Always been a fender guy (Strats) and have in the last few years fallen in love with teles. Straight into an amp, mine are a 5e3 (tweed deluxe clone) and a 5W tweed champ, no pedals, everything is basic and the Tele is just a true balls out guitar. I've never felt so conscious about my playing before but with a Tele you kind of hear your shortcomings, not sure if it's just me

Totally agree. I've always wanted a Strat, and played some cheap versions (not Fender) before. Than once i decided to get a real deal and just stumbled upon the Tele and just loved it. Since than its been my main guitar for any kind of playing and style (well, almost). But you can definitely get away with ONLY tele with a great match of amp and very few pedals.

Of course, the Tele's bridge pickup is magic and is the main attraction for many. However, the Tele's neck pickup is equally as fine and can do lots of magic as well. Overall, the Tele is magic in every position. It can do it all and better than most. The early blackguards are particularly fine.

A Telecaster for me is the perfect rhythm guitar because it retains a very prominent clarity and rich and bright tone that has less electronic overdriven sound that you receive from high gain pickups. The sound of a Tele is like a acoustic guitar that has a electric pickup. For lead it's very excellent but you will not have the major gain of a humbucler that compromises clarity and tone by extra response and drive.

Great video! I’m always blown away at how many different styles and sounds can be covered by a Tele. I don’t really use anything else in the studio, and I’ve had artists scoff when I show up to a session with nothing else… They always change their opinion after we’re done. You really can get nearly every sound out of them as long as you know how to use them and know how to dial in your tones.

When Fender Tele has enough output and not very noisy pickups (no noiseless or hot rails etc, just regular good single coil pickups, like v-mods 1-2, texas specials), you play with their height, 2.4-2.0mm for vintage, very glassy, creamy sound, or 2.0-1.6mm, for modern music. You will keep all Telecaster benefits and character, but will be able to play any hard rock/ metal/djent music. Probably on 1-3 steps more gain on your amplifier and sometimes less volume or even tone on your guitar, for switching to gentle vintage classical sound. That's it. Pedals are up to you, maybe only like chorus and/or reverb, just for extra seperate sound experience. Cheers🙂

The Tele is an incredibly versatile guitar and because it has an ability to get grittier, dirtier rock tones, it goes past the Strat in that area. It's super stable, has great sustain and in my experience, is a heavier guitar. That's probably why it has so much thickness behind the sound. The middle position has the spacious sound going, almost chorus like. There's a stability about the sounds that a strat won't quite get. And I never have to finick around to get the tone. The Tele is also the standard for country. It's almost required in that genre. However...the Strat is fun to play if you like dialing up tones. It covers a lot of territory. If I had to pick up one guitar for a straight hard rock gig or a country gig, the Tele is easily the one. If I'm playing at home, I grab my strats.

I have fitted a 5 way switch to my TE-80 NT Deluxe and with some creative wiring I now have even more tone choices as follows. 5. Neck in series with a 1000pf capacitor LOWFI 4. Neck and bridge HOOP (half out of phase) GREENY LES PAUL. 3. Bridge 2. Neck and bridge parallel 1. Neck 1. neck + cap in series dumps a lot of low frequencies to ground which gives it a kind of distant, almost Lo-Fi kinda sound. Like it's being heard through an old 40's wireless with a 6" speaker. 2. The neck and bridge HOOP is almost like the 'Greeny Les Paul' out of phase sound but not as drastic. Adds a little bit of 'quack' which is really cool. The pickups have been replaced for: Dimarzio FS-1 bridge pickup Iron Gear Vintage 6TS neck pickup Also CTS pots with CDE tone capacitor and 50's wiring.

In my opinion the Exlorer is quite underrated when it comes to versatility. It's so much more than your typical metal axe. Love the clean tones of a vintage Explorer, as well as the ones of an SG, as long as it has the right (PAF style) pickups in it.

I found a cheap Squier bullet tele, and now I have 4 of them. One is a Tele Deluxe. LOL The best part about the Squier Bullet is it's thin and light. There are many different sub-genres of "blues". Many of us "of a certain age", myself included, are fixated on 1950's tones. Younger people use more distortion, and sound more like "blues rock" to us old guys. My blues guitar heroes all recorded for labels like Chess,VeeJay, Excello, Modern, etc. It is interesting how things change.

Since my main guitar is an L5 and my back up is a tele, getting rich sounds can be a bit of a process especially at a session where you don't have pedals or sometimes control over the amp settings. Love to see a video with NO pedals- just a cable, amp, & guitar. Getting the tone perfect first with the guitar, amp, and touch or tone from the fingers alone. Thanks, this saved me from a bout of GAS ahead of starting the Justin Guitar Blues Immersion course. I was going to get myself a Strat but I'll just use my awesome Tele and enjoy it.

You havn't captured the only tone worth while on a tele, and that's Jerry Donahue on 'Equinox 1987 - the Claw' If you can copy that sound I'll give you a donut. I think I'll be keeping it tho'... Best o' luck dude.

Getting serial position for a Tele sounds great imho and it is often cheaper than buying another pedal.

Sorry Jazz doesn't play the way you do. This must be played in true Clean. The Telecaster is also a very good jazz guitar. I also find that you talk too much between demonstrations

I mean, you CAN, but why when you CAN with ANY guitar? You can make a Les Paul sound twangy honkytonk if you want to, or you can make it growl like the devil.

”You can play anything on a tele!” Yes, anything that you could anyways play on any single coil guitar. Give me something real heavy on that and I’ll be more impressed.

Definitely wanna see the Stratocaster video! It's one of the most iconic guitars ever! Also, as some other comments say, it would be interesting to see a P90 guitar, something like a LP Special or Junior, or even a Yamaha Revstar, those guitars seem pretty cool! In general, Rhett Shull and other youtubers call them some of the most versatile guitars out there, and it would be nice to see that put in practice!

Thanks a lot! We are more than happy to showthe P90 some love in this series. We both own guitars with P90s and we both love them a lot. Let's gooooo! :) //Kris

Cool video. With the size of that pedal board bank on the floor, you could make that Tele sound like a full orchestra!

That particular Tele is lovely! What model is it? An American Performer?

My Wampler Euphoria (smooth setting) does wonders with the mid switch position for sweet singing blues. I played Strats for years, but have gone over to the Tele side. Very nice job on showing what a Tele can do.

Your video is promo-ed as, and promises at the beginning, to "teach you about getting the most sounds out of one single guitar". Bub, yer vid is you pattin' yer self on the back about what ya got on the guitar. An' tellin' us that folks love yer stuff. Nobody learned anything about a Tele's potential or how to get various sounds from their Tele's.

You guys are missing out on the potential for tele tones. As soon as you set your volume and tone to ten the over tones mask all the nuance. I play blues, hard rock, etc. My rock rhythm tone is smoking hot and usually don't have my volume above 8 and my tone between 6 and 9 depending on the song. If you have your rig set up correctly, just a little nudge of the volume knob changes the character of your tone. For edge of break up, and crunch, there's a huge range of bad ass use tones available, again just a small adjustment of the volume or treble. I can't believe you can play as well as you do with out having stumbled upon the benefits of getting to know how to use the knobs. This isn't meant to be a rant, as I said I was surprised guys of your experience and chops are blowing by so much good stuff. Sit down in front of your amp some time and start with moderate volume and tone and you'll find some killer tones that smoking hot with out masking the unique character of a tele.
