This is amazing advice. Thank you so much. I recently discovered your videos and now I can't stop watching them. Extremely helpful information here. You've made me realize that as a father, I'm not putting in as much effort as I can or should be. I wish my own parents were able to give me this helpful advice but I feel as though they themselves struggled with these very same things when they were raising me. I can't tell you how helpful these videos are for me and my family. Please keep posting new videos. You have elevated me from being a good father to an AMAZING father. And I can't thank you enough.

My daughter just turned 2 and man she’s smart and very strong willed. She won’t hold my hand and wants to run in a public place. If I try and grab her hand she will fall to the ground and it’s embarrassing. I have to pick her up as she screams and yells while all other parts with young kids just walk hand and hand with no issues. She very very strong willed. Hellp

very helpful video. on a side note though, one doesn't always have the time to give the child options, there times when they'll just have to do as mom/dad says period. when it's time for them to face the real world out there, like school for instance, more often than not they will have to obey without necessarily being given options. I think balance is key here: sometimes you do let them choose so they can learn to be in control, other times they still need to listen and do as asked.

My son likes to scream a screechy, loud scream, and he will not stop. It only happens once in a while, but it makes everyone else in the room say no, stop screaming. How can I handle this other than asking him to speak quietly, which does not work at all.
@etheledhrin7098

I have this problem as well - what I do is give him another sound to make instead. It’s a sound he likes to make (sounds like “mmNAH!”), so when he gets in scream mode I remind him of the other sound. It doesn’t always work, but a lot of times it does. I also sometimes remind him to hush by saying, “quiet,” or “sing if you’re happy.” Saying “no screaming” or “don’t scream” isn’t great because he hears the word scream and keeps it in his mind.

Stick with it. He is going to begin being more defiant. Part of that is wanting to be in control. He is going to be pushing boundaries and your buttons to see and learn how things work...and how far he can go. If you are inclined, you may want to consider my Parenting Program.

You need a break. Find another parent and watch their child in exchange for your own time off.
