I had to throw away my Bible because it was falling apart, pages falling out. It would be nice if there was a place that would recycle bibles, and make new recycled bibles.

I have brought Bibles I was no longer using to church and offered them to others for free.

I disagree. My goal is to write, highlight, underline, all throughout my Bible. Then when it's falling apart, I throw it away and start the same process on another Bible. The value is not the paper. The value is in digging into it and getting it into your heart. I can go to a Goodwill Bin Store and purchase bibles for $0.99. If I didn't buy them there, Goodwill sends them to be recycled into cardboard. So I have no problem really tearing into the word of God, and when I"m done, throwing it away and starting again.

I like the idea of being reverent towards the Bible BUT over the years I have collected Bibles that may pertain to a certain denomination-their version of the Bible. I may have collected some of these Bibles in order to compare what other religions teach and just to be informed about other religions in general (with the idea of maybe witnessing to a person of another religion) even though I may not necessarily agree with their doctrine. Just curious if a person should or would treat this Bible similarly to a more "generally accepted" version of the Bible?

Hey Greg, that is a really great question. After thinking about your scenario for a few minutes, here's what I would personally do - since that translation is not something that you'd ever want another person to be influenced by, gifting, donation, and rebinding would be out of the question. That leaves burial, and due to the fact that this translation contains a mixture of both truth and lies, I'd bury it for the sake of the truth it contains. Again, fantastic question and one that I haven't previously considered. When you have a minute, I'd love to hear what you come up with as well.

You started off by saying never never throw it away so I should have buried it? I felt terrible putting it in the trash but it smelled really bad after she peed on it and it was my favorite Bible

What if my cat peed on it? It smelled really bad and it soaked through the pages.

Diane, I just replied to your other comment. In cases like this, I would bury it vs. throwing it away in the garbage.
