You've mentioned this one like a few months ago. Getting exposure, I mean. I'm in my first year in college so there's not a lot of jobs that I qualify to. UNTIL one company called me back about the Jr. Data Analyst position. I though i was gonna get data analytics experience but nooooo they transferred me to the marketing department. But you know what? At least they pay well. And i actually do a little data cleaning/scraping. Anything to pay the bills, I guess. LOL.. Thanks for the inspiration!! ❤️ Stay safe

Yeah sometimes you may need a stepping stone position to get a stepping stone position 😊 But it's great that you're starting early! More experience is always a plus!

@@EtchedActuarial hey Brie? You think this marketing job would be more valued if I became an actuary in Consulting right?.. because i think they're on the buy side, if I'm not wrong?

@@jchung5066 Experience working with data is generally a good skill to have, but you should start looking for stepping stone positions that more closely matches actuarial positions once you have more experience.

Hey ! I really appreciate everything that you upload for us, I have found all of your content useful and helpful from the perspective of an aspiring actuary Regardless, I’d be glad if you upload a video explaining foreign languages related to the actuarial field Is it worth learning languages while pursuing the actuarial career? What languages are much in high demand? That is just a topic I’d find useful, still I hope you can keep doing what you love Thank you very much

Learning foreign languages is not a top priority. Generally in the US and Canada as long as you can communicate fluently in English it'll be okay. See here for things you should focus on to become a top candidate: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SHxlIjG6tuk.html

Should I include actuarial exams on my resume when applying to stepping stone positions?

No, it's best to tailor your resume to the position you're applying for!

Hello, I am about to declare my major at university and I have been really really thinking of declaring statisitcs and finance as my majors. I dont know anything about finance but I am really really good at math. The actuary career is something I have been hearing about in the last couple months and it seems like a long road. Do you think that at 30yo it could still be a viable option?

Hey Alfred! It's definitely possible - take a look at this video that talks more about becoming an actuary later in your career ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9GlG3-P_bNw.html

I'm 29 and late into pursuing my degree did I realise I would probably like a career in being an actuary. I then changed my degree in mathematics to multidisciplinary so that I could take some more business related classes. I'm afraid though that since my degree is multidisciplinary and not actuary, economics, or mathematics that employers will not consider me and all my years in school would have been for nothing. Any advice on that? Does having a multidisciplinary degree make me a less attractive candidate to employers?
@EtchedActuarial
@EtchedActuarial 2 года назад
Hey there! It doesn't really matter what you major in as long as you can pass exams and get some related experience. Your multidisciplinary degree is totally fine, and that business coursework will probably come in handy! :)

Hey! There are lots of videos on this channel where you can learn more about the actuarial career. Here are some good ones to get started with: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M2PFzl6ttzE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AC_4aax8oFA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OrOJ8u5nhYs.html You can also research to see if there is a professional organization like the SOA or CAS in the country you want to work for more information.

Hi Brea! can you tell me please if working as an insurance broker in a damage insurance firm can be a good stepping stone position for the actuarial position? Or is it more a stepping stone for another stepping stone position like to get a job in underwriting. Thank you:)
@EtchedActuarial
@EtchedActuarial 3 года назад
I can't give you an accurate response without looking at the full job posting, but there may be better stepping stone positions. It's a great way to gain insurance knowledge, but to become a broker you usually need other certifications so the time may be better spent preparing for actuarial exams.

@@EtchedActuarial they told me that the AMF license is not that hard to obtain especially when we have a background in insurance. The recreiter said that i will have contact with policyholders to advise them and explain our products but also using excel to manipulate different data .. i know its not like underwriting or analysis but ...i would know if it can affect negatively on my future actuarial carreer ..
@EtchedActuarial

@@yasmineenimsay9132 It won't negatively affect your career! Having insurance knowledge and using technical skills on your job are great things to add to your resume.

Hi Candy! It would be helpful to compare the responsibilities of the internship role with the ones listed in actuarial postings.
