Decoding Reznor’s music charm didn’t degrade the myth, quite the opposite. Applying his technique to your own song, created a true inspiring force for all of us - bedroom producers! Wrapping everything up in your genius retro, almost satiric-ish ‘music video clip’, lifts up all the reznor-seriousness, to leave us with a unique sense of possibility and hope. Thank you for your great work!

As far as production quality and techniques there is everything up to and including The Fragile and everything after The Fragile. Pre Fragile was pain staking and experimental. Post Fragile is more structured and polished. I blame Atticus Ross no offense to him but ever since With Teeth he's been the one recording and arranging tracks while Trent basically jams on different instruments. I definitely prefer when Trent isolated and did most of it himself over the course of 2 years even though i know it wasn't exactly healthy for him.

Nine Inch Nails is the reason I’m a multi instrumentalist and writer. From Fugazi to QOTSA to Primus to The Beatles to Bowie and so many other musical legends. But Nine Inch Nails have been my 95%. And I still don’t know all of his work. It’s nature rather than nurture with TR. I play drums…I could play a NIN gig but Rubin is staggering. Nuclear Rubin is what I had in my mind last time I saw NIN in London. Lights were too bright for me though. I can play NIN songs on piano and guitar including a blues style version of Hurt played in the correct key (B) and also playing the high note in the verse…something RF doesn’t do. But he is NIN too. Bass, rhythm and lead aren’t too challenging. It’s the songs isn’t it. The writing is genius at a constant genius level. Even The Beatles ran out of juice. TR is still hitting those highest places almost every time. Erase the word “Almost”. I can’t think of a song of his that isn’t perfectly created. I don’t like every NIN song but they’re always perfect regarding mixing and production. Brilliant upload bu the way mate. TR always gets the darkness in his work. That is so fucking difficult to do. I use a omnisohere inside Bitwig with Soundtoys 5 effect rack, Reason Rack and some Izotope plug ins. Stunning products. The I.T guys who design these plug ins are the new ground breakers to me. The real pop stars me thinks too.

Very respectable taste you got there my friend! NIN (well Trent, basically) is the reason why I as a youngster decided to expand my knowledge from guitar to piano, bass, synths + modular and also learning recording, mixing and the overall production side of things. Seeing NIN live was also something I’ll cherish as one of my TOP3 musical experiences for the rest of my days and I’m 100% sure it won’t change as their stuff is timeless. Very futuristic, yet familiar like it’s been a classic for more than 40+ yrs.
@jamisbillson4872
@jamisbillson4872 2 года назад
@@miomimomiro hi mate. Long story but I had tickets to go see NIN in Cornwall (Eden project) for last Friday. Because the person I was going with is a liar it turned out that I couldn’t afford the petrol to get there and back home…about 700 miles. So I wasted £150 on two tickets…that the liar still hasn’t paid for. And maybe I’ve lost the chance to see NIN for possibly the last time? Do I forgive my neighbour? I gave him so many chances to tell me how it is with him but he lied. Repeatedly. I’m devastated to have missed NIN. And because I didn’t think this would happen I then didn’t get tickets for their London gig at Brixton Academy…which is tonight. What DAW and plug ins do you use? I’m Bitwig, Reason Rack, Omnisphere and many Izotope VSTs. We are lucky these days aren’t we. The things we can do now compared to just 10 years ago are insane.

Excellent work! Sounds pretty close to Hesitation Marks era. On my opinion the only thing which Trent would have done in a different way - is a structure of the song. What Trent would probably do - is delay the chorus and do the second verse right after the first one, introducing more instruments to the arrangement. And only then there'd be a chorus part. Trent likes to keep the tension...

I completely disagree about that thought about "they never resolve". What you said about their rhythm is called "Polyrhythm" and they do resolve. Contrast to a 4/4 beats they actually don't resolved and always hang because there is no tension. Great case study will be Indian music rhythms since they are the masters at doing complex structure rhythms and do them naturally, they put a great emphasis on tension and release. Search for Konnakol concepts to understand more about what I'm trying to articulate and watch for their logic in the structure. Since it would take me forever to explain on one comment. (Note I'm speaking just rhythm not harmony in my comment.)
@kortkunig2291
@kortkunig2291 4 года назад
I would have loved if you went more into the inclusion of noise with distortion on gated intruments with overdrive and fuzz. And also the delay like you have in the intro. But I your version of a Nine inch nails song is also good. A bit too clean for my taste, but that's also what the music changed to past 1999. Captures the rythmic ambivalence very good, even though it's less like a waterfall for me, more like a forward motion, towards the chorus. The song itself resolves also instead of decomposing (like a downward spiral if you will). There's also a lot of ambient sounds on the old albums made from looped feedback and resonating delays of static pedals, filtered ambulance noises, sampled saws, quite precise detuning etc. going on. But again: it's hard to say "this is the definitive sound all of Trent Reznors mindscapes have common". And I think you captured a lot of the more recent stuff very well. Edit: I took the time to go through the albums again quickly and noticed I was wrong. There's a lot of songs I forgot about and the whole style is rather fluent.

This was definitely closer to Exotic Birds era Trent, IMO. But still very cool to watch. Some things you might dive into if you make another one of these vids is most of Trent’s drums and percussion and bass are generally very heavily compressed and distorted, distortion likely on the front end of the chain. And everything else is drenched in reverb. lol, I know, I’m being hyperbolic but I was expecting a crunchier sound. Otherwise loved the vid and have I subscribed. Don’t mind my criticisms, I’m just an idiot on the internet.😅 -idiot on the internet.
