As a dietetic graduate student, I can say that diets that avoid any of the major food groups (bread, meat/protein, fruits, vegetables, & dairy) aren't healthy diets. Our meals should consist of ALL food groups in order to achieve adequate nutrition and growth. Only people with gluten intolerance should be on a gluten-free diet. Gluten is nutritious. What you should be avoiding are flour products (white bread, cookies etc.) while choosing whole-grain products.

I would like to say that whole wheat and corn is not "empty calories". They actually contain lots of nutrition and if you eat them in their unprocessed forms, they are really good for you! Many cultures, especially those native to america, thrived on corn as a source of calories and nutrition, and they are not bad for you at all! And unless you have an intolerance to gluten, there is no reason why one should avoid eating it. I don't like how people recently have been rejecting carbohydrates, our human race has thrived on starches and carbs (in their unprocessed forms) for thousands of years, and most cultures that consume lots of starch - like those of africa and asia, have the lowest BMI's and the lowest rates of chronic disease.

+sarafritsch123 As a doctor I whole heartedly agree with you. I firmly believe that no food is bad for us but rather, it is the way it is eaten that makes it bad for us. Sure French fries and ice cream aren't nutritious but they are only bad for us if we are consuming them too much. :-)
@ellabutterflies

+sarafritsch123 I know, you are right. But it is wellknown as well that even if you aren't intolerant, gluten always irritates a little bit of our intestines, and then digestion is not done in its maximum. So, it is healthier not to eat a lot of gluten. I'm sorry if my english is bad, not english speaker here ;)

+sarafritsch123 You are spot on! This vlog basically just lumped up all the current "fads" together. :(
@sarafritsch123
@sarafritsch123 8 лет назад
+Patricia Cassie Of course if gluten irritates your digestion, you should eliminate it! But gluten and wheat were never eaten throughout history like it is today. Most breads were left to ferment and sour before cooking, people would soak and even sprout the grain before cooking. Those processes change the nutritional breakdown of the food and make it much easier to digest! Things like sprouted grains bread or a good whole wheat sourdough are great and very healthy! But my comment was for those people who can digest gluten well but are told by fad diets that its bad: NO! Unless gluten feels bad when you eat it, there is no point to eliminating it

I understand the whole gluten free, dairy free lifestyle is something most people embrace, and I did too for about a year This lifestyle is best for people who have a high tendency to gain weight etc etc. I am a skinny girl and i found that these kind of lifestyles make you lose weight really fast, and this kind of diet combined with exercise can really destroy your body in the long run each to its own, but remember to take everything anyone says with a grain of salt and do what works best for you and your body type. I have started eating dairy and gluten again as it helps me to stay on my ideal weight and look healthy.

Dear Mimi, i really love you, BUT... this time i have to disagree with you: 1. Gluten... actually it's a mix of proteins that you can find mostly in wheat, but also in other grains. All reliable science sources say that, as long as you don't have: - celiac (ca. 1% world population) - non-celiac gluten sensitivity - wheat allergy ( ca.0,2% world population) you don't have to afraid of gluten. From what you're saying i think that there's bit misunderstanding. Why? Because if you stop eating grains there will be positive change in your body. You're decreasing amount of carbs you're adding to your diet. As a consequence you're loosing weight (as long as you're on deficit) and part of water in your body, so it looks leaner. So it's not gluten that harm you (i assume you don't hove one of those illness), it's just too much carbs from grains :-) 2. Dairy... as long as you're eating moderate amount of diary from good sources (cows that are only feed with grass) it's ok. The changes you're talking about like problems with skin come from eating dairy, because cows milk is produce when cow need to feed their baby, and to produce milk they need certain hormones. These hormones affects us and as effect you have pimples. 3. My favorite...SUGAR! Mimi, any sugar is addictive and to your body it doesn't really make a difference from what source you are taking it :-) Of course sugars that bear some micronutritiens with itself like honey, mucovado (the one with molasses), coconut sugar are better than refined. As for stevia, the problem with it (and also with artificial sweeteners) is that, even thou they don't have calories (actually they do, but very tiny amount) the're cosing insulin immune, because of the sweetnes they have. Each time you eat something your body relies insulin, if you're eating ''nothing'' like stevia, which have sweet taste, then you'll still get insulin in your blood. Eventually your body is confused and slowly is developing insulin immune. 4. corn... when it's organic, it's ok. 5. Soy, actually organic FERMENTED soya souce is healthy 6. Trans fat...pretty obvious. It's also worth to mention, that if you're fry (or even bake) something, use refined oil, because it doesn't burn quickly and it doesn't oxidize that much as virgin olis. I'm not saying that what you're doing is wrong. As long as it works for you it's great! But if you sharing information with other please consider to add reliable science sources to informations you're sharing. And don't get other to mess in your head because something is popular right now ;-) Some sources to read: Pauline Koh-Banerjee i in. - Changes in whole-grain, bran, and cereal fiber consumption in relation to 8-y weight gain among men Eva Qing Ye i in. - Greater Whole-Grain Intake Is Associated with Lower Risk of Type 2 Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, and Weight Gain Cristina Bucci i in. - Gliadin Does Not Induce Mucosal Inflammation or Basophil Activation in Non-celiac gluten sensitivity: literature review. @sarahsahar5622
@sarahsahar5622 7 лет назад
Maorissa about the gluten, all that is true but gluten stop your growth factors working properly. so timing with gluten can help your body alot. for example if you stop eating glute for breakfast and lunch for a while, growth factors get a chance to work properly and your immune system and hormones work at optimum levels and you burn more fat or you feel better etc (if I remembered correctly, don't shoot if im wrong lol). that's why you see models and athletes eat gluten only at certain times when they want to achieve something. for me personaly, i don't have food allergies and I don't want to grow sensitivities by eliminating certain foods or food groups. but I do quit sugar for periods of time because it's just bad. but I usually can't keep that up for long because it is in everything!! lol

