Be organized! The more organized leadership is the better the experience for musicians.

I'm 17 and I play drums. I've been playing in the church since I was12. I started learning guitar and am playing guitar when needed. You can get a musician that you already have learning guitar in no time.

Can you do a video about balancing acoustic and electric instruments in a sanctuary with loud natural acoustics and how to work with a sanctuary that's not laid out well for a band?
@Rhett-Christopher
@Rhett-Christopher 6 лет назад
That's a complicated answer. In a nutshell - it's going to cost some money and you'll soon find out whether your church values live music by the amount of money they want to spend on upgrading their sanctuary to accommodate your live band.

Haha I actually stopped playing for years. One day my friend went "here is my spare guitar', shoved it in my hand and said that I am playing the next day!

Lol, that sort of happened to me. I would play guitar at home on my own, but not on an official worship team. (And I had not done so since youth group, years ago). One day, my friend who led worship at our church was over, he saw all my guitars on the wall at my house. We were just messing around on the guitars and playing some songs we liked. The next thing I knew, he said "You are playing bass on Sunday. We have no bass player at our church and we need one..." I was like, "Well the problem is I've never touched a bass, I just play acoustic for fun at home." And he reminded me that today was Wednesday and that gives me four days to learn. After four days of no sleep, lots of practice, and many youtube videos, I played bass on Sunday and never looked back. I would have never started had someone not asked me (or ordered me). I had no confidence in being able to play at church, and this would have never happened if I were not asked. It turns out that is was a good fit and I love having the chance to worship God with my instrument.

Thanks guys, great idea for a video. Have you guys ever utilized this as an "outreach" and then disciple them after salvation? How do you think that would work, if at all? Im sure people have tried it just wondered if it was a train wreck or opportunity. We are a smaller church and we have someone to lead singing; piano player, and I get to play guitar occasionally (I'm the associate/youth pastor so I have many obligations sunday mornings). Our senior pastor and I would like to get an "worship team" but there aren't enough musicians to utilize in the church and the 2 youth that could are way to shy.
@brianmichaelfuller
@brianmichaelfuller 6 лет назад
I know many music pastors who have taken this approach with great success! You just have to have clear goals and define what a “win” is before you go down that road. Also make sure the senior pastor is on board with this approach!!!

do you do audition for musicians and singers?
@david_ha
@david_ha 6 лет назад
Same question -- particularly for people who are already in the ministry. What kind of process do you go through especially when there are limited spots but more than one volunteers? What do you say if they want to be vocalists but you realize that they cannot really sing? Or musicians who cannot really play, but you don't have enough resources to train them?
@brianmichaelfuller
@brianmichaelfuller 6 лет назад
Yes absolutely! This is a great idea for another video. The audition process and the on boarding process is very important we will make sure to cover this in the future Video!

I would make sure they are a believer and a member of your church. That's just my take on it though.
@ronydc
@ronydc 6 лет назад
Yes. I agree. Worship ministry is a pulpit ministry, and so for us in India we have to be careful of who is on stage coz apart from a Sunday, how they are doing life speaks a lot. It's humbling to be aware that the church looks to the worship team as role models (since it is a pulpit ministry). Would love to know more on your views on this.

Amen brother. I know of a few churches in my surrounding area that have had unbelievers play worship on the Lord's Day and from non like-minded churches and I think that can be very confusing to other believers and members of your congregation.

There are 3 guitar (including one electric) players, one bass player, 3 singers and 1 drummer in the worship team that I lead. The problems is we don’t have enough drummers when our only drummer doesn’t arrive on time. How can I find a drummer since it’s difficult to find one who wants to play, is good and loves God to do it?
@markharrell
@markharrell 6 лет назад
Get a Beatbuddy from Singular Sound. It is a great alternative when you don't have a drummer. We use it every Sunday because we do not have a drummer at the moment. They have the best customer service also.

Wouldn’t you want to find musicians in the church with a love and desire to serve in ministry? Rather than just random players at stores/schools?
@worshiptutorials
@worshiptutorials 6 лет назад
Daniel Bell hey Daniel - absolutely. That’s why our first point was to ask and connect with people already in your church.

Also depends on your church philosophy/Mission... some churches use their musical ministry as an evangelistic tool! Depends on your aporoach. But a long standing debate for sure!
@onevoiceinc
@onevoiceinc 4 года назад
Also depends on the available musicians (if any) and how overworked the existing ones are sometimes.

If you know the CAGED sequence, it's based around a major 7 arpeggio in the E shape of the root key. It literally and directly follows the chord shape. You'll find that a majority of 'hook line' lead shapes (especially in worship arts) follow chord shapes (if they're even that complex). So with even the most basic theory, you'll be able to jump in and figure out the lead shapes with a quick glance. If you were learning jazz fusion, progressive rock, or styles like that, there are more complex ideas going on (like modal changes and things of that nature)... but with general worship arts and a large majority of pop music, it will deal with either one of two scales (major or minor) and four chords (the first, the fourth, the fifth, and the sixth chords of whatever scale/key you're playing) with very VERY simple shapes. With a little understanding of the CAGED sequence and maybe learning the Nashville number system, it becomes super easy to figure out songs in minutes. Or even seconds. I can't remember the last time it took me more than ten minutes to learn any worship song from start to finish. So be encouraged, there's a method to being able to learn songs on the fly. Double that for PDubz songs.

Does it matter if people are not Christian? If I go at the local music store there is no chance I am gonna meet Christians (I don't live in the music store)
