I was looking at fabrics etc but once i saw that he kept saying organic material i was able to find what i think was a nest area under and behind my fridge where i guess a few bits of old food had fallen and rolled under. thank you!

It’s not the adults you have to worry about, they just feed on flowers. The problem is the larvae, they eat carpets! Check under sofas and other dark places by giving the carpet fibres a tug. If it starts coming away in your hand…then you got a problem.

These bugs have been plaguing my apartment. I first noticed one in a hairbrush. Thought it was just a lump of hair, until it started to wiggle. Then started finding them hiding in the nooks of the carpet. Got professionals in to spray the apartment. 2 months later and I have seen a couple of larvae and 1 beetle. I vacuum frantically and spray areas I suspect they could be hiding (including under the fridge, couch, etc). Aside from getting professionals in again (which I will do), is there anything I can do to as a deterrent or to lure them out from their hiding spots?

Can I just say, reading the comments you have made has really calmed my anxiety. I found probably 2 or 3 larvae on my (non-organic) carpet on Sunday night and spent the whole night googling and causing myself real stress about how I'm gonna have to burn all my clothes and every wordly possession etc etc. Been making me ill for days with worry. These comments have really helped :) I'm just gonna hoover like a madman for a few days and they lay some DE and live and let live. I’ve seen several carpet beetles (mainly dead by window) , but NO larvae. I’ve checked everywhere, vacuumed etc. It’s just adults (saw one really large one, but rest are super small). I know these are very common in households, many people just don’t tend to notice, especially if they have carpet (oddly enough). I’m 100% wood, no carpet, so seeing these is baffling. At this point, I’ve exhausted all efforts so it is what it is. I can count on 2 hands how many i’ve seen (meaning under 10). I’m definitely on the lookout however since the weather is warming up. I also reinforced my window screens (there are gaps along the edges and sometimes, bugs and flies get caught between screen and window) by getting weather stripping foam to put on bottom of window and rubber caulk strip to form a barrier between screen gaps. Sprayed Ortho Home Defense in the windows, let it dry, then sprinkled DE and closed windows. Haven’t encountered any since then, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Fingers crossed!

Fun annoying fact about carpet beetles. They don't just attack carpet just because its in their name. They go for an organic material called keratin found in plants, flowers, soil and COTTON. Cotton is an example of what has keratin in it. It can be everywhere in your home not just carpet. CARPET, CLOTHES, BEDDING, anything with organic material like cotton. Since cotton is derived from a plant. Don't use store bought chemicals, it wont help it will spread it out as most of those products are repellents. Call a professional, preferably not an independent cheap pest control guy...

Hello. First of all, thank you very much for the video. I have a question. I've been seeing tiny ladybug-like bugs in the house for a few years and I've been picking them up and leaving them out (sometimes, not very often). but for the last month, I've started to see them(i found they are carpet beetles) on the curtains almost every day, especially in the bedrooms and kitchen. And I started seeing larvae in the kitchen, inside the lamp, on the baseboard. under the fur carpets(all dead). But the larvae are yellow or light brown . They seem to have two antennas, some smaller and some larger. I've seen a tiny one even in kitchen cabinets. I have a baby and two children (one of whom is chronically ill). Should I call the exterminator? (packing everything scares me a bit) Or I'm using vinegar and insecticide myself at the moment (for a week) I spray it on the baseboards, the floor and the curtains every day. Is it enough for me to do this? Would the vinegar water really help? Also, I had 4 wool rugs in my house. But I threw them all away. After throwing it, I saw 3 more adult carpet beetles (on the curtains). What else should I do? I do not want the infestation to grow more. Do you have any advice for me? (Note: I did not see any nests of larvae in any of the carpets. and the carpets were not damaged. But I only saw two larvae in one of the carpets. I don't know where the nests are. I usually vacuum the house twice, sometimes 3 times a week. But it takes time to make a deep cleaning.)Thank you!
@PestInterceptors
@PestInterceptors 11 месяцев назад
Vinegar is pointless apart from your home smelling like a fish and chip shop. There are more beetle species than any other species of insect, so identification is key. You may have different types of beetle causing different damage. There are beetles that live on fur for example. Maybe find an entomologist or pest control company who can identify or have an entomologist. Good luck.

I have had carpet beetle - but not in rooms in which I used insecticide powder - I shake it along all the wall edges and under the chair/sofa seats. They travel along the edges so this kills any you don't vacuum. Vacuum regularly ( not the powdered edges) and empty the cleaner weekly. Wash all your clothes as they will lay eggs inside stored clothes. Valuable clothes should be stored in plastic containers or tight topped plastic bins. Wear a mask when shaking the powder into the edges etc. They fly in through open windows so use a screen.

Hello there. Thanks a lot for this video, short and informative! I don't know if I have an infestation, but I'm seeing carpet beetle larvae every so often (like maybe 2-3 every two days) since a little more than a year (at that time I would find maybe 1 or 2 every two days). Most of them were on the ground, and I've found only one in my wardrobe. One thing to note though is that I haven't found them in one specific spot but all around my apartment (maybe they travelled around unnoticed?) So I've got 2 questions : - I have seen comments where you mentionned using diatomaceous earth. Would you recommend using food grade DE? I live alone and don't have any pets. - I've been wondering about using essential oils with a diffuser. I know it won't kill them but apparently the scent can repel them. Do you think this would refrain the larvae to come out as well as prevent potential adults to come in my apartment? Thank you!

1. I don’t think it makes any difference whatsoever. I actually eat DE so I choose the food standard one, but in all honesty DE is DE really…but you can never be too careful and the price difference is not very much anyway. 2. Every house we go into smells of some essential oil or another. Just goes to show you how good (naughty) marketing can work. Apparently essential oils cure everything from bed bugs to rats! 😊 I always point out to customers that they still have the pest but a nice smelling home & how no pest control company ever uses them. 😂 Good luck.

@PestInterceptors
@PestInterceptors 8 месяцев назад
They can eat pretty much everything that is organic material. So finding what it is could prove very difficult. For instance, if you have floorboards, years of hair and skin falls through the gaps, this is a food source. But also bear in mind that without these and many other types of beetles, we would be knee deep in ‘stuff’. They don’t carry diseases either, so perhaps a little “live and let live” may come into play. You could try something non toxic like Diatomaceous earth. This dust punctures the skin of the larvae and kills them.

I’m not sure where to start with this comment my friend. Carpet beetle don’t live on mattresses. They only live on organic material like wool, not what your bedding is probably made from. There were lots of dead bees in the chimney where some unscrupulous pest controller had tried to kill the bee colony some years earlier. The dead bees were a good source for carpet beetle (the bees outer skin is keratin, similar to our hair and the wool of sheep). Once the carpet beetle had eaten all the bees they got hungry. Then they found the wool carpet in the bedroom and started to eat that! We actually removed the HUGE bee colony (alive) a few days later. Here’s the video of us removing the colony of bees. Sometimes they can just caught inside by flying through an open window, but 15 adults is quite a lot to be flying in! If you don’t have organic carpets it’s not a problem as they don’t eat nylon and other non organic materials. So check what your carpets are. You can check for damage by finding dark areas of carpets, under sofas, under tv units, etc. Move the furniture and tug at the carpet fibre. If they come away you have a problem. Also check around carpet edges (the damage tends to start at the edges too). Especially check these edges under or around any blocked/old fireplaces. Good luck.
