For those of you who are coming down here to comment about the temperature units (I forgot to add an annotation), here you go: 60°-67° Fahrenheit would be 288.706 - 292.594 Kelvin. Hope that clears things up!

Thomas Frank Lolololol I thought you would give us the value in celsius lololol
tip 1: don't drink coffee tip 2: exercise earlier, not later tip 3: turn off your phone/blue light screens an hour and a half before bed tip 4: make it so that you cant see what time it is tip 5: replace pillow/cooler room/pitch black/ consistent noise
60 Fahrenheit (15C)? Good luck getting out of the bed in the morning. Cool room is one of the main reasons I often oversleep because it's just so nice and warm in the bed... :)
Two words: programmable thermostat. Another benefit is to wake up more gently by the sound of the furnace running rather than the more jarring alarm clock.

Hold on, you uploaded a video after 3-4 days? Damn Thomas, you are giving it all :D
From what I've read, it's best to go to sleep, wake up at your normal time, and then make sure you go to bed at the right time the next day. And don't drive cars or operate heavy machinery during that day :P
I use Sleep with me podcast & sleepohones 👍 the podcast is especially great for people who can't sleep because of anxiety/stress as each episode is basically a bed time story for adults, so a great distraction 😁
I can absolutely relate to the clock near the bed. Waking up 1,5 hours before having to wake up. Staying 1,5 hours before in bed trying to sleep is not fun.
when toi are talking about temperature etc it would be cool tout add in the editing the equivalent in other "value" like celsius degres because I suppose a significative part if your audience isn't american, thx
Gah, I totally meant to do that too! I had the idea when I was writing the script but I guess I forgot to add it to my editing checklist. It'd be roughly 15-19C.
This is so good that there are more and more stuff about sleep problems. People often don't realise this affect their entire lives. Thank you Thomas, great job!
Thank you for your advices ! I use f.lux for a few months now and it is an awesome help to be less "visually tired" (I don't know how to say that ahah) before sleep. Your videos are great, and now I'm quitting RU-vid and go to work. ;)
Dear Thomas. Can you please make a video about how to study video lectures online like the Udemy courses that we are taking. How to study video lectures online more effective. Some courses like coding course. How to study and implement it remember it and understand deeply? Thank you for reading my comment.
Audiobooks are great to sleep to! I usually play scary stories off youtube with my charger plugged in my phone (so it doesn't die). Good channels are Mr.Nightmare or Lazy Masquerade!
Funnily enough I already knew most of these tips and I like to think I sleep way better than most of my friends! I'll have to direct them your way :P There are a couple of RU-vidrs I love to listen to while having an afternoon nap. Their voice isn't quiet or soft, but as you said in the video it's very consistent - there are no loud shouts, spikes or distortion in the audio and I fall asleep basically instantly. I'll have to give the audiobook method a try too as it's probably *even more* consistent.
I can't be separated from my laptop, especially at night. I use it for homework and it's my main source of television since I hardly ever use cable. Plus my phone is useful at night because I love to listen to some music just before I go to sleep. Basically electronics run my night. I always have issues with the blue light, so thanks for the tips! Hopefully I'll get a better rest.
@Thomas Frank : I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos, they truly help people... For two years I've been in a really dark place : family issues, depression, course failures, etc... It's been tough... Originally I was a good student, but I just let all those problems get to me, and I didn't know what to do anymore. So my best friend referred to a psychologist and he referred to your channel. I watched all your videos, took a lot of notes, and used those to build my own system. It's been a month now, and I'm progressing. I'm not yet where I am supposed to be, but I am getting there... Thank you
What is that app you are using for the checklist?? That looks awesome and would help an incredible amount for having a to-do list. I also have an andriod phone if that helps as well for different apps instead of the one he is using on his iPhone
Terrific info. I'm not a great sleeper. Use to be, but I have intermittent sleeps. So crash for 3 hrs, up for 3 and back down for 1. Then must get up and start the day feeling unrested. The tips you provided in this video are helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for your tips. They are very usefull. As for me, I like to listen audiobooks before sleeping too and also i like to meditate before bed time. There are many apps which can help with that.
