Most animals need a buddy or sibling--it's conceit to think you can be their everything. I had a dog that really seemed to prefer adult humans...that is, until I insisted we find him a brother. I saw the separation anxiety, and we could not take him everywhere we went. He ignored the other dog for several weeks, but he never tried to hurt it, where he had been mean to a few friends' dogs. Then one evening we got home from a day of errands, and those dogs began chasing each other around the house. They'd reverse every so often and the chase would become the chaser. They did this for hours, not wanting their dinner until late. After that, they were the best of friends. No one wants to be alone always and forever. Just let them pick their buddy. It happened with another dog, years later...he played with the new puppy for SEVEN HOURS! Stopped only for water, to go outside.
Very true! In Sweden,we have very strict laws about this. Not always good, but better to have them... the laws. Everyone needs a companion of their own kind. Thanks for pointing this out! ❤
My bird has us as friends when we are out of sight he calls us when we go down town we tell him we’re we are going and say we will be back and he’s happy we get a lovely greeting when we get home. When I was sick in hospital he stayed in the van park with hubby when I came back he was so excited to see me
@@nolajeanspiers4668 A human isn't a good replacement for another bird though. You leave to do human things (Work? Seeing friends? Getting food?), and you don't provide the understanding and kind of support another bird could provide. Having a good human friend helps, but it is important to have another bird or two around. Think - if your bird gets stressed when you're just out of sight, imagine if he had another bird there so he has someone to support him.
U are correct 50% bcz animals who are in need of help needs it But once they are grown up its better that we leave them into the wild because birds need freedom it needs its own family and not cages I love animals but animals are better off in the wild
@@Skozil180I agree that animals are best off in the wild, though humans have saved certain endangered species countless times by keeping them safely in captivity. Plus, domesticated animals wouldn’t be able to survive in the wild as they have no idea how to hunt, fend for themselves, etc.
A lady adopted a parrot from a brothel. The parrot cursed all day. Her daughter's came home from school and the parrot said: Madam, two whores . The daughters said mom.... he called us whores. The mom said that she rescued him from a whore house. When her husband walked in from work , he said to his wife..... Hey, I see you got a parrot. The parrot looked at the husband and said; Hi Ed.
The average housecat isn't gonna go after a bird that big. Those beaks and claws are sharp and the wingspan is large. Kitty is jealous, wants to fly too. I am kitty
Even if that cat were outside, I like to think they're smart enough to not fluff with a bird that size. *Especially* if they've watched those beaks crushing WALNUTS. *Kitty:* Nope; I don't care how much of a delicacy they're supposed to be. I ain't blowing THREE LIVES just for one dang birb.
I live in Brazil's capital Brasília and every single morning I see a couple of Canindé Macaws flying over my house and making their characteristic noises. I guess they're at least 30 or 40 years old and they're completely wild, because Brasília is full of trees in the residential areas so they adapted very well and not only them but there's also a third macaw, a small group of green parrots, 2 or 3 toucans and a whole family of marmosets, all which come here to my backyard to eat fruits from the trees hahaha God bless you and your babies! Much love from Brazil 🇧🇷🙌
Im from Brazil, where that macaws belong to. And i love how you take care of them, they really loves you, thank you for taking care of these babies so well! Hugs from Brazil ❤️🇧🇷❤️!!
It’s so awesome you’ve trained them for outside time, I’m sure the sun is really good for them and their world probably seems less small since they’re not always cooped up indoors all the time. You are an amazing pet parent no doubt about it ❤😊
My Granddad had an African parrot last century in the 40/50'/60/70's...when he died 1972 my Gran donated Polly (who had quite a large vocabulary) to the San Francisco Zoo Aviary Unit.
Even if I had wings, I'd prefer this lifestyle. This is a royal life for these birds 😂 Are you kidding me?! Unlimited favorite treats, protection from the outdoors, toys, cozy shelter, having 2 giant loving catering humans, and best of all, the ability to fly outside 🤗
Birds were made to fly. I love how you didn't clip their wings and allow them to fly. U obviously have a strong trusting bond with them. I wish more people knew how to create strong bonds with their birds without clipping their wings and keeping them locked in cages.
You can’t “let them have their freedom” when they are pets. They don’t have wild parrot skills and they probably aren’t anywhere near their natural habitat. They wouldn’t survive and it would be a horrible death. It’s like saying let your dog have its freedom. It’s irresponsible.
@@sagesufferswell I think people underestimate how fast a bird of prey attacks. And they attack from above. Doesn’t matter if a macaw can defend itself with a big strong beak if it doesn’t see a predator coming in the first place. Also I have seen house cats killing prey items twice their size and strength (koi fish, chickens, large lizards/snakes, etc). Never underestimate a predator’s determination.
