How to Get back Movie Maker and Photo Gallery on Windows 10 

Just got a new Computer and thought I lost all my photos from years gone by. I found your site and you made it so easy for someone that is not computer savvy. Thank you for taking the time to help us out. I am now a subscriber.

Thank You Chris Waite...... my hard drive on laptop crashed, lost many photos(had no backup)stupid me. I downloaded as per your advice here and now have my Photo Gallery & Movie Maker back and now look for next great memories. Still the best...even after all of these years. I've tried the alternatives, and always come back to WMM. It's just an easy video editing program to use. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the others, but it does the job...simply.

The replacement for photo gallery is absolute rubbish for pixel art purposes. This is a life saver thank you

After watching some tutorials about this topic, I finally get back my movie maker and photogallery on my windows 7 and I'm so happy because of your tutorial. One thing though, you must delete / remove first anything from your computer related to moviemaker whether it is a folder, a similar downloaded program and you must uninstall first from control panel the previous microsoft essential that was in there. That shared link you gave was a big big help and the last part of your video helps me to pursue that something is wrong with my computer that is why it is not working as what have you taught. And when I downloaded it, the version is more customized than what I have before though can't play now all those I made with my previous version. I can't thank you enough for this. These apps were too useful, so MS got rid of them and gave us a not-so-user-friendly crappy "Video Editor". The new "Photos" app is also a failure compared to the Photo Gallery app. Thank you so much sir! This tutorial is a blessing.🌟

I just got a new laptop with windows 11 and have been searching for something equivalent to photo gallery for downloading photos. Needless to say there is nothing comparable. So I tried your method on windows 11 and it worked! There was a download request for features before the option of choosing programs that wasn't on your video. I wasn't sure if this was going to work so didn't take note of exactly what that was. All the rest of your directions worked perfectly. Thank you so very much!

Thanks so much. I recently got a new PC and didn't know it was gone until now. All the free video editors that I have found are very confusing and hard to use. Movie Maker is so user friendly.

THANK YOU-THANK YOU-THANK YOU! After an unwanted automatic windows update, it disappeared from my computer and I had to search online why it wasn't in my computer anymore! I've been using the Video Editor on another computer that has Win 10 and hate it. I was able to reinstall this on my Wind 8 computer with no error message. I also used Chrome browser with no issues. I can't tell you how happy I am to have this back-:) :) :) THANK YOU-THANK YOU-THANK YOU!

For editing jpeg, this program is the fastest and most straightforward, you can also "revert" after editing and zoom in while straightening, which you can't on the new one. The only thing I noticed is that it won't show the folders the way it used to on my Windows 7 computer.

Hubby, (new computer) and I decided we wanted to try and ascertain WMM so we can share the work of a series of new video projects. I've used the WMM program that resides on my 10 yr. old computer to do many projects over the years. After researching many of the best new freeware programs I decided I wanted to stay with dear old Movie Maker after all. Thanks again for making it possible for us aficionados!

Windows Photos keeps causing my PC to lag and freeze if I leave it in the background for too long so I had enough and downloaded this. (It keeps ramping up my cpu and ram use, I've even repaired Photos which only gave me more time before it starts lagging.) Great vid 👍

Thanks! I had my laptop hdd die and installed a new one which, didn't have photo gallery. Followed all steps but, I used firefox and it worked like a charm. Installed and working great!

I thoroughly enjoyed your video on how to get Movie Make back! I recently got a new laptop with windows 10 and couldn't believe one of my favorite apps wasn't installed! I enjoyed the new version Video Editor, but now I need a way to burn the file to make a DVD that I can watch on tv. Do you know if WIndows DVD Maker is available in the archives, or do I need to download one of the other recommend software programs to do this.

How can I thank you...!!! At the archive page, there ware no options like "Run" or "Save", when I clicked it automatically open the "Save As" window so I saved it and then double-click it to run. I also did not get the error message. I love you, too, a lot!

What do you do if it tells me, "You have the latest version of Microsoft 12 installed" ? When I click on Movie Maker, it gives me an error and says directory name is invalid.

It all did like you said until I selected Photo Gallery and Movie Maker . There was no install button offered...just Close. Does this mean they closed the loophole to download it and your video is now too outdated?

Thanks Chris! I had spent years with my dear old Dad adding tags to thousands of photos using WPG. Eventually, WFG won't work anymore and I won't be able to access all that precious data! Is there a way I can preserve all those tags and access it using some other app? I can't be the only one in this pickle.

Today 20200304, I tried to follow these instructions to install W Photo Gallery, but it seems that Microsoft has closed the archive. But i´m lucky that I installed it on my other Computer some months ago. So thanks for this instruction anyhow. :-)

Dear Chris Tried the download and it failed- got the same error message 0x800c0006 that you mention, but Movie Maker and Photo gallery have not installed. Desperate to get Photo gallery back! Any suggestions?

Thanks Chris. Your info allowed me to change to Windos 10. I had not changed because I didn't know how to recover this program that I use for adjusting my pictures. It worked OK. Just a favor: if you know how to get this program in Spanish. Anyway, thanks again.
