How to Get Free TV (Yes, this still works in 2024!) 

the fact that this was from 2013 and it says it still works in 2024

I live in L.A. and get 72 channels using old, broken rabbit ears into which I have placed wire coat hangers. To increase reception power, I sometimes toss my vacuum cleaner's 25 ft. long cord over the cable from the tv to the rabbit ears. The picture comes in crystal clear on my cheap, flat screen tv. Not rocket science.

This should be normal. If you don't have cable and you are using digital you would simply use an antenna just as you always have with the old analog tv's. This should come as no surprise.

if you want free TV you should get FTA satellite system. Channels are mostly in other languages, but free. If you have motorized dish you will have around 300 channels.

I used the old rabbit ear antenna and I amazingly got 38 channels, nearly all crystal clear. Thank You!!!!!!!!

I bought a 20 $ RCA flat antenna and get over 50 channels ?

I got the best one Walmart had and all I got was a couple of shopping channels and Ion!! I checked a chart for mileage and I should have been ok but I guess things are in the way which block signals!!

I dropped satellite this fall. Was paying $187 a month. Now, I use flat antenna (using RG6 coaxial cable to reduce signal loss) positioned up high on south-facing wall. Most of the TV towers are approximately 7 miles to the south of me. Get 75 channels. I also have a couple of paid streaming services.

Hahahaha. If you want to use any kind of antenna in North Central West Virginia, you better have at least a 1/4 mile of cable, because you'll have to put the antenna on top of a hill to get any signal.

I said screw it and just made my own antenna and have a problem. I get like over 400 channels but they are all in a foreign language. It seems like they are all sci fi channels and everyone is grey skinned with huge black almond shaped eyes. What I might call a travel channel is pretty cool but like I said I cant understand what these little guys are saying. I am bald and the only other thing I can think of is changing my sitting area around and using a suction cup on the top of my head with a mohu leaf. *HEEEEEEEEEEEELP*

Wow! it really works! using this method my hdtv found 153 channels. I'm here now in L.A. and local channels are working. I noticed that the picture is better and clearer than in Charter Cable

So, Kev, you spend $90 for a lot of channels in your package, but you watch only a few of them. I spend $0 for the few channels I get and I watch them all. It suits me, because all I need are local channels for the news and weather and that is it. The cable company can keep their MTVs and other garbage the have. In other words, I am not a couch potato.

I used the same extension cord expose the copper on both ends.(cut off the plugs on both ends) put the copper where cable wire goes on TV. Taped it on window and got 68 channels. NYC. No more cable. Works on every TV fkn amazing!! Or u can buy a small roll of speaker wire $3.00 works even better. Those antennas are a waste. Thank you tho. Must put TV on antenna, Not Cable Go to settings ..Hope all this helps as well as his advice. Money is tight for everyone so it's great to help save u money.

Ever since I joined the military I don't even watch tv like I used to I just have Netflix and a guy who downloads movies for me and when I go home on leave I watch tv and realize how stupid it's gotten. Really all you need to do I pay 30-50 a month for decent internet and watch tv online or other apps like hulu plus. In the end it's cheaper than cable.

I pulled the plug on cable TV in 2003 and I don't miss it. What the hell do I need cable TV for? Where I live I get 82 channels of free digital TV. That's more than enough for me. Just about everything on cable eventually ends up on the internet. I don't pay for internet either. My apartment building has complimentary Comcast Wi Fi and it's pretty decent speed. I can download a Blu ray movie converted to MP4 in about 12 minutes. It's great not having to worry about those bills.

You should call this video, “how to attach an antenna for your TV” I can’t believe I watch this thing thinking I was going to learn something.

i got a way better way u screw inn the coax and the other end of coax strip it down about 6 inches of copper stick it out your window. you will get atleast 40 channels works better than a antenna.

First get a cable, another short cable, and a 3-way splitter. Screw one cable into the tv. Screw the 3-way splitter into the end of the cable. U strip the second cable but leave the other end good, so you have one end that still has the cable nut on it and can be screwed onto the 3-way splitter. Then make the rest of the cable only have the center copper wire and about 2-3 feet long. Make it into a loop and place it into the hole on the other open bolt with the hole in it on the 3-way splitter. U now have a cable that comes out of the tv, makes a loop, and returns to ground. I am in Sacramento, California and get about 40 stations this way (three movie channels).cable tv for the inside wire.

OMG....THIS WORKED FOR ME! I got like 12 channels...ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX. Bless you sir. The antenna trick really worked for me...I've been suffering with only ABC for like months...and I never thought about trying to make an antenna. What a dumb idiot. Thank you thank you so much.

I was using an old cable cord to plug my TV directly into the wall & got a signal that way for about a week. However, today it seems like my old cable company found out and now all channels show a "Cox cable" message 😐. How did they do that? lol

I get over 900 channels and only watch maybe 30 of them at best and most of the time what is on them are re-runs... As long as I can get the basic channels who needs all the rest of the junk that does nothing but show re-runs for a month... My vizio menu doesn't have that list. I can't get tv antenna to work. It says "NO CHANNELS". Is driving me crazy. I returned my ALTICE to Optimum because they were overcharging me every month. They are CROOKS .😡

You also have to find someone to hold that Center plug against the extension cord and take turns so both of you guys can watch TV

I do a scan of the TV stations and usually get about 75 to 90 channels with an antenna. Too bad most of the channels are not in English.

