@Skibbity Bop This week, I went from C- to B to A without losing a single game in Clam Blitz. The same happened in Rainmaker except I lost twice in B. However, Tower Control was the same as Rainmaker except it didn’t let me skip and sent me to B+ from B. Then I had 5 3v4 games out of 10 (didn’t count against me, won one). Then I got a meter crack with the rank bar only half-filled. B rank is pretty luck-based, so you must have pretty bad luck (like me in Tower Control). However, if you really do get 15+ kills every game, you should probably have 3 glass cracks max in B. Ranked is pretty unfair, especially in the low ranks where there are a few smurfs who are Top 500 or used to be. Just pray to your deity or manifest great luck is the best advice I can give. Also, practice with friends who are slightly better than you or around your skill. Btw I used to be X in RM and S+ in other modes 4 yrs ago (except Clams I think, was probs A+ or S) until I lost my cloud save due to an unfixable switch problem that Nintendo couldn’t fix :)

What does Smurfing mean

@@necrobyte7451 The story goes that, back in the 90s, there were these Warcraft II players that everyone would quit out against because they were so good that, upon recognizing their names, their opponents would just disconnect. Getting tired of this, they made second accounts under the names "Papa Smurf" and "Smurfette" and started off games by sandbagging but then flipped the switch, played their best, and won anyway. Since then, a secondary account, usually at a lower MMR than the main account, that a player makes under a different name is called a "smurf" account.

Thank you for your honesty. I responded to the Reddit post there, but I'll say a little bit on this comment too. Something I discuss in the previous video in the series that I wish I had repeated a little more in future videos is that I don't want anyone to feel like they need to play this game with the intention of improving. This video is a resource to help people who are trying to improve, but not everyone is trying to improve, and that's okay! Never let anyone make you feel like you're wrong for enjoying the game differently. If you are really interested in improving and just feel like you aren't good enough, I'm going to tell you that I think anyone can hit X rank if they're willing to put the time in to do it. It takes some people longer than others, but I do think it's just a matter of time, mental energy, and finding the right resources to get there, not that anyone is limited by how naturally talented they are. I would go so far as to offer one-on-one advice sometime if you want to make progress and feel discouraged, because I want you to have the confidence in yourself that I have in you.

@@SquidSchool I couldn't find your reply on reddit, so I'll respond here. I would definitely love to improve. A lot of people try to say things like "it's not important to rank up" or "who cares if you fall in rank, it doesn't matter", but that kind of exacerbates things when I've put literal years into something, but seeing no signs of improvement. I can point to other aspects of my life (work, music, etcetera) where time and effort have shown an increase in skill. I can even say that about other games! But Splatoon kind of means a lot to me because of how much I love the game. I can't lie, it kind of crushed me to find out that I was way further behind than I once thought. Honestly, you seem really cool and your videos feel like there's genuinely good intentions behind them. It just kind of backfired with me 😅

Dude, You will hate me for saying this but I was almost responding with that same thing.... but it is because it worked for me. Many months ago I accepted that I was going to get stuck in A and I will just enjoy ranked mode because I really enjoy this mode. Suddenly I am on S+ rank and I don´t really care if I rank up or down. It is worse, I am bad at this game somewhat managed to get to X rank on rainmaker with an average of 3 splats per game and just carrying the rainmaker and try to sneak to the enemy base. I ranked down righfully to S+ rank but I felt happy because all the lols of the absurdity of my situation. But I will say one thing. I miss the days I were on B and A rank. People there makes a lot of funny mistakes and FAILS and some times it is really fun to watch. From S+ onward mistakes can easily cost games and it is not fun. I consider more fun the ranked mode on B an A. But I cannot back and I will just remember the good old days and have nostalgia about it. On S+ rank players punish any of your mistakes. Recomendations? I have none. Maybe have fun; it is what I feel the game is about. If you find more fun on other areas, then go for it. I feel like this video can really be discouraging because it is from a competitive mindset; and it sometimes feels like you always must be competitive. When I play I play competitive but I don´t give a dam about being competitive; I always look for the fun stuff. Example, I am a sploosh main and sometimes there are a glorious opportunity when I manage to get behind a sniper without being noticed: If I were being competitive I just splat them, BUT IT IS NOT FUN; What I do is to get to one side of them and see how they react, and they usually swim away and throw a bomb to get cover; I inmediatly proceed to pursue but not splat; If I get even luckier, the sniper will get somewhere without ink on the floor and it will be on a desperate situation; If they start to fast shoot then I swim around them for the LOLS and maybe to get a personal record of 3 loops around them that I have (I almost got 4 some time ago). There were one time some sniper begged for his live by squidbaging me. It is always fun and It is really what I remember when I play this game. Winning by being good? Nah, it is overrated. Winning some matches on rainmaker with the fewest splat count and just sneak the rainmaker to the enemy base? That is the best feeling and I always get the LOLS because I somehow get a win by my teammates carrying me but I don´t care because I had fun (LOL I guess they must hate me XD). Ok. Sorry for the long text and bother you with that. I really feel you when you say you get fustrated but I really don´t know what to tell you to get you in a better situation, I really don´t. Just..... The dumb decision was that my team got wiped on humpback and as the rainmaker I tried to run via the rail but little did I know it doesn't reset the point until I touch the ground so I just gave em up to 19 points which ended the game

