Here at Rich Tea Racing we have over 20 years of experience in karts, in this episode of Rich Tea Racing: Derrick, JJ & PDubs discuss their top tips for beginners and intermediates in Karting.
The number one rule for club racing has to be LOOK AHEAD! Not only does it help you avoid accidents, but it makes it easier to know when you can get fully back on the throttle on the exit
Excellent advice, I think, as I'm new to karting. Some differences that seem important and not clear to me is finding and driving on the limit. The first most obvious thing I felt I needed to understand better is how the rear wheels spin, their locked differential (?), and how to apply breaks and acceleration to help spin the car into the corner. I tried trail breaking and it seemed to work well, but I still was not as fast as I expected. I am sure I have the pieces but don't quite see how to hold it together or adjust my understanding to karts, coming from sim racing like iRacing with mostly open wheelers.
We were doing the team endurance, but with that gone JJ is doing a few rounds of the Endurance 60, should hopefully have a few videos to go along with that as well
Ultimately you just gotta go for it as much as you can, work out where the kart is bad and where it's good, during the good bits drive the absolute shit out of the kart, in the bad bits just do the best you possibly can. It's difficult to really say because a lot of the karts we drive are uniform and have little issues but overall that's the best advice I can give
@@ClumpyWoods Keep practising, its the only way you'll be able to go faster and work out your technique. Don't outdrive yourself, you'll feel the pace coming to you as time goes on. When overtaking, be aggressive but controlled, don't go over the top cos you'll most likely balls it up. When something does go wrong, don't let it get to you, understand what went wrong and if it was your fault make sure to learn from it, otherwise you'll never improve. Oh and don't pick fights you can't win, if someone is clearly faster than you try to hang on to the back of them and see what you can learn, don't try overtaking immediately after they overtake you.
