How serendipitous it was that your project utilizing the ESP 32 board applied to the very industry that you were applying to; sometimes our work is done at the ideal time to obtain the best possible outcome even though we're unaware of the possibilities as we perform the task.
I have to say there are many people that say "Software engineering sucks." but I think it depends on how much you enjoy your job and how much you are devoted to it, I also think that it depends on how good you are at your job, if you are bad it mean you will struggle, which in turn will make you hate your job because you can't understand it.

Besides basic computer literacy training or something I'm not sure. Would recommend getting a Udemy course or two on sale and levelling up your skills that are in-demand in industry

Gotta apply and cold email. I think I applied at like 30+ places and got one interview. It's tough out there so need to carry on building your portfolio and contacting companies to offer how you can help them achieve their goals by hiring you

Start learning now so that by the time you end matric, you already got the skills and are ready to work and can skip uni all together like I wish I had done, saves you alot of money and puts you in position that by the time you are 21yrs you will already be a senior engineer while everyone else at your age will only be starting their internship. Get to it and do it asap.
