Hands down this is one of the best videos explaining how to pass the exam! I just passed Security+ last month and now doing CySA+. Everyone is saying it’s one of the most difficult exams they’ve ever taken but I also encourage people to really understand the concepts. Seems like I also am using the same method as yourself as I did with my Security+. Book + note taking and video for supplement material. Not to mention I took hundreds of practice test! Great video …clear and concise with a lot of detail!
This video editing is incredible... It's all about the little details 😉 It was really nice to know a bit more about the path you followed to pass in this exam! Congratulations 🥳🥳🥳 Ooohh and I missed the bloopers 😁😁
Just passed my Security+ Saturday. I took the practice exam for CySA+ from Jason Dion's udemy course as a baseline and got a 75% on the first attempt. With some studying I can probably knock this one out too. Also used the same method for taking the Security+ and it worked wonders.
Another awesome video David, I'm also planning my preparation studies for AWS certifications and the method of listening to some Udemy course as the second activity is really nice, for sure I will apply it. Congrats on the certificate and on the videos!
Thank you so much brother! ❤️ I'm sure you're going to crush those AWS certifications! I'm actually thinking on doing the "AWS Certified Security" more down the line. Yep! Having some audio and video resources to use as we are doing other stuff can be really helpful when trying to optimise your schedule! 🙂 Thank you so much once again for being so supportive!
I think one of the reasons why CompTIA hasn’t bothered to update their Pen-test material is because they’re too busy trying to make their security plus test incredibly difficult to pass every year.
Did you say it took you 3 weeks to study and prep for the exam? About how many hours/day did you spend studying? Also, how many years have you been in the industry?
With this video being three years old, most likely you took the 002 version. I will be taking Sec+ 601 before July 31st, and Cysa 003 before end of October, voucher expires. I will be reviewing both exams over the 4 months. With a day or two for other areas.
This video came right on time because I just decided that I'm going to start studying for this cert since the Security+ isn't enough to land a job. I was wondering, what did you write on your flashcards? Was it a summary of the chapter or do the chapters have "what you need to know" sections at the end? I also use the flashcard method, but for this I want to make sure I'm writing down the right things to be as efficient as possible.
Heyyy! Happy to hear that! 😊 I used flashcards to memorize every Acronym, Methodology, Technology, Standard and Tool! So that’s the reason I ended up with around 300 flashcards 😅
Thanks David for the advise! I'm gonna sit for CYSA+ exam this 10th July and my only resources are Jason Dion's material and practice test in Udemy. Hopefully I will pass just like you!
Another excellent job and awesome tips!! Thank you for your effort :) Keep it up bro! How do you prepare yourself mentally for an exam like this? Is it normal to feel super anxious? How do you deal with the pressure and fear of failing while still maintaining a day job? Love, AA
Thank you so much brother! ❤️ Yep, it is totally normal. Especially when you know that you've done your best to be prepared. Because then, if you fail, there will be no excuses for failure. You simply won't be able to say: "I only failed because I didn't try hard enough" or "because I didn't put in the time to study". Anyway, I think we have to embrace failures as part of the journey. Failures teach us lessons that victories can not. So my advice will always be: do your best and whatever happens, you either win, or learn 🤗
Thanks for the video. What home lab would you recommend setting up to ideally practice comprehensively everything that is needed to pass the CYSA+? Obviously I know I need a computer with Kali Linux, Metasploit and Wireshark installed....what else would you recommend home-lab wise? I just acquired my Security+ so I have a way to go, but I would like to slowly (but comprehensively) be preparing myself for it. *BTW I also used the CYBEX book to help me pass the Security+ - I feel it was instrumental for helping me pass it.
