Hes one of the first that ive seen who actually really seems to appreciate the position hes been put in and wants to repay the community by helping out with that he can. Most people in his position would charge for most of the things hes done like the camera down the throat video or this video. Also unfortunately this type of music doesn't seem to have many vocalist that seem to be as outgoing as will so we got lucky with how outgoing and appreciative he seems to be and also humble and not money hungry. There is a culturally significant movement happening here: the vocals of this music style are starting to create awe and curiosity in people. So now the technical skill of this is being investigated-which means it is respected, and not just by practitioners or fans-but it’s starting to catch the attention of the average person. This is really really good for metal! Look at the explosion of technical skill on all instruments and vocals lately… we are entering a great time to love metal.

What does this have anything to do with metal
@corrob
@corrob Год назад
@@icankillbugs it helps bring more attention and acceptability to more extreme forms of musicianship. more people who used to think metal was just power chords and talentless screams, now see that metal has complex structures, and the vocals are actually a skill and not just noise. musicians that are exceptional at their instrument are seeing that metal is the most diverse genre of music, be it a guitarist looking to challenge themselves, or even a full on classical strings musician can find a place in a symphonic black metal band. more people "getting it" means more future musicians in the genre, that would have never given metal a chance before.

ACKSCHYUALLY, he's not explaining ALL the differences between the tongue/no tongue sound at the end. What he also adds to the tongue sound is a slight variation in pitch right at the start of the syllable, compared to no tongue. If you listen in, you can almost hear a hardcore-esque semi-clean sound at the very start of every syllable before he goes into the growl, this is completely absent during his no tongue demonstration. This is something I noticed while listening to early Whitechapel, and picking up on that deathcoreism (the tiny little clean bit of attack) was absolutely crucial in developing an authentic deathcore tongue sound.

As an elite athlete, I’m always looking for how things might apply across discipline. The idea of really warming up makes a lot of sense to me. Runners who are new just tend to go out and run. In reality you need at least a little warmup to make sure your muscles are ready to go! Similar to what Will was saying. There’s also a balance between pushing too hard and not pushing enough. Too hard and your injured. Not hard enough and you don’t get results- again, similar to what Will was saying. Lastly, I love all the nuanced movements and placements to give a bit of diversity in the mix. Just like running- when you know how to move well (doing drills) you can love differently on different terrain to make things easier/harder. I also love Chris, your enthusiasm and willingness to be a student. So cool!! I’ll be signing up as I’m slowly dipping into metal vocals. Thanks for teaching Will and Chris!

I had the same problem for 2-3 years. And suddenly one day out of nowhere I figured it out. It sounded like shit at first but now I have a very solid fry scream. The problem is I can barely sing through an entire song because my voice wears out. I suggest trying to learn fry. The way I do it is tightening my abdominal muscles and really constricting my throat (without pain) and then pushing air combined with head voice through that and that's how I get distortion.

Hi Chris and Hi Will! Your full daily warmup is amazing and I got to learn some great stuff. Buut in the procees of doing the warmups (I am living in an apartment) i got 3 neighbours at my door knocking like hell on the door, threatening me like: if you don’t stop that nonsense i’ll call the cops.. that is not singing, it is just stupid! …. so.. i did finish the whole routine, aaand got the cops at my door after a few more minutes… this made me think i am doing it right 😂. Nothing bad happened but it was a fun discussion. Kudos to both of you for finding the right people and for sharing their techniques! Peace and Love 🤘

Fantastic content, you guys make it extremely easy to understand. I remember years ago when I first started learning how hard it was to find good info on this subject unless you ordered Melissa Crosses' DVDs or something lol so again, bravo for being the helping hand that you are today from all of us learners to you

The cupping of the ear reminds me of how a dj has the second channel that he’s going to switch to going in one ear and listening to the set without a headphone in the other ear. They’re using 1 headphone to prep the next track and they’re using the other ear to hear exactly what the audience is getting in the moment

The muscle to constrict to make a scream are the same you use to hold your breath or cough, which is where false cord engagement takes place. if you sigh and then hold your breath abruptly with force to cut the air off, those are the muscles you need to control. The trick is to cut the air with that reflex but only partially, the more you do this while letting air and voice out the more your false fold will develop and get a better sound over time. You can really improve the false fold sound by learning mongolian throat singing which will help them vibrate easier with less air needed.

It's worth noting that the kargyraa style in particular uses the false folds, whereas the other styles of Tuvan and Mongolian throat singing don't.

@@henrymeadows931 Good point, I neglected to point out there are different styles and which style I was referring to. But yes, it is the Kargyraa style of throat singing I was referring to. Thank you for clarifying that!

As a female, I truly don’t know if I am getting or making the right sound, because it doesn’t sound as deep since I don’t have a deep voice. Any tips for making it sound deeper and more “throaty”?😂

BIG INBEFORE SAYING : They do say :warm up before " but he immediately talks anout the sigh stuff. I insists. First, do basic normal warm up. How the hell someone with such a high level of practice could pass over so quick about the warm up when its almost the most important thing.... I reallly want to say this : FREAKING WARM UP YOUR VOICE INBEFORE ANYTHING. Wether you sing, scream, fry, murmure or.whisper (especially for whispers and true screams) WARM. UP YOUR VOICE. hell, even warm your body. Do the trembling lips. The "lalalalilalolalulale" excercise going high and down... etc... Don't jump off bed and directly start doing harsh vocals. You'll regret it. I don't.mean you won't succeed to do it, I mean : you'll get way better results. AND, you'll keep your voice. ! This should be said and put on emphasis by every singer ever. Also, stop calling the use of voc tech "screams" à screams is something that can't be manufactured. It's just pushing your voice to its maximum. thus tearing your vocal cords. I can speak to you with a normal volume using fry or guttural. That's what you want to aim for. Then you add power and volume
