Man , the really good thing you really say here is that you are not your thoughts and they are from ocd and you need to ignore them. You didn't mention a thing about ERP wich is the gold standard in treating 100% the problem. I can really just stand and watch how you tell to people in comments that OCD is permanent and have to manage it for life .No way, ocd is 100% curable with ERP. I know you want to do good things for suffers but you didn't have the right tools for doing that. For everyone that is in pain please watch Ali greymond/you have ocd , Katie d'Ath, Mark Freeman video's about Ocd, Dr. Steven Phillipson and Dr Reid Willson video's about Ocd , they really give hope to people 🙏🙏🙏

Most helpful Douglas, my mom has extreme OCD. Her life is imprisoned by it. At 83, it has become almost impossible for her to get out this grove. She so needed the right therapy treatment decades ago...she feels it's too late. she refuses help from me. Her lifestyle housebound is stuck in an OCD rut. Her OCD has now created the conditions she fears most. That's the sad sad irony and outcome of her OCD. I'm going to buy that book now. Thank you 🌞🍀☀️🌞

I am really glad i have found your channel,Mr. Bloch. I am suffering from anxiety,i had panic attacks most of my life caused by a pretty rocky childhood,but i managed to overcome most of my problems,i learnt to forgive and forget. But sometimes,when i am really stressed,i still get anxious and even have some panic attacks. I found your channel because i looked for ways to stop intrusive thoughts,i have seen your video. I have never actually experienced intrusive thoughts,this is the first time and it's pretty scary. I understand that they are just thoughts and anxiety tries to bring up my worst fears. These last few days have been tough,but i think i am starting to slowly fix my brain,or so i hope. I don't think i have OCD,it's been just 4 days,i've been to therapy and there they said they are just thoughts caused my my childhood problems. These thoughts are pretty bad because they make me think i might hurt my loved ones,although i know i do not want to and it's my biggest fear. I told my partner and he fully supports me,my therapist helps too. But it's still pretty bad,to feel like this. I am hopeful i will get over this and things will get better. It looks like i can find help here too and i am really grateful. I wish you all the best!

@@DouglasBloch thank you for your suggestions! i managed to calm myself and everyday since the panic attack got better and better. I still get a little anxious,but the love around me helps a lot. I also have a strong will,i read everything i could about anxiety and thoughts these last few days and i tried meditation,i tell myself a few times a day that i am okay,i am in control and that i will get better. I got a little anxious because i wasn't that anxious anymore and then i told myself i am being silly. I also take something made out of plants(lavander and others) before i go to sleep,which helps me rest and a good night sleep really does wonders. But for real,your videos and the books you talk about helped me a lot. Thank you so much!

Hi Douglas. I love your work and am grateful for your channel. I’m quite new here and am wondering if you have any information on eating disorders co-existing with depression, Specifically which do you deal with first. It’s hard to be in an addiction and work on your poor mental health as the addiction provides comfort, however the mental health issue makes it very hard to deal with the addiction so there lies my question/confusion! Thanks for any information ✌️

In my support group I have people who are addicted to alcohol and are depressed. They work on both simultaneously, going to AA meetings and seeing a therapist and attending the group. You could do the same thing with your eating disorder. There is over eaters Anonymous and other programs out there that you can do while you were working on the depression.

I used to check what I was wearing on my way to school. Going over and over what I was wearing from my head down to my toes. During the rest of my life, I wasn't even aware if it was there. So now for years I've been on 4 different ssri's and didn't have such luck with any, ecept Paxil for 13 years. My question is, Does repeating in your head the last word (for a few seconds only) in each sentence you say, still fall under ocd? I'm so confused and wondering if ssri's are doing more damage than good. I'm thinking of just staying on clonazepam and mood stabilizer and see how it goes. Any advice? Love your channel. Thank you. I particularly like Dr. Jeffery Schwartz's approach when I obsess over someone. I realize (1) she is only one of billions of people who have lived, (2) she is a separate entity who has been walking a different path than me, far across a valley on a distant mountain and whose path has only temporarily crossed mine, and (3) my thoughts are not a reflection of reality, but only in my head, and therefore can be controlled and dismissed.