However, I have a funny oddity in zones is that I have an s+2(about to drop tch) because I use explosher and get carried. Although I don't main any shooters, the vid is still relatively useful for a general audience. Great job. Edit: just got s in tower

At this level it's rare to see chargers at all, so the tips in the earlier videos are based largely on short and mid-range weapons. I also happen to play frontline, so my knowledge of backline weapons is a little more limited, and that probably comes out in the tips that I focused on. Chargers play very differently. Instead of taking fights up close where you need to be throwing someone's aim off, you're going to play the neutral game some combination of further back, higher up, and behind cover where it's hard for anyone to get to you. Rather than being a moving target, you're aiming to almost never be a target at all. Chargers can actually move around decently quickly, but when they start charging a shot it's a big commitment, so it's important to use cover to hide your position and the fact that you're charging a shot before you peek out to fire it. If someone does get on top of you, you might be able to get a shot off if you have cover to charge behind, but otherwise the best you can usually do is run away and drop a bomb at your feet in the place where it will most impede your opponent from chasing you. If they're damaged already, you might be able to finish the fight with a tap shot or two, but if you have to fire more than 2 or 3 of them you're probably giving them enough time to splat you even if you hit them first. I personally think chargers are perfectly viable and just about always have been. They're hard because if you're missing most of your shots you're barely having any impact on the game, but a charger that's hitting shots locks down half the map and forces the whole enemy team to play differently to get anything done.

Motion controls are by far better than stick aim. It's not even close. The only reasons to use sticks are if you get motion sickness/have a physical disability that prevent you from using motion or if you just don't care that much about improving (which is valid). Motion is faster and also more precise. I use max sensitivity, which I think is important especially for short range weapons. Opinions vary for longer range weapons; I still think max sens is optimal but some chargers like lower sensitivities for hitting longer range shots. I wouldn't go below maybe +1 or +2 on any weapon.

Firstly, try your best not to worry about your teammates' impact. Sometimes they'll do the right thing, sometimes they won't, it's functionally RNG for you and since there's nothing you can do about it, don't let it affect you, especially negatively. Regarding the modes, there's a lot to talk about in two whole game modes and RU-vid comments may not be the best way to go about it. There's a big gap between B and A; a lot of people have to learn a bit and practice a bit more to make the jump, and then again between S+ and X

it's been a month since you commented, but i reccomend spamming specials yourself. i mean, if you can't beat em, join em. (coming from a person who used to hate missiles but now happily mains wiper deco)

My understanding (and y'all can correct me if I'm wrong) is that even before it begins showing you your X power, the game still does matchmaking using the Glicko system, where yes, you may end up in a lobby with an S+9 player, but the average rating of their team will still be the same as your team's average, so in theory it should be a pretty fair fight. Maybe their teammates will be weaker and you'll have some ringers on your team. Otherwise, games you play in S+0 would feel exactly as difficult as games you play in S+9, and that's definitely not the case from my experience.

