Tokyo station is the major hub of Shinkansen trains to other parts of Japan, and airport buses, Narita Express, and Keiyo line to go to Tokyo DisneyLand. Tokyo Station has lots of shops and places to eat, but it's a little confusing. I'd show you how to get around and find your destination in Tokyo Station.

Knowing that JR East and JR Central are color coded helped immensly

Thank you. JR East is always green. JR Central is (company logo: orange, Tokaido Shinkansen color : blue)

We just got back from Tokyo and it was still confusing at this station. We allowed plenty of time to get lost. It’s like a huge city here. There are lots of station agents around who were very helpful. We also used Google Translate as some of them had limited English. We never found the side that looks like a historic building . Bus to Narita Airport was very easy to take due to your video. Must less complicated to booking express train and a lot cheaper.

Thanks Kengo for the video which is well organized and systematically presented. However I don’t mind getting lost in the labyrinth of the underground shopping mall 😅.Because this is a huge station with lots of passengers riding on Shinkansen, I suppose bento would be a very popular takeout for the train trip. Is the food market in Daimaru a good place to shop for nice bento?
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan Год назад
Chow san, haha. yes. Daimaru is a great place to get a bento box. The store opens at 10 in the morning. If you are getting bento to eat on Shinkansen, there are some bento shops for train users in the JR concourse too. But after you enter the Shinkansen gate, selection of bento is limited.

Thankyou Kenchan. My wife and I are travelling to Tokyo for the first time in October and this is just what I was looking for as we will be going through Tokyo Station several times. Are the buses for Haneda airport departing from the same area as Narita buses?
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan 10 месяцев назад
Hello, thank you for watching this video. I'm glad you found the video helpful. Unfortunately, they don't operate the bus from Tokyo Station to Haneda Airport anymore. So you might want to take trains or taxis if needed. I hope you have a great trip in Japan. :)

Thanks for the video Kengo-san . I have to catch a 7:53 Hitachi Express to Namie station a few days after I arrive in Tokyo. Do you recommend trying to find the exact platform it leaves from and how to get there the day before? Or just wing it? Thanks!
@tokyokenchan

It seems that train is usually leaving from platform No.8. It's not difficult to find platform, but it might feel safe to arrive there early. :)

Thank you for all this information. It’s very helpful especially for first time visitors to Japan. I heard that there is a limit size to luggage you can take on a train. Is this true?
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan Год назад
Hello Marilyn, thank you for your comments. That's great you are visiting Japan! I checked about the luggage. Usually you can bring: Luggage up to 2 pcs (each total linear dimensions (length + width + height) max 250cm) . But for Tokaido Shinkansen by JR Central (that I mentioned Blue in the video) , they made a new rule that if the total dimensions are bigger than 160cm, they ask you to reserve a seat with luggage space for "No additional cost". They say they have enough seats for many international tourists with suitcases.

Hi, i have just subscribed to your channel. I will be travelling to tokyo station from shin osaka using the shinkansen. As I will be chartering a car service to pick me up from Tokyo Station to Disneyland, may I know which is the best way to exit the station and the best pickup point for the driver to wait for me when I arrive? I will be reaching Tokyo station at about 3pm on a weekday. Thank you.

Hi Tokyo Kenchan- your videos helped a lot during my 10 day vacation in Japan last month. On Aug. 2 i am arriving at Haneda for a 1 day layover, but leaving from Narita on Aug 3. I am looking into staying maybe by Tokyo Station or just booking a room at Haneda Garden Hotel. Which will you reccommend between the 2 since i need to go Narita anyway?
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan 11 месяцев назад
Hi. I think that depends on if you like to see central Tokyo even a bit or not. Also how you move to NRT. Obviously it’s easier to go direct by the bus from HND, but you also have different options from Tokyo station too. If you enjoyed Japan already, not sure how much you like to see Tokyo again. :)
@ksjen5864

Thank you so much. I just wanted to buy some Japanese treats for the family, enjoy a batch or a spa not too much sightseeing since i have been travelling before heading home. So i am looking at this Super Hotel by Tokyo station with an onsen or the new hotel by Haneda airport that also has an onsen. What do you think?
@williamli9545
@williamli9545 Год назад
Thank you for the great info! we will land in NRT, and stay at the Tokyo Station Hotel. is the airport bus a cheaper choice? does we have to walk a lot from the bus terminal to the hotel? Thanks
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan Год назад
Thank you for watching. You are staying at a nice place! Yes, either Narita Express or TYO-NRT bus are convenient, but the TYO-NRT bus is a cheaper choice for 1300 Yen. The bus will arrive at Shin-Nihonbashi exit which is located in the north east of the Tokyo Station, so as you get off the bus, enter the station building and go straight, turn right after a while to proceed to Marunouchi Exit in the west. At 1:17 of this video, above my hand is the isle you can go through from the east to the west. Hope you have a great trip!

Do you have any helpfull tips on how tio book restaurant visits and how to go about if the place dont have any menu and how to see if a place is open? (i find it really hard to see if a place is open or not when the doors is fitted with non transparent windows)
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan Год назад
Usually when they have "Noren" (the cloth screen from ceiling splits to several ) at the entrance, it's open. They put it inside the store while they are closing. Also they have a little wooden sign (営業中)if open, and (準備中)if closed. It happens that I try to go into the store and the door is locked, or they say we are not open yet, or it's just someone's house. Always Google review also helps to see the opening hours and reputations as you may know. Sorry I might not be the best person to ask about restaurants but please let me know if you have any other questions.

@@tokyokenchan Thank you so much! It was super helpful! especially with the kanji signs. Since we are gonna stay above lalaport i always have a harder time figuring out if a restaurant is open or closed inbetween lunch or dinner (since they usually never lock or close any doors) in a department store!

May I know , Tokyo Station has closing time? Are all exits are still open after 11:30pm ? I am reaching Haneda Airport late like 10pm , after clearing immigration etc , may arrive at Tokyo station near midnight... can I still walk through basement shops to Yaesu exit 24 , which is nearest to Mitsui Garden kyobashi. Please advise. 🙏 Thank you

Hello, it seems most of the stores are closed by that time, but you can go through to the exit 24 on Yaesu Chikagai until around midnight. In case it's closed, you can across the street and walk above ground. Just make sure you stay warm. In that case, especially if raining or with lots of luggage, it might be better to use taxi or walk from Kyobashi station on Ginza line. I hope it helped.