OCD comes from certain areas of the brain. When one notices that something is off, the orbital cortex lights up. This sends a signal to the cingulate gyrus which is the center of anxiety, it lights up whenever anxiety is a present reality. When the issue is addressed, a signal is then sent to the caudate nucleus which then directs the brain to relax and that its OK to think of other things. OCD occurs when the caudate nucleus is unable to shut off the signals that it gets from the cingulate gyrus in a vicious repeating loop of signals between these two areas of the brain. This is known as brain lock. One way to reprogram the caudate nucleus is to tell oneself that this is a result of a faulty wiring in the brain. Then to wait fifteen minutes before doing the OCD activity. Then increase the time to more than 15 minutes. After that time, the OCD activity will most likely be forgotten.* *source. Science of how OCD works (Dealing with brain lock). from What I've Learned. RU-vid

You say “we can only control how we react to what comes into our minds.” What’s hard about understanding that theory with having ocd is, that I would ruminate about which is the right or wrong way to react to what comes into my mind. Ocd has a lot to do with trying to find the “absolutes” in situations, which most times there isn’t, so that’s what causes the anxiety and compulsions, because it’s unsettling if you can’t.
@DouglasBloch

I've been trying to control my OCD for many years. I will try this strategy I appreciate it for him it's just that I need to exercise or if I won't I will get depressed. Difficulty in making decisions is one of the symptoms of depression. Just do the best you can and see what happens. However when it comes to making extremely important decisions such as whether to get a divorce or quit your job or move out of town, that should probably wait until the depressive episode subsides. You can talk with your counselor about this.

I hear some therapists don't recommend brain lock. The refocusing part I believe is important but the relabeling and reattributing (which to me sound like the same thing) may be too similar to reassurance. I have to do more research on this though, and ask my therapist as well

My mum's life has been ruled by her OCD for over 40years. I used to think it saved her, but now sadly it is dominating her existence and more to the detriment now she is in her 80s. I obviously won't go into any detail of her particular OCD behaviours / thinking, but for me observing, barely able to help, it is like caring for someone who's OCD leads to more 'self harm' outcomes 😿

Thank you so much Douglas❤️ I would to ask you one thing: is it possible to get rid of OCD completely? Or one can only learn how to manage it? I mean, it's like a forever thing or it can disappear for ever?
@DouglasBloch

My experience is that it’s like depression. It cannot be cured but it can be managed. There’s a medication called Luvox which I forgot to mention in this video, which can help with the cognitive behavioral therapy

Valeria B-612 please dont trust him , he doesen't know very much about Ocd. Ocd is not permanent and very curable, you just need to do the right things. The succes key is called ERP. Search as much as you can about ERP and ocd. Know here you have some youtube channels with people that really know about what are talking and they are giving hope to people :Ali greymond/you have ocd , Katie d'Ath, Mark Freeman video's about Ocd, Dr. Steven Phillipson and Dr Reid Willson video's about Ocd .Trust me , this is gold material 👍

I have a bad thought about myself and then I try to remove it from compulsive behaviour, but after it if I think about it again I have to think about the the positives before I think about the negative thought again. Or else I become a bit like am I really that person and start to dig deeper to something that is not really true. I have like weird compulsive behaviour. I have to think positive things first or I can't get rid of the negative.

my son is too far gone. He's 23 and he has chosen a trigger in our home. It's our family dog. The dog is fat and breaths loud and also drips urine around the home. He has chosen to be triggered by anything and everything to do with the dog. If he gets triggered he can get violent depending on the situation. It's been going on for awhile now but he doesn't want to get rid of the dog. We have to keep our eyes open every minute and tell him where the dog is at all times which is debilitating around here for all of us. I don't know if anyone can help him with this.

@@DouglasBloch I've always have been an obsessive person. My obsession from an early age have varied through multiple subjects. Although I was eventually able to defeat some of those demons, I am currently facing two of them in particular. One of my demon tells me that I'm gonna, "Psych myself out." Regardless of how confident I may be when performing a task, such as playing guitar or even socializing, there is a voice in the back of my head telling me I'm gonna skrew up, despite me being good at those things. Another inner demon I'm facing is one that tells me that I don't like something when in reality, I do. I could be listening to music and although I am passionate about music, the thoughts in my head tells me that it isn't true. It gets really distracting and sometimes, I start believing in those thoughts. I can understand that this is really illogical, but this issue has been crippling. Thank you and keep up the good work.

I’ve had ocd for years and I think about the intrusive thoughts I had back then that never happened. I know I’ll never act on any of them And I know this to shall pass but the thoughts /images make you feel bad so not me. not my true heart because I get involved with the thoughts. I want that “ oh yeah that shi “ attitude not omg why did I think or feel that When I do not give it attention and time passes I do see what a foolish thought it was. But I pray in the sacred name of Jesus Christ for everyone going through ocd.
