You can propagate Zinnias just like basil and mint! The stems you cut can be placed in water and will develop roots! You can then plant in soil. Free Zinnia plants. Zinnias grow quickly, most are 30 days to first bloom. Incredible, beautiful, resilient flower.

@@monas Yay! There are several videos on YT, but if you've propagated basil or mint in water or soil, it's identical. Good luck!

Thanks for the video I enjoyed watching. This my first year starting Zinnias by seed, I’m glad to know that the ones started from seed are the better choice.

After I found out that zinnias are generally only 30 days from seed to bloom this summer, I planted a patch of them on August 4th, never expecting them to actually bloom before it got too cold (Michigan). I'll be darned...they've been blooming since early September. We haven't had a hard freeze yet (6a). I'm going to cut a bouquet tomorrow, November 8th. I can't believe it. They're a gorgeous flower/plant. I'm going crazy with them next summer

I'm in Michigan zone 6b and planted seeds in the beginning of June and the beginning of July, took about 40 days for the first flowers to appear and I would have had blooms even longer if we didn't get hit by frost in the beginning of October. I did save a lot of seeds from last year and am continuing to purchase seeds on Ebay.

@@MJ-cc4uf We had some light frosts here as well...but when I knew that it was coming...I threw an old bed sheet over them the night before. That's why I still had blooms in November

Super helpful video! I will be growing zinnias from seed this year for the first time and will plan to prune them as they bloom (something I wouldn't have done on my own, so thanks!). Thanks again!

I just started a bee garden in April. I have sown the seeds for thr fall bloomers, and a bunch of Zinnias are growing. I will definitely try pinching some of them back. I have enough for a control group, enough to clip, and enough to pinch back. Thanks for the tips!

Your advice about growing from seed instead of plants from the nursery may answer a problem I had this spring! The ones I bought soon developed crispy brown leaves and I could not find any answers why (I'm in west Texas where's hot and dry but I watered them well). Now they have healthy leaves and I wonder if they had to outgrow the synthetic fertilizer effects. The ones I grew from seeds never had the issue.

I'm a new gardener and so glad a friend shared your channel with me! I've grown zinnias from seed for the first time and absolutely adore them! Unfortunately so do the goldfinches. I have tried spraying them with peppermint water and also tying thin strips of aluminium foil to them but nothing is helping. We have a lot of rats and squirrels so I am hesitant to put out bird seed as I doubt the birds will get any and I do not want to attract more rodents. Is there something else I can try?

2nd year trying to grow zinnias. I am in the progress of making 2 new semi larger zinnias beds. I've had plastic cover over the area I want the new beds to be. I'm shoving the grass out of beds. What kind of dirt do I need to put with the ground dirt. I need something. Last year the zinnias stems were flimsy, so what or how to I make them stronger? I thinking from th we video to start pruning when they get taller. 6 inches or maybe taller. Help please. Times like this I wish my mom was still with us she would tell.me how or what to do. She had beautiful flower beds. Thank you in advance.

I have started my zinnias from seed this year. Every time right before they are getting ready to bloom, I get something that’s eating my leaves. I treated them with a home remedy for aphids or whatever may be eating the leaves because I see some light brown eggs on them, using water, baking soda and a little bit of Dawn dish soap, and now some of the leaves are curled up and brown…needless to say, I’m sad about it. What would you recommend I use? Thank you for sharing your video. So appreciate your help.

Well maybe you have to wait for it get more blooms, right? I'm sure a bunch of flowers will attract a bunch of pollinators. Cutting the base stem of a bloom will encourage the plant to grow more stem, leaves, and buds. You should watch more tutorials ☺

I have a horrible problem with my veggies being eaten by birds, my jalapeños and tomatoes are being picked. I placed a garden cover over them and problem has been solved. So, my question is, if I place a garden cover over my veggies, then I’m also stopping the bees and other pollinators from reaching my veggies. Do you have problems with your plants being picked off by the birds?
@GardenMinistry.
@GardenMinistry. 4 года назад
I'm a garden amateur but what I've learned is that if birds are eating your tomato's it's because they are thirsty/hungry. So leave a bowl of water out or bird feeder out for them and it'll help. If you do use a cover for your veggies that need pollination inorder to fruit (like tomato's or squash) you can self pollinate, it's more work for you so I wouldn't use covers on those if I could help it.

I had the same problem, so I put a feeder with bird food/seeds and a bird bath, now everyone is happy 🌈
