This is what nobody tells you about success.
In this video, you’ll learn one trick that could make you more successful than 99% of people. It's not what you think. And even if you nail it, it won't necessarily make you happy. So enjoy the Red Bull, pizza, and... cocaine? No, don't enjoy the cocaine. Just the pizza.

The successful contrarian move here was to make a successful contrarian video about being a successful contrarian. How contrarian!

I totally agree - Great thinking - Great video! But I think the real question should be how to get ahead of 80% of people. Because the benefit of achieving this level of success would lead to greater opportunities, recognition, and personal satisfaction that most people can only dream about. I would love to watch a video from you about this! 😊

Like Lazarus before me, I question this. It's stock-standard knowledge for things like sudden fortune or fame. (The economic, psychology & even health outcomes stats for lottery winners 5 years after is really depressing.) However, it does _not_ apply to hard fought knowledge, expertise, wealth, or relationships. This is _particularly_ true in cases of struggling (eg economically). Working and becoming more successful in academics didn't make me "more" depressed. It _fixed_ my anxiety at initial bad marks and thus cut my depression off at the source. Likewise going from below the poverty line to a successful job doesn't make someone _more_ stressed about their finances. They may eventually develop new stressors due to an adjusted definition of success. However, it's nearly guaranteed that a way to fix many mental health disorders in the US would be better education and more opportunities for those of low SES. "More of myself" is only half the story.

@@lazarussevy2777 dude, that's what he said. If the heat in hot water is amplified, it becomes vapour. He didn't say they'll be the same. He said they'll be an amplified version of themselves. That's why if someone gets rich and seems to have changed, then there was probably a part of that person you didn't know before that got amplified. Dunno if this makes sense.

One thing to remember: Money. A lot of the so-called "geniuses" we worship today were born into wealth, and to a degree, were able to fail upwards. Also, a lot of people in history who we know today, truly lived as mavericks and went against the flow, and were deeply insightful and/or talented. Mark, I think it's also important to note that the reason you were confident in your contrarian idea was because you'd regularly put in the work (in the form of blogs). This emphasizes that contrarian ideas come from experience and not out of the blue.

It feels like all of these "morning routines" and "gym at 5 am" are coming from not having an understanding of how to deal with their life, so we try to show how successful we are, covering under those things. Don't get me wrong, I 100% realize that these are important. Sport, therapy, healthy eating - it does the best for our stability and inner health. But they should be things that support us and not the main point of focus

I understand and deal with my life quite well actually. It feels good to feel good. If other people like physically and mentally feeling like shit then go ahead and be my guest. Lol nobody cares. Take care of your body and your body will take care of you. The amount of energy I have is unrealistic compared to 99% of Americans or the 60% that is obese. I'll do circles around people for days mentally and physically. And I'm not sure how many people you know, but the majority of fitness folks that I know are legitimately successful. It's not some fake mask they put on. They legitimately have the discipline to carry out and execute tasks and goals. The thing a lot of people don't understand is that exercise can teach you a lot more about life than just being healthy and "looking good" but only the people who do it all the time would understand what I'm talking about.

The hardest part about achieving extreme success isn't the work, anyone can put in the work. It's being a correct contrarian. It's the willingness to question widely-held assumptions. It's the ability to look at alternatives or opportunities that most people can't be bothered with. It's the ability to adopt unpopular beliefs and then stick to them when people start making fun of you.

Lessons: 1. Be willing to do what most people are not: To get ahead of 99% of people, you need to be willing to do something that 99% of people are not willing to do. This means going against the norm and being a contrarian. 2. Have a contrarian idea: Most people go with the flow and agree with popular opinions. To achieve extreme success, you need to have a contrarian idea, something that challenges widely-held assumptions and beliefs. 3. Be correct about your idea: It's not enough to have a contrarian idea; you need to be correct about it. Most contrarian ideas will be wrong, so being right is a difficult but crucial aspect of achieving success. 4. Execute massively: Execution is important, but it is not the sole determinant of success. While it is necessary to put in the work, execution alone is not sufficient. It's the combination of having a correct contrarian idea and executing on it that leads to extreme success. 4. Question widely-held assumptions: Success often comes from questioning widely-accepted beliefs and exploring alternative opportunities that others might overlook. It requires adopting unpopular beliefs and sticking to them even in the face of criticism. 5. Focus on impactful decisions: Extreme success is not the result of numerous small actions or productivity hacks. It often boils down to a few key decisions or ideas that have a significant impact. Identifying and executing on these impactful decisions is crucial. 6. Downsides of extreme success: The downsides of achieving extreme success. Being a contrarian can lead to isolation and disapproval from others. It challenges the notion that extreme success brings validation and approval, as it often invites criticism and skepticism.

Key points from this video: 0:00 - If you want to be ahead of 99% of people in the world, you have to do what 99% of people aren't willing to do. 1:17 - To be successful, productivity hacks, morning routines, etc. don’t matter. 1:31 - Mark used to wake up late (11am), eat unhealthy, and waste time on his laptop (for 3 years), but still built a 6-figure business. 2:28 - To be successful, you have to: 1. have a contrarian (unpopular) idea 2. be correct about that idea 3. execute on it massively 3:27 - We tend to focus on #3 (execution/routines/etc.) because it’s easy to observe and replicate. 3:50 - Steve Job’s contrarian idea = One day, computers will be in every home and office. 4:47 - Warren Buffet ate unhealthy food. 5:15 - Kobe Bryant ate unhealthy food. 6:10 - At some point in the past airplanes, light bulbs, and computers were some people’s contrarian ideas. 9:00 - The downside of success: no one likes contrarians. 9:56 - Success is only meaningful if your contrarian idea is meaningful. 10:02 - Success only improves relationships that don't need to be improved. 10:19 - To be correctly contrarian, you have to be incorrectly contrarian a lot. 10:50 - Extreme success is not going to make you happy. 11:30 - You should ask yourself why you want to be more successful than 99% of people. Interesting take on success - or should I say "contrarian" take on success. Thanks, Mark! Sounds reasonable and logical, but I do wish we had some data/evidence beyond just Mark's personal anecdote and the few examples provided (Steve Job, Warren Buffett, etc.).

A lot of great points. One clarification is that “monk mode” simply means being hyper focused. Or rather, not distracted by a million things. I think this is indeed an important element of success in anything: focus.

Thanks Mark! Especially for the "success amplify who you are part. For quite a long time I've been going throughout "self improvement". Imade tidy schedule, did those good habits & other stuff, yet I didn't really feel like becoming a much greater person. Watching this, I realized the reason I didnt feel that way is my identity. I subconsciously brand myself as "someone who need self improvement". Turns out what I need is to execute massively my what I want to do, even if I am not regulated to "strict & tidy 24/7 daily habits"