Happy to help! I would say that being comfortable/understanding the purpose of each tool they mention in the Exam Objective is the most important part. I honestly didn't build a home lab for this particular exam, I just went to TryHackMe and did some Rooms on the tools I wasn't particularly used to work with, like Wireshark for example😊
You gotta work with what you have :) Having some experience helps, but if you don't have it, just study the content and try some questions to see what are your weak links and then try to fix them with more studying :D
Hey! Of course! So basically I would just wrote every acronym, methodology, technology, tool, etc on a flashcards, and I divided them by chapters/topics. They way I used them was just going through them a lot :)
First of all Congratulation on your achievement. So Security analysist, do you need any requirements prior to test? Do I have to work in IT or already hold network or security plus certificate or something like that ? and also how long you studied for ? how many weeks or months ? Again someone with no IT background minds though I taking basic courses on cyber security on online like udemy/ future learn and coursera
Thank you Ruksana! I recommend getting the Sec+ before the CySA+, specially if you don't have a background in IT or IT security. I studied 3 weeks for this particular certification. If can also take the Mike Mayers course for Sec+ on Udemy! Highly recommend it!
@@DavidAlvesWeb but was the Sybex book in your opinion resourceful. I have i.t help desk experience but no security experience at all. Did you already have security experience prior ?Also did Cysa assist in landing interviews and also nailing them ?
@@MastermindRell That book is really great! I was already working in IT Security but I'm sure that if you have the knowledge that comes with the CySA, that will help you in an interview for sure, specially for a Security Analyst (SOC) role!
wow that's a stretch! It really depends on your prior knowledge and experience. But I think that 5 days isn't enough time to get familiar with all the concepts you'll encounter by studying for the CySa+ Exam Wish you luck! 😊
Hey man! Thank you so much! So I bought the legs from Autonomous.ai, and then got a Kitchen counter top from IKEA and finished it with a piano black varnish. I'm glad you liked it! 😊
Hey my friend. Wondering if you would be willing to do a video with your 300 flash cards...showing each card for 1 to 2 seconds...would be a big help!!
@@painkillerO8 Did the Jason Dion full course (too long), read cybersecurity analyst cert passport by Bobby rogers, wherever i struggled , would research on youtube.....
Thank you for sharing great tips. I am considering taking CompTIA Cysa+ in future, in order to be CompTIA Cysa+ certified, do we have to take Cysa 1001 and Cysa 1002 exams?
Oh man thank you so much for asking! I go a little bit crazy about cable management and having the cleanest set up. It's not just for the videos, I actually like to have a clean desk in order to have a clear mind while working. As far as the equipment goes, would you like if I did a video about the setup? Showing all the components of the setup, including the desk? Let me know if that's something you would like to watch! ❤️
Hey JT! Thanks for your questions! TryHackMe as created a Defensive Security Path on their platform witch has many rooms for you to practice and learn more about logs and Security Monitoring ☺️ Also, if you want to do things on your own, I would recommend you to config a VM lab, and set up some firewalls and you can use the free version of splunk as a SIEM. Then you can mess around and create some logs to review. Another thing that is useful is to use tools like "grep" to search for relevant information depending on your needs as a Security Analyst.
Hello @arman! I absolutely will! I'm currently working on finishing my MSc degree and I'm planing on making a video on it! Thank you so much for the suggestion 🤗
For sure! And now it’s the perfect time for you to do it! The content from Sec+ is still fresh in your mind and that is going to help you a lot! I also don’t have the 4 years of experience... so I think you’ll do just great! 🤗
Hello David. Very informative video and thank you for sharing your thoughts. I have one question are these resources you mentioned good enough for people like me with no cyber security experience. I do have A+ Net+ and security +.
Hey man! Thank you ❤️ For sure! Having the triad from CompTIA (a, net and sec+) you’ll be more than ready for the CySA+ using the resources I mentioned in the video! 🤗
@@Aalpine001 Yeah with an hour left, only MINOR hiccup were PBQs, Have NO prior IT experience but took Jason Dior course and read one of the many Manuals.......
@@DavidAlvesWeb i Feel once youve taken Sec+ which i Passed SECOND time out, youve better understanding what Cybersecurity's about.......off to CISSP where im reminded its a beast....time will tell