Your neighbors must love them, our neighbor before we moved had one and she would come into our yard and just scream at our dogs, but she was funny, had an attitude too 😂. If you gave her a full walnut, she'd just look at you drop the walnut and wait till you gave her one that was already broken. That was 15 years ago. I bet she's still screaming at other dogs 😂
My macaws are suckers for pecans and walnuts too. They can't turn them down. Another thing they love is banana. They get a small piece of banana once a day and my bag hangs out right next to the doorway from the kitchen to the dining room where their cages are. She just waits right there for me to plunk it down in front of her as soon as possible. Sometimes she doesn't even eat her dinner first she just waits for her little piece of banana
@@tirelesssoul3232 you can't. they are wild animals. best you can do is take them free flying, watch for birds of prey and put a gps tracker on them. try to stay away from trees, if not be prepared to sleep under one if they decide to roost there for the night! start with recall training and when you get to 99 out of 100 recalls, you are ready for free flying.
I love when pets are actually properly trained and house free-range like this ❤ A LOT of "cage" ones can actually be trained to chill in the whole house, as most pets are pack / group species. Once they establish home is their nest and you pet-proof what you need, you just chill with them. They'll potty where you train them too, and are happy to be and explore with you.
I wish nothing more than to allow my conures to roam the house freely but unfortunately I have quite a few safety concerns. The main ones being cats, large dogs, and fish tanks. And also family members who lack self control and think that shoving their hands in the birds’ faces will help “tame them”. So I do what I can for them when I let them out in my room-usually twice a day, 2-3 hours each time.
@@lumini3172 For sure - a home is a habitat for humans not animals really, so it is a bit of work to animal and lol family-proof it - well at least the animal's space. We can never give them full range like in nature (rats can live in mile long networks lol,) but its usually just more space than a cage / small room thats enough. Quite sweetly, they're happy to just be near you. My rats never went more than 10-15ft from me ❤️ humans are like the parent / leader so once they get an idea of boundaries (no chewing the house or using their cage to waste,) they just, hang out lol.
I always try to train my oldest parakeet to come out from my room and go around the house, he hates leaving the room and flies back every time you try to take him out
Human: * Shows Mia a wallnut * Mia: "Oh you have walnut? okeydoke!" Human: * Shows Mikey a wallnut * Mikey: "Let me think about it for a moment... okay."
Agree💯💯💯My Avian Vet has advised me never to do this as we have a hugh amount of hawks in NH where I live .They explained that they can swoop down in a heartbeat and grab a bird in a heartbeat.
Barbnbirds....I had a chihuahua puppy I'd turn loose in a huge soccer field. I told my older lady friend about the zoomies outside. She said aren't you afraid a hawk will get her? I said no,thinking she was nuts. Well I was at my apartment a few weeks later and had her out by the front door. And an enormous bird, waaay bigger than a hawk dropped down with a noise 6 feet away. It saw me and flew away as soon as it hit the ground. I called my friend and apologized for thinking she was nuts. I put my puppy permanently on a leash when I took her outdoors after that.. never knew this could happen. Scarred me for life.
@@Pupchipp thank goodness your dog is safe. My friend had a little Quaker parrot that flew out of her window. She actually saw a hawk grab it in mid air and fly away with it.She had a nervous breakdown afterwards. I repeat, so glad your little dog is safe 🙏.
@@PupchippI use to raise puppies and didn't let them out alone. I would only let a couple out with me at a time and when I seen birds of prey I took them in. At some point, I brought a kennel that a bird couldn't enter! Just think a chihuahua is no bigger than some rabbits and other animals that get scooped up and eaten.
My neighbor's son was feeding a blue jay he'd gotten to know when a hawk swooped down right in front of him and snatched the blue jay. Really shook them up. This is a busy corner, lotsa traffic, and the hawk came out of nowhere to grab that poor bird by their front door....
Heard an avian vet say if you can get a bird to look at you as an equal you've accomplished something special. Trust is a different thing when your pet is prey.
I want a bird so bad but I know they’re a lot and I just can’t with a dog and 5 year old who wants a cat . I can’t wait for the day I can have my bird though. I’ll just keep taking in the injured ones after the hurricanes when the vet is closed until then. Lol.
Sweet until this is your neighbor lol. I lived next to someone with a macaw that they left outside everyday. My other neighbors took them to court just for the noise and they were ordered to have it indoors at all times.
They were like I don’t want to come in but I really want that walnut. How could I get away with it so they’re planning for next time what they’re gonna do about it to get the walnut and fly away lol lol I hope not.
I always wonder how the neighbors like the big ol birdies flying around. Our neighbor has a macaw and we love him, but a few other neighbors complain constantly. Maybe it's because we're in the US
