IDk if I'm looking at something different on MSI Afterburner(I don't have Wattman cause I don't have a 400 series AMD card - I have an R9 280), but there is nothing in the MSI Afterburner settings that allows you to prioritize temperature target or power target.

I plan to follow these steps to first get an idea of where my 3GB MSI Gaming X will go before manually OCing. You should make another video though of how to set an optimal custom fan curve in Nvidia & AMD's latest GPU's.

After searching for a couple of weeks, couldn't get BG1 to run a constant 60 fps at medium (6600 I5, GTX 970, 16 GIg ram) did this and a little core oc (150 plus) and can now run BF at 60 fps on high. So glad I came across this! Thanks Jay!

Can you use the EVGA OC with a MSI graphics card (NVIDIA) or are you limited to the MSI OC?

Great video but two things Jayz missed: 1. Replacing the stick TIM with high performance TIM will yield you 4-10*C cooler temps across all brands, reference and non-reference coolers; 2. Cooling CAN make a difference to total TDP used. IE. if you watercooling the GPU like many of us do, you don't need all that wattage used-up to drive the fans, subtracting from the total GPU TDP as our water pump off the mobo is a separate power draw. :) This will give you more amperage towards a higher boost clock available in order to top out TDP.

hi. ive got a question. i have a gtx 1060 from msi. i have overclocked the thing with 100Mhz. only when i increase the max power and temperature, games crashes once in a while. and on top of that, i dont even reach the power limit with playing games. can you give me some advise? thanks!!!!

i have a 1080 aswell, but isn't it bad to fully load the fans ? Like when you have a 4 hour game session. and the fans rotating at a full 100% all the time.. it will be bad over time, right ? Mine is at top 83 celcius with stock settings and i never have fps issues. Is it even worth it then ?

I know this is an old video but why does mine gpu clock say 1632mhz gpu clock when im not using it and his says 139mhz is that just my card (i have a 1060) or is it something else. Just curious?

i have a gigabyte windforce r9 380x and the fans spin but only for maybe 30 seconds or so, then they stop and the light come on saying "stop" to indicate the fans have stopped, then they start again after a minute or so... this is what i would expect from desktop use but while playing arma on "very high" setting it also does it, is it normal to have this happen ? i cannot return the card because i had to wait a few weeks before i could install it as my pc was still being built at the time so i wasnt aware this was an issue untill some weeks after and also cannot afford a new one so any help is appeciated

Dont overclock,up the power limit and temperature threshold and spin the fan faster so you let the GPU overclock itself. This is good when you are about to sell your GPU you can say you never overcloked the GPU.

What if a video card used for flt sim starts at factory oc , but drops to almost half within minutes of starting the game? EVGA 1070Ti runs at 68C max. Runs at full oc with Heaven 4 benchmark and others for entire time.

If I was running SLI would both cards change the power target/temp target/etc. at the same time? or would I have to change the setting for each one individually?

But... That IS overclocking, actually! Right?!? You allow the card to "take" more power (basically increases its voltage), and increases frequency___> THAT'S overclocking! So, only difference is that in this case software does all the work, you don't need to adjust things manually and worry about overstepping the boundaries of power/temperature! This is only easier and mostly safer way of overclocking.

I know you were comparing tweaked versus no-tweaking, but it would be interesting to see the fan curve changed independently of the voltage/temp max tweak.

Umm... My RX 470 is drawing almost 130 watts under absolute 100% full load when overclocked and it doesn't try to slow down. It goes to 1350 MHz and stays there, no matter what. When it gets up to that 120+ watt area, the entire system becomes unstable and the graphics card crashed numerous times resulting in pink and green screens, and requiring me to actually flip the switch on my 550 watt corsair cxm power supply and hard restart the system. What should I do?

Hey Jay I know this is an old video but hopefully you it someone can ansomy question. Fairly new to pc gaming , got a rig with a Asus Nvida gtx 1080ti it’s the turbo with 1582 MHz Boost Clock (OC Mode) featuring 11GB GDDR5X 352-bit memory, 3584 CUDA cores, and 11GB Frame Buffer. Any way all I have done so far is boost the voltage limit to max (120) and temp to (92) like shown in video. Question is did just that change allow my GPU to run at 1848? I notice when playing the Witcher 3 1080p I will be locked at 60fps clock will be 1848, usage is low 90’s and temps low 60’s. Is 1848 a good boost or can this card go higher? Just wondering because I got a new Asus z35p and will be wanting to stay at 60+ at 3440x1440?