she's not well informed. she's spewing fads and anecdotes.... not science. don't cut stuff out. just eat few calories, lots of nutritious content, and exercise. it has never changed. don't follow fads.
@cleansetsandbaguettes5236
@cleansetsandbaguettes5236 8 лет назад
+tewkewl She seems pretty well-informed to me. And the most important thing is she hears these "fads" and researches them before applying them to her daily routine; she heard about a certain trend, but educated herself before doing it and talking about it. Whether or not she happens to be following a fad, at least she is intelligent enough to fins out if there is any science behind it. Not all fads are as dumb as the shake weight.
@simplyshama
@simplyshama 8 лет назад
tewkewl few calories? I think you mean sufficient calories. If you have an active lifestyle you dont want to be eating few calories. Even if you arent active, you'd get hungry and be over-eating to compensate. A lot of nutrient dense foods tend to be low calorie anyway.
@foxybaby18
@foxybaby18 8 лет назад
+rubbrchickn She might "research" them, but she is not doing so on the proper scientific websites. She is not properly informed, as from a nutritional stand point, her diet is not the healthiest and well rounded. I love mimi and really appreciate her videos, but she really needs to talk to a nutritionist before saying stuff to her huge following. She is leading women like you and many others to believe some things, which quite frankly, are not true and not the best for your body. Anyways, she has good intentions but she should consult with a nutritionist.

I recommend people to watch 2 of ASAP science's video. The first is about "What is Gluten" and the second is about "What is natural?" Gluten is just not empty calories, there is no real benefit from eliminating it from your diet and additionally, certain nutrients are chemically bound to gluten. Please do your own research and educate yourself before you take anyone else's "advice".

I am personally vegan and have been it for many years. Reason why is because I dont support the meat industry and also because I dont like meat. The intresting thing is that this Gluten free diets are just silly i mean only people with celiac should avoid Gluten. I have studied dietistics in university and very concious about this topic , so basically I would say that eliminating Gluten without having Celiac isnt good in many cases. Natural wheat growing isnt harmful at all for us. Foods like buns and white bread that are processed and contain tons of sugar, chemicals are harmful. There is a difference between avoding white bread( wheat) and healthy grains.

true. i have celiac and haven't eaten Gluten since I was 3, which doesn't make me any healthier or 'skinnier' than anyone else, let alone 'sexier'. i eat everything my friends eat only glutenfree, and it makes no difference whatsoever- in our health NOR body. you can take that from a person who's been on a gluten free diet her whole life, so trust me, i know what i'm talking about.

One thing she really should have hit on is moderation. That's the most important thing. If you haven't had a cupcake for about a month or two, having one will actually spark your metabolism & won't affect your body. Gluten isn't bad unless you're allergic to it. Pasta and breads that are whole wheat are full of sugar, which is why it might be a good idea to also just eat those in moderation. Don't completely cut things out but don't have them every day.

xohearts baby Hopefully most of the foods you love are real foods and not processed??? Start there. I think the real question to ask yourself is "Do I really know what I'm putting in my body?" A lot of us have lost the knowledge of where our food comes from and just dig into what's in front of us. Also, each body is different so you have to listen to yours to determine what works for you. Do a search on the blue zones map to see how longest living groups around the world eat daily. It's not about just living longer...it's about having a longer vibrant life ;)

Just like how some women are very thin even when they are healthy and that is also sexy! She is telling us what works for her and is preaching the message of health!! I know that when people are unhappy with their body and know there are ways to change it, they feel attacked when people point out those things, like being healthy, and lash out. But instead of lashing out and posting untrue comments, how about you change something. Either change your mindset and say, "You know what? I like my body and I don't need to change a thing!" Or you can change your lifestyle and say, "It is always better to keep improving and not remain stagnant in old ways". I wish you the best on learning to love the body you've got!!

