Great video! love how you worked with a super energetic and distracted puppy! makes it allot more relatable and helpful compared to videos where the dog is already conditioned and doing everything flawlessly.

My gsp is almost 5 months old. I didn’t realize what I was getting myself into. I figured my family is very active! My husband bikes and I enjoy running everyday. This will work out! We have a 2 year old and surprisingly my puppy listens more than my toddler. Lol Thank you for this video and your channel in general .

It sounds like you have everything under control! My dog was definitely easier to train than the kiddo, especially potty training!!

Wow you guys are amazing!!! I have a 12 week old GSP named Gunner and I’ve been trying your training tips and methods without a collar or clicker and they are working pretty well, though I know the collar would help they are a bit pricey so we are trying it without and right now he does well but the duration is a little bit harder to accomplish! I will try and invest in a collar but thank you guys so much for the videos they are all so helpful!!

This video is exactly what we needed at the moment. Benny is the same age as Thunder and we have been trying to figure out how to keep him on his bed longer. The counter surfing, getting into mischief and jumping on people and things is out of control. We had already introduced the nick feature on the collar for recall and it worked like a charm to get him back to the dog bed. By the end of the training he was looking at me waiting to be released rather than getting off on his own.

We have been trying to teach our 5 month lab to not snatch food from the kids, counter surf, et cetera with corrections. Sending him to his bed is already working as an alternative to the off command. Today we will begin lengthening the time he can stay on the bed. Thank you!

Great intro to cc on place training. When he is ready I would be interested to see how you can increase distance to send him to the bed. E.g. outside like 10 meters or so distance.

Love seeing his updates! I don’t know if you’ve addressed it before, but what size bed are you typically using for your dogs?

Great video. Helps a ton but I’m curious how much time you expect your dogs to be on their bed in a typical day? My GSP is about the same age as Thunder. She does really well staying on her bed during dinner however during other parts of the day when we are home and she is out of her crate she is quite rambunctious in the house. Place training will definitely help but how much time is appropriate? Are your dogs always on their beds when not crated?

My pup is cowars by my legs if ever I try and use the vibrate for recall or place training. Its not on a very high setting but she pretty much won't do anything if she feels a vibrate. After that it takes her a while to work up the confidence to walk around again. I'm a bit stuck on this as she's almost 6 months and I want to start formal training before duck season comes around.
@ronm2340
@ronm2340 2 года назад
When you introduced the stimulation after vibrate did you use the nick button or continuous button until he puts all four paws on the dog bed? Also is the vibrate button a nick or continuous feature of the collar?

We are putting in a electric fence. Talking to the representative he recommended to only use collar conditioning in the field and not at home. Any thoughts or advice for a new dog owner?

Dumb question that I’m sure you already answered, but I couldn’t find it. If I am at another persons house should I be able to give the kennel command and point to a couch, or another dog bed, or even a place on the floor and expect the dog to have the same behavior? Or does this only work with a dog bed or crate that the dog is used to? Thank you for all the help with my gsp, he’s my first dog and a wild one at that lol.

You mentioned that the nick setting that works for Thunder is 7. Is that 7 of 10 or 7 of 100?

Well the use of the word “Kennel” confuse the dog between his actual kennel (crate) that it uses to sleep in?

Is there a specific reason you guys don't use a "stay" command? Or does the release command "ok" eliminate the need for that?
@VogeljagerGunDogs
@VogeljagerGunDogs 3 года назад
Don't quote me, but I think they use that because they also use the cue "okay" to release from alot of other things (release from heel/getting out of a crate/releasing from whoa/etc) so the dog learns early to remain doing the cue they are given (like "kennel" or "whoa") until they are released with "okay".
@annieholm4598
@annieholm4598 3 года назад
@@VogeljagerGunDogs That's helpful thank you! I just couldn't remember if I've seen them use a command of "stay" before in other videos. I don't have hunting dogs, but I find "stay" a useful command to have when out and about somewhere new and I want the dog to stay put somewhere they've never seen before!
@USAFTACP
@USAFTACP 3 года назад
@@annieholm4598 sit and stay aren't really used for pointing breeds. It's more of a retriever cue for water fowl/migratory bird hunting. Sit is taught but it's a quick lesson and not something that collar conditioned as it causes issues later on in training.
@StandingStoneKennels

I've tried several times to make a comment and am too upset. If people wouldn't buy dog breeds appropriate for their lives, they wouldn't have so many problems. And who wants to force their dog to stay on their bed. Seems completely cruel. In the wrong hands, I can't imagine how horrible this is for the animal. All the facing names and words for -- giving your dog electrical shocks till they sit on a 2X3 spot.