@@SquidSchool I think that’s correct, but there could be people in s+0 that get carried all the way to s+9, then they’re interpreted by the team making system as s+9, even though they have the skill of an s+0. One could argue that while carrying they could still get better, but they’d probably still end up at an s+3-4 level. This is the same for those people who play ranked hop scotch, where they skip from s to s+9, even though they may still be s+6 or below in skill. Granted that rank skipping thing is good for people who deserve it, but for people who deserve it and don’t get it(I didn’t skip a single s+ rank, and I only lost 3 times in my entire s+ zones grind) it’s annoying since they have to invest hours on end for something that some people got in literal seconds

from S to S+ is either the first or second hardest rank to jump just after B to A but I feel like it is because of a different reason. When I was on B and jumped to A I really struggled and got back and forth many times but maybe it was because I was still geting used to the mechanics of the game and still discovering things on the stages. Now the jump from S to S+ it really feels hard but I think it has more to do with skills. I think that players from S rank know very well the mechanics of the game, the movement and the maps but players on S+ rank are better because they make less mistakes. I remember the change but I just felt like it was only matter of skills. Based on that, I agree that the jump from S to S+ might be the hardest. Now I am in a very interesting situation and I don´t know if you would believe me. I am struggling to mantain S+0 rank on tower control. Some times I downgrade to S and then I get to S+0 so I really feel the difference there. Now the strange part: I am on S+9 rank on rainmaker, and just yesterday I was on X rank, and Oh Boy, I really felt the difference from S+9 rank and X. I almost remembered the same from S to S+. In X rank people gets coordinated most of the times, inmediate advantage from 2vs1 are second nature to these players and no amount of lead points or advantage is enought to them. So if it just skill based I say the jump from S to S+ is the most noticable and then just after the jump from S+ to X. Though I would say that many people will remember the jump from B to A because these people are still learning the game and it takes time to learn. How the hell I am struggling in two separates ranks I don´t know. Gamemodes are different I guess. Sorry for making it long. In short, Skill based hardest jump is S to S+ and inmediatly after S+ to X. The jump from B to A takes longer to the average player because they are still learning and that is why it is remembered, or at least it is what I think.

@@fernavliz1 I’d be surprised that you’re s/s+0 in Tower but X/s+9 in rm, since the two modes are so similar. Personally I’d say it’s either your mentality about the tc or low rank, your unlucky ness in Tower, or simply your weapon does good on rm but not on tower. If the third one is the case, I’d recommend swapping to a weapon with a gg special like ray or booyah(assuming it doesn’t have it already) or a blaster variant or a weapon with a blast radius(any blaster or machine)(or do both). Even with this, frankly just playing it is prob the best way to improve. I hope this helped, even though it probably didn’t(sorry if it didn’t).

@@galacticsalt7336 To be honest, I main the sploosh because my aim is really, really bad. The sploosh-omatic inks the floor faster and so it let me swim and evade; that is my main tactic, evade, dodge, flank and surround. When I have to stand my ground, I can´t and I rely on others. In tower control you have to defend and stand your ground. On rainmaker you have to look for an oportunity to get to the goal, or even you can sneak to it; It main focus is movement; the only think I can be good sometimes. Honestly if it weren´t for that weapon, I might be on A rank at best and mostly on B rank. People says that the sploosh-omatic with the splashdown is the worst weapon. I say "I know, I main it and it is my favorite". That is why I love this game, there is a lot of variation in its simplicity and it allows so many playstyles I cannot imagine it all. And about your advice, probably the clash blaster would be my best option in tower control. Either way I play mostly for fun and I am not in a hurry to improve in any rank. It will come naturally I guess. Thanks for responding : )

It really depends on the player. I am on S+ but I am really bad at aiming and so my first instinct is to evade and run. More skillful people might just counter or aim faster and if it works for them, good for them.

The other players TRIED to jump in front to stop me, but I got the drop on them, so their escort mission failed! It was pretty funny.

It's a competitive game, and that means a lot of players are going to get very good at it, especially since the game has been out so long at this point. If you stick to it, you'll definitely improve over time. People often overestimate how much better they can get in a day and underestimate how much better they can get in a month.

@@1970jjatl People definitely have a hard time understanding Clam Blitz at first (because they don't read the rules lol) but it gets better the higher up you go. It's my personal favorite game mode; I remember before the mode released thinking about what kind of new mode I would want to add to the game and coming up with something that was actually pretty similar to it.

I really just hate the trash teammates 😪

@@1970jjatl Thinking about them like that probably won't help you; it often keeps people from thinking about what they could have done better. If you really are significantly stronger than your teammates, you're also going to be stronger than your opponents, so you should be able to carry more often than not.

Don't worry about level. I've seen level 60 players in C rank and level 20 players in X. Levels only measure how long you've been playing. That'll correlate with skill, sure, but less than you think, and there are a lot of outliers.

The pool of players is the same whether you're in B-, B, or B+. Anyone anywhere in B rank can end up in the same game together.