@xoheartsbaby 9 лет назад
Asma Asgar I don't get it at all either….sugar is sugar is sugar it all breaks down into the same 3 monosaccharides. And although I am not a nutritionist, I have taken classes as another requirement for my major. So to answer your alternative vs. natural sweetener question, it depends on your diet/lifestyle. If you are overweight and trying to watch your weight or lose it, alternative are going to better fit your goal by eliminating extra sugars from your diet. However, if you are a healthy weight and exercise regularly, go for natural sweeteners. This way, you avoid the chemicals and burn off the sugar during workouts anyway.

Actually, you need carbohydrates, because that's the energy for your body, glucose is vital, as I said, it is the energy for the body and that includes your brain, so eating things with gluten, that actually have carbohydrates IS GOOD for your body (if you are not allergic of course), of course if you eat that in excess you will have a lot of energy your not using and that would make you fat because that's the way it is stored in our bodies. That being said, it is good to eat vegies because they have antioxidants that prevents diseases, have vitamins that are vital and also have carbohydrates, and some of them have another nutritional things that your body needs as iron, zinc, calcium, etc So they are so full of good things, and you need to eat 3 portions of fruit and 2 of vegetables so you will have those things only they have. So as others have said EAT EVERYTHING BUT IN BALANCE!

Maria000Teresa yeah because everything else is real, right? :D The whole planet is GMO eating honey from the market instead of sugar doesn't make you healthy why? Because it has been heated in order to stay liquid, and all its vitamins and good thigs has just gone away! Should I go on, I don't think so...

I disagree with the last post ...about wheat. I hope I don't sound harsh (not my intention). But after working in a university, and understanding how and why grants are given for research, doesn't necessarily mean that the research will be properly done, or the findings will be correct. Science is only a product of human thought and action. Remember, once upon a time, science led us to believe we evolved from apes. Now scientists are saying this is not the case. In my opinion, life experience of self and others is the best teacher. With myself, I find I can eat wheat .. I am not allergic to it, but I know I feel much better in general when I avoid it. Same with everyone i have talked to who has ditched wheat ... they feel better, lose weight etc. ☺

I do like you and your channel, but this video is just...uhhh...why don't you stop eating and see if that feels best? The human body needs it all, but in moderate quantities. You can't just cut off eating gluten, dairy and all the other stuff, because your body needs those things in order to function properly. A lot of people make changes in their lifes especially whe it comes to their diet without realising that it can be harmful. And the worst part of all that is people do those things just to be liked by others. At least don't try to make your diet sound healthy, because it's not even close to that. Plese be careful ,because a lot of teens might be watching this video and they would definitely try following your eating habits in order to have a "sexy body" and eventually they would suffer a lot because of different eating dessorders and puberty that went wrong.

Catherine S All of my relatives and friends consume gluten and dairy, how come non of us have cancer or stomach problems. Gluten is a completely natural part of grain products, if you eat gluten-free grain products you are probably consuming tons of chemicals used instead of gluten. Also, i am part of a nation that has existed for 3000 years or even more, my ancestors the tracious people have invented youghurt. So in our country dairy products are consumed on a daily basis and i know just 2or3 people who have died from any form of cancer.Here if someone dies from cancer people are startled. Whats more by applying youhurt and honey mask on my face my skin was glowing, and if you suffer from greasy hair try yoghurt as well, you will definitely be suprised by the results(personal experience) I have no idea if you have personally checked the nonsence you have written but i advise you on spending some time reading about yoghurt and all the amazing healing properties it has. Ahh in case you want to know where i have this info from, i have majored healthy eating and health conditions caused by food in Germany. And btw if you are american, please stop contaminating the world with mcdonalds and all the healthy stuff you produce. It is funny to hear people that invented so much bad thigs talking about health. Believe me in a country like yours even the air is polluted, but wait i have just found the cure stop brething, stop eating and maybe you will get fit. :D

