you deserve the world i genuinely am so grateful for you i never thought i would feel so confident in reading until this video. you are a lifesaver and you deserve the world ❤️
If I am being honest, all the tips and tricks I learned from this video are by far the best ones I have heard or have received. Thank you so much. I hope I can make good use of your tips and actually get close to what you got on my own exam.
God tier advice 👏 lmao I'm not even taking the SAT but the 9th-grade SHSAT and this helps a lot thx for making these amazing videos you saved my life!!!!
Thanks Anna! It would be really good to see a video of you doing step by step some reading passages. Slow and easy to digest. Send you a big hug from Finland ❄️😍
I'm sending big hugs back! I did a lit section walkthrough a bit ago where I go step by step through a passage (and I'm eventually going to do the other passages, too), so be sure to check that out! :D
I watched this video last night and took the SATs this morning, this video saved my ass I hope your water is refreshing and both sides of your pillow are forever cool bestie tysm
Currently waiting on my SAT score (delayed), but decided to watch some tips anyways haha. I think it was great that you mentioned bubbling in answers because it seems like something no one really mentions. For me, I like bubbling in answers after answering every passage since it allows me to reset my mind for the next passage. Of course, if I get stuck I move on to the next question or bubble in answers I am confident I am correct about. Another tip I saw that I use and hope that others use as well is that you don't need to read fast. I do my best to take my time to understand the passage rather than skimming through and hoping that I remember key information for the questions. It also helps me personally since I don't annotate and I won't need to considering I have a rough idea of where different information is to answer the questions. Of course, this boils down to how you best absorb the information. A tip if you have time before your SAT is to really understand the type of questions SAT is asking. If you're like me and prefer reading the passage thoroughly and then tackling the questions, this helps you anticipate what information to look for and eliminates the time you spend reading the questions. I still think reading the questions beforehand is a great strategy, but it doesn't work for everyone (like myself haha). Please take these tips with a grain of salt though, what works for one person may not work for another. Hopefully some people find this comment useful!
thank you anna for taking the time to make this playlist. really has helped a lot! i learned so much from your videos. aiming high for saturday's test woohooo!
Wow! These may seem like simple tips, but they are very helpful. I also found the 2 part question strategy helpful since I always get stuck on those and usually end up proving the incorrect answer with some evidence from the text. Thank you so much and have a nice future!!
I struggle with that too, but I think it helps to almost read the passages out loud (like, use the same cadence you would if you were reading it to someone else, but try to do it in your head or whisper REALLY quietly so you don't annoy people). Also, reading harder content outside of the SAT can help with your reading comprehension so you're able to stay focused while reading at a slightly quicker pace. If that doesn't work, you can try jotting down little notes (a word or two) after each paragraph to keep yourself engaged, but that might take too long. Hope this helps!
I advise u to follow every word with your finger/pencil and reflect on what u just read for a second every few lines. Maybe jot a few notes/underlining but don’t spend too much time on that
I watched this video just days before my sat and still managed to utilize most of your tips, breezing through the test and increasing my score by 60 points! Good looks!
I came across your channel, and these videos are amazing! You structured everything so well. Good luck to everyone who's gonna take SAT! Also, idk why, but your voice sounds a little like Alexis Bledel's when she was young, so it felt like Rory Gilmore giving advice:)
I took the SAT today, yesterday I watched your video; which saved me soo much time on the reading section, this video is probably the most straight forward tips on SAT reading section on all of RU-vid platform. I will be recommending this video to my friends and family. Thank you so much for the amazing & helpful advice Anna!!
Good luck! It helps to take as many practice tests as you can to get used to the test format if you want to score 1500+, although since you only have three days left it might be more useful to focus on just your mistake areas + review past mistakes with the time you have. Be sure to get enough sleep the night before and take care of yourself--remember you'll be okay no matter what you score in the end
