I've been playing for about 2.5 years and I've played at least some just about every day. Then I started learning to play bluegrass about a year in. I'm still far off from where I want to get to, but I see continual progress. I'm finally able to play some licks into my playing. I tend to practice the same things a lot. One song I've practiced for about a year now every day is Blackberry Blossom. I can finally play it pretty decent at about 90 BPM. that's good for me.
I love to hear about your bluegrass journey! Blackberry blossom is a great tune. I’m curious what are some of the hang ups or pain points of learning bluegrass for you?
@alexgraf8417 Hi Alex, at this point, I'm still trying to learn how to understand the entire fretboard, and just trying to work on my picking and coordination. I'm nowhere near where you are.
That’s awesome! Yup, we have a unique challenge as guitar players- the fretboard is a weird thing, but once you start to see the big picture patterns, it just opens up! Don’t stop chipping away bud!
Really enjoy your content, it’s not bull@.. I’m a finger picker that’s now in a nee bluegrass group and am out of my comfort zone . So anything you put up is appreciated.👍🏼🥴
Love your getting into this. You may need to put a noise gate in your post production signal chain, High noise floor on the video. Never hear it in your reels. Keep up the great work.
I think anxiety is the driver of so many of these anti-practice habits. Can’t keep the guitar on a stand in the living room - it might dry out! Better to not play at all than play in a way that might damage the guitar. Can’t practice without a plan! Maybe I should go spend two hours watching gear reviews for guitar seats rather than sit down on the steps! Can’t play in front of someone else, I might make a mistake and they’ll judge me!