I guess my cable company obviously knows this trick, because some how it's cheaper for me to get basic cable with my high-speed internet (which is all I want) than just to have internet alone, they say I get package deal if I have both.

Been trying to "cut the cord" for years....this vid did it for me. I tried his trick with a simple extension cord to see if I got any channels. I did, maybe 20. Then my big surprise, I bought a 50 dollar antenna, hooked it up, IT GETS 62 PERFECT HD PICTURE channels. I was paying right at 100 a month to charter cable for the "TV" part of the bundle.. Nothing felt better than taking 5 boxes up to the local charter office and telling the clerk to tell the CEO to stick these up his ass... Now, your not going to fall in love with all these channels, but ALL basic channels, and a few surprises are out there in clear HD mode, I I have a better picture with this, compared to my old cable... I've seriously thought about opening a side business, setting people up with free TV. One final note, if your the total couch potato, and do nothing but surf the remote all weekend, this may not be for you. We use Antenna for all local, NFL etc., and 8 dollars a month for a net flix subscription to watch movies...THANKS TO THE GUY WHO PUT UP THIS VID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One last note of interest, I am rural, live on a waterfront, expected NOTHING, but get 62 channels..Fork Cable, cut it loooose!

What worked for me is cutting the cable wire off leaving just the middle wire and placing it in a dead cable outlet. It works grate thank you so much for sharing!

I, here in Toronto Canada, get 40 free TV channels on a good day. Most are USA channels. However, I was not able to get a " Free TV ", but I did get a refurbished TV for a good price. I use an indoor antenna in combination with a 15db RF amplifier. 40 channels being picked up inside an apartment, is darn good.

Get a splitter and don't just disconnect your cable if you get something like HBO or Showtime. After going to the TV menu and checking for over air reception just run the scan and it will show how many over air antenna reception is in your location. You will get stations like ABC,NBC, CBS, and a few others. BUT remember that it all depends on how far you are from the broadcast towers. The Clear TV antenna can be got at Wal-Mart for about 14 dollars.

Someone needs to start informing the geberalpublic that there IS nO sUCH THING S A DIGITAL TRANSMISSION. All transmitted signals are analgue waveforms, which means that ANY television antenna ever made can receive "digital" television broadcasts. If you are lucky enough to have a rooftop antenna that isn't fallling apart, USE IT. You'll probably get more channels with a stronger signal than any of the back of set antennas, whch are the modern equivalent of rabbit ears.

I've tried so many amplified antennas and the only thing that works is that i stripped the outside of the coaxial cable and pulled it back and stripped the inner piece back and twisted it around the plug on a 25ft orange outdoor extension cord without the outside of cable touching and it works flawlessly, (UNBELIEVABLY WELL) I put it on a splitter and hooked another tv to it. I will use this as my antenna and hide the orange cord somewhere and purchase another cord. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Keep in mind, if you have an older set, it moght not have a bult in tuner. You'll have to go and get one.

Our local cable company is still down and no signal. We heavily rely on TV for news and entertainment special my senior citizen parents. After watching your video, i tried it. And although i was only able to find 4 channels, we are so happy because of of the channel is my mother's favorite. When she saw her favorite program tonight, she was soooo happy..Thank you so much...

we did this after hurricane Matthew knocked out out cable service for three days. you're probably not going to get all the channels you want, but we we're able to get the local news and updates on the storm, plus a couple of other channels.

how do you recommend attaching the coaxial to the extention permanently? also what should I use to cover the edges of the coaxial cable?

I've had basic TV for over 2 years now. Was paying $172/ mo for "cable bundle." I decided to politely tell my cable company to FUCK OFF and started putting $150/mo into a low cost mutual fund instead. And, after 2 years, I now have OVER $4000. ($4304 to be exact.) That translates into either college money, a new boat, two vacations, 3 mortgage payments, 11 months of groceries, yada yada yada!! Do the math. I know THIS American isn't stupid. Let's see... a new boat, paid in full in cash. Or HBO on a Tuesday night. Duh.

Lol just buy an amazon fire tv stick and load Kodi on it...everything youll ever need is right there....there will be no such thing as Sky Tv and all the rest of them because everyone will be going down the free tv route...you can also get free to air channels on Kodi...will do away with your leaf antenna...

Rrrright... an antenna and there are not much send over the waves here in europe. You better get a DVB dongle and have a bit more luck. its satelite or cable in europe these days. or some IPTV.

I don't understand, once you use the extension cord as an antenna and you program your T.V. are you done with the extension cord? So I assume once the T.V. is programmed you no longer need the cord? The coax cord you plugged into your T.V. where did you put the other end? I obviously missed something. However, I did hear you say your antenna was sitting on the chair, for no rhyme or reason. So you no longer need that either?
