The chart you drew the route on is a huge improvement over just watching you ride in canals. Good job. 👍👍

Yeah, that chart has been there since 2012. Thanks for checking the actual blog post and not just watching the video.

Great video. I’ve fished Delacroix several times a year for the last 8 years, and still don’t feel comfortable venturing out of my “comfort zones” within that area. My biggest fear is shallow water and getting stuck. I’ve been wanting to try Hopedale for years, and your videos have been very helpful! Hopefully I’ll get over that way this summer or fall.

I don't know how Delacroix gets the rap for being shallow, because shallow water is everywhere on Louisiana's coast. Identifying and avoiding shallow water (and other navigational hazards) is the focus of the Advanced Inshore Navigation module inside Inshore Fishing 101: www.lafbelite.com/course/inshore-fishing-101/

Bay Boat v Bass Boat I'm going to make that run for the first time in a couple of weeks, thanks Devin. I had a bass boat for many years and currently have a bay boat. While the bay boat is is the right boat for what I'm doing now, I do miss my bass boat from time to time. Not when it's blowing 15 to 20 though ;-)

Good run. I wanna know how to get out of hopedake/shell beach into Biloxi marsh. Looks easy on the map but I think there are spill ways blocking the cut thru's.

Hey Roger, that's a good question. It's a pretty easy route, one that you can see in my Post Trip Review of a fishing trip to the Biloxi Marsh: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uE-cd-ip2rc.html Tight lines, Roger.

So going out, keep poles to your right on the first pond filled with poles. What about the second section filled with poles ? I feel like I’ve gone thru on both sides of it, but which is right?

Howdy Devin - excellent, informative video. Two questions: (1) can you offer any additional tips or suggestions about when to avoid Brady Lagoon and take the longer route? I obviously understand the basic concept - don't take Brady Lagoon when the water is low. But I don't fish this area much so I don't have a knowledgebase of what constitutes low water in this area. Any additional intel would be appreciated. I have a 24' Champion Bay Champ; (2) assuming you make it successfully across Brady Lagoon, is the canal on the south side that takes you to the MRGO sufficiently deep? Any concerns about depth once you get into the canal? Much appreciated, I just joined LAFB Elite the other day, looking forward to getting into the content. Cheers

Hey John, thanks for watching and especially for joining LAFB Elite. As for Brady Lagoon, I can't really spitball it anymore than "don't go when it's low" and, if you do, check for mud kicking up in your wake and, if in doubt, mash out. I know everyone wants to know their boat can make it under but it's never an exact science (like bridge clearances on a highway) and you have to have a little confidence in yourself and your boat (even if you're not sure). As for your second question: no, there are no concerns I have for myself or any boat I've driven through there once I get across Brady. This doesn't mean that there's not some shallow water somewhere that will become a hazard a few days after an arctic cold front. It just means that, with all things being equal, assuming you don't do something colossally negligent, that the chance of you getting stuck after Brady Lagoon is pretty slim. At the end of the day you're responsible for everything that happens and fails to happen on your fishing trip. That's one of the beautiful things of fishing! So, if you're unsure, then instead of rushing to catch fish, focus on taking it slow and learning the area. I know it seems like some people are just on fish all the time, but that's not the case. There's a lot of scouting and non-catching going on, and days where they just take it slow to learn an area and build on that success. Hope that answers your question.

Pretty good information - especially the etiquette and safety pointers- but some coords along the way would help. Still not sure where you were when you went straight to Mr go “the shorter shallow route”. Vs left towards Breton Sound, thanks

Hey Greg, thanks for commenting. That's why I have the blog post linked in the description. You can only teach so much on RU-vid, especially seeing that it's impossible to edit coordinates into the video. Check out the blog post in the description and you'll find everything you need plus more. Tight lines!

How do you get from Hopedale to Chandeleurs? How far or long is the run?
@LAFishBlog
@LAFishBlog 2 года назад
You could take a variety of routes, but once you're in open water it's pretty straightforward: just drive to the Chandeleur. Honestly, if you have to ask then you probably shouldn't go. There's a lot of different things that can go wrong on your way out there, and I could not possibly cover all of them in comments on RU-vid. This is why I have LAFB Elite. Inside my membership there's a course called Advanced Inshore Navigation that teaches inshore anglers like yourself how to identify safe routes and upload them to your GPS. Considering the cost (as much as any rod/reel combo) it's worth the investment. You can learn more here: www.lafbelite.com/join/ Thanks for watching, Dennis.