Catherine S As I have stated below, I have graduated from university as a doctor with additional qualification in healthy eating and health conditions caused by different dietary habits. Based on all the knowledge I have gained during the 9years of education in Medical University, the opinion I state is completely scientific and up to date with the newest breakthroughs in science and medicine. If you really believe that by reading the content of a product you understand what it contains, wow you must really be a scientist. Also there is a wide variety of chemicals that don't induce allergies, so the world's health organisation allows the producer not to mention them in the content of the product. For the sake of mentioning this, I do make my own bread at home, but the gluten is part of the grain's structure, maybe you prefer eating GM grains? As I have adviced you before, please read some more about the dairy products,but check some researches conducted in Europe(we don't add hormones and stuff to it). I think we should end this pleasant chat here, because I have difficulties explaining what I mean in English. I hope I am of some help with the facts I have stated and I do hope you change your way of thinking for the better, Of course it's your body and your life, I just state my medical opinion. Have a nice day!
@foxybaby18
@foxybaby18 8 лет назад
+Catherine S The things you are saying are completely irrelevant...please educate yourself. Its scary how ignorant you. If you live in Canada consult the Canadian nutritional guide. There is a reason why you need 6 portions of grain products. Gluten doesn't kill you unless you have Celiac Disease, nor does it cause cancer or brain problems. Stop taking random extrapolated facts from the internet.

you're cutting out dairy and not cutting out meat ???? the first thing people need to cut out of their diet is meat, before gluten or even dairy. I am a plant based vegan and feel better than ever.
@foxybaby18
@foxybaby18 8 лет назад
+Danielle don't cut out meat... Meat is one of the most rich sources of essential proteins, good fat and a ton of other vitamins and minerals. Even when taking supplements, being a plant based vegan is much more unhealthy, especially considering that as uniformed as you are, you are probably not even taking in the daily necessary nutritional requirements. Reintroduce meat back into your diet, its much healthier. If your concerned for the environment than just eat reasonable amounts of meat , and if your concerned about fat content, stick to white meats like chicken.
@missxmarvel
@missxmarvel 8 лет назад
+Andy S I don't agree that plant based diets are unhealthy. Cutting meat to once a week is a good step towards a healthy diet.
@foxybaby18
@foxybaby18 8 лет назад
Emma Frost You might not agree, but the reality is that simply eating a plant based diet is not nutritionally balanced. What makes you think it is healthy ? Yes vegetables and fruits provide good nutrients, but they don't provide the appropriate daily quantities of essential proteins or fats. Just like you can't live on only drinking water and not eating, you can't only live on only eating plants and not meat or dairy products. Unfortunately the human body requires proteins only contained in meat, its requires gluten and various forms of carbohydrates and healthy fats. If you want to eat healthy on a plant based diet you have to rely on a lot of extra supplements, vitamins and minerals. Not only that but you have to have strong knowledge concerning nutritional values. People without help from a nutritionist should not be limiting themselves to plant based diets, because they are often misinformed.
@missxmarvel
@missxmarvel 8 лет назад
+Andy S Many people who have been on plant based diets mentioned a lot of benefits and mental clarity. Also it has been said that Mean is he main cause of diabetes and heart disease. Diary also risks the chance of developing cancer.

All these fad diets out there are misleading. Gluten free diet are for people who can't digest gluten and are allergic to it. Lactose-free diet are for people who are lactose intolerant and diabetic diet are for people who have diabetes who aren't able to either produce enough insulin or who lack insulin. It's important to eat healthy but if a healthy person undergoes all these fads is simply like starving your body from nutrition having long term effects. This video can miscommunicate to people especially teens to basically go to a pathway of anorexia. Please go to a professional nutritionist. Misleading information with this type of influence can give a big impact especially to young viewers.

Hey, I just wanted to mention that I am not allergic to milk products, but I cut it out of my life because I noticed that my skin gets better as well as my whole body really. @xoheartsbaby

Lisa Bach When you get older your body cuts down production of lactase, which digests lactose, so it's good to cut back but it can still be healthy in small amounts. Also hormones and chemicals in milk are the reason for breakouts/a lot of skin problems. Using organic dairy products fixes this issue.
@AgendaInMind
@AgendaInMind 9 лет назад
Lisa Bach Exactly. Rosacea isn't a skin "condition" that you are helpless to stop. It's a food intolerance, but most people are too lazy to give up the beer and toxic food. Just cover it with makeup and continue to destroy your health.

Angelus Oceanus Just letting you know, cutting out these foods and fad diets isn't a "pathway to anorexia." Anorexia and other eating disorders are mental conditions, illnesses, not a reaction to what you are or aren't putting in your body

Mimi you really need to update yourself. A lot of your points are baseless... It's good to eat healthy but don't just write off stuff saying they are just empty calories. You body needs a bit of everything. You should eat clean and healthy but not give up on carbs, sugar oil or anything. It's better to eat smaller portions of everything and work out.

Processed carbs such as sugar and white bread are more empty than the gluten from whole grains, which actually help the body to completely the amino acid chains from things like peanuts, and can be very nutritious!