You didn't ask me but if it helps I really like the app Insight Time and also Stop, breathe and think. I also meditation in the morning and at night I like playing either a yoganidra sleep meditation or something with binaural beats. Loved the video btw, very professional and informative. I'm glad to say I knew most of it because sleep is one of my favorite topics. It's fascinating.
Thomas whats the app you have on your widgets screen ( where you have the weather and workflow ) the one where you check that you've turned off the computer? I want it !! Thanks for the video and for your channel, such great content. Keep up the good work!
something I like to do if I find I want to fall asleep to my favorite tv show is I play it on Netflix on my laptop and then turn the display off so I still get the sound but no bad light 👍🏻
I've been using f.lux for a really long time and find it really useful especially when working late. It is soooo much more comfortable to read stuff on the screen when it's on a white background.
Really? More comfortable to read? Exact opposite for me: I find it harder to concentrate and keep my eyes on the screen. But I think that's what it's supposed to do. Stopping inhibition of Melatonin production and therefore making you tired. So for work, I find it counter effective because it requires being awake and concentrated.
I love your vids and share then with my students akk the time. If you ever want to Skype into a class if undergrads to tell your story, I'm game. I teach anthropology and we study RU-vid vlogging kyraocity via gmail
PLEASE DO READ! I'M SUFFERING FROM IT. Hi sir! I have a doubt I'm studying B.tech 1st year. And up to my experience of knowing myself I like helping others. For example explaining the topics which were taught in class to the people who bring low grades than me. My father says that you need to first build up yourself first then you need to help other. But if I don't help people when they ask for (if is a right and a good 1) I can't say no and my other problem is that when other get more grades than me I feel why I didn't get that grade and when I get more marks than them I feel so proud and overconfidence I tell to myself it's wrong to be overconfident but when ever I try to control it that thought roam in my mind more. So my doubt is that is it good to help people who are studying along me in the studies and how to overcome the overconfidence ,ego. Sir I have lots more of doubt my only thing is that I have asked others too they didn't even respond. AND GUYS WHO EVER IS READING THIS PLEASE FORWARD IS TO Him So that he could find out a solution for this. So people like me who have the same problem can get an solution.
About the overconfident thing, you probably will think this as bullshit but I almost have the same problems as you (controlling my anger, and many of my flaws). I think the best thing we have to do is ACCEPT who we are. Accept your overconfidence, it's who you are and it's okay to think so. Trying to fight our flaws is like trying to fight a fucking tidal wave, you will end up drowning it it. Don't try to fight it, try to observe it in a different light.
Seriously people, listen to podcasts or audiobooks. I like listening to podcasts about things that interest me it keeps my brain quiet and I stop thinking so much :D
I found that falling asleep to people's voices really messes with my sleep. For such a long time i'd fall asleep to long compilations of a certain commentary channel or podcasts, but as soon as i stopped those i slept so much better. I can also fall asleep better to rain sounds from spotify for example, but the problem with that is I have to use the computer or my phone to turn them on, and that ruins my goal of not seeing any screens an hour before sleep... So, I just use silence now.
Fucking audible being promoted everywhere. It's the biggest crap I have ever seen and it's very sad that everywhere I go, I gotta listen to this bullshit.
Have you tried the Sleep Cycle app? It's amazing! It works like sleepyti.me where it determines the best time for you to wake up, and it's an alarm clock. Also, it sets off small soothing alarms within a 30 minute interval of when you want to wake up and you can snooze it by lifting your phone slightly! It's been the biggest aid to waking up better and getting a proper sleep!
Wow, I normally just like Thomas' videos, and go on unsuccessfully promising myself to incorporate some changes here and there into my daily routine; but today, I have to say "Well done, Thomas," really. It's incredible the amount of effort & time that goes into reading, researching, and meticulously presenting us with amazing content the way you do. Thank you so much, and God bless.
Frank, hey... Thanks so much for all the videos and tips, I've found them really helpful. Please, I would like to know how to work with a group, you know, like group study because I tried it before but it didn't work out. So, I just wanna know before I give up completely on it if there is a more efficient way of studying with a group to improve understanding and earn awesome grades?
I'm so glad that I saw this video! I have recently had trouble sleeping soundly. This video helped me to remember something that always put me to sleep whenever I was in bed. Even though I wanted to listen to it. The soundtrack for Dances With Wolves!
