John Baxter Hi would you be willing to offer some advice for my application/high school course choices? I ended up not taking any science courses in my junior and senior year (I took the general science courses in gr. 9 and 10 as part of the canadian curriculum) - I don't regret it one bit b/c that gave me the opportunity to explore the different social sciences our school had to offer, but I know that not having balanced courses and especially no sciences in junior and senior year is quite detrimental to your application. I may be a very lopsided applicant, with mostly english, art, and social science courses (I'm in a visual arts program at my hs, and would like to study art history in college/uni) but I didn't want to take science (I'm good at science in general) since I wanted to challenge myself...but I don't know if my transcript will reflect that conscious choice... (my counsellor encouraged me to take all humanities focused courses despite knowing that my reach school was Yale, which recommends a balanced course load; he said coureses in the humanities, at least in our school, are more difficult to get higher grades in, and are equally if not more challenging than the science courses) I don't know why I'm ranting about this...I think I just wanted to hear your thoughts? At the same time I'm glad I chose courses that I truly enjoyed and felt challenged in, but at the same time, I don't know if applying to Yale is realistic anymore for the sole reason of not having any science courses in Gr. 11 and 12...It's not that I want to avoid science, it's just that my school makes it mandatory for "art majors" to have 3 art courses every year, which only leaves me with few options (since I don't want to give up French or any history course I'm taking) (side note: Canadian students take gr. 11 physics, bio or chem, and they continue onto the gr. 12 course in the same science that they chose b/c it's a prerequisite. A.k.a not possible to take gr. 12 science since I didn't take any science in gr. 11)

You must be 13 now. I think you're just as smart as it takes so don't worry about it. Yale is in Connecticut (New Haven precisely). Perfect attendance does not guarantee admissions, but it definitely helps! There are dorms. Yale has a housing system quite interesting. You get randomly assigned to one of the 12 residential colleges. You can get matched with anyone, which is pretty cool. I believe the cost of attendance is $71,000, but Yale has committed to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need, without loans. It's a great school, and I'm sure you can make it!
