Scabies mites are the hardest to get rid of, why? Nothing will kill these things!

It is a long story for a simple prevention. My cat gets Revolution against the mites once a month and a collar against the ticks that last 8 months. She comes in and out during the day. She is healthy, and no dandruff can be seen in her black hair. It's a bit expensive but it's worth it.

Hello dr. Cliff ! we adopted a Pomeranian puppy and she was diagnosed with walking dandruff Cheyletiella Mites . puppy is 9 weeks old and only 411g ( 0.906 lbs ). very tiny! We brought her to our vet as she had this flaky dandruff all over her poor little body and they did a scrape of her skin and found the mites we also have a 1.5 year old Pomeranian as well and they said she would need to be treated as well because they had been in contact with the new puppy. My vet prescribed Revolution for 2 treatments . 30 days apart .She did the first treatment in office for both dogs and sent us home the second doses to do in 30 days. I have read online that is should be 14 days apart not 30 to treat Cheyletiella ? I am just looking for a second opinion as ive tried to call other vets in the city and they unfortunately wont give me an answer as to the correct dosing unless they "see: the dog basically want me to go in for an exam that my dog has already had :( . I have heard horror stories about revolution I was weary about giving it to them to begin with but we need to clear the problem. I am worried that if it is in-fact 14 days between treatments for this that we could get re infested again if its not done before 30 days . Another worry is that we could cause toxicity to our dogs if administered too soon ! please shead some light on this for me and i would be extremely great-full! also! just how common is re infestation from the environment ( our house ) from the dogs walking around ? what can i use around the house to kill any eggs? do they live on hard surfaces or just carpet ? do you suggest shampooing them with a flea and tick shampoo as well or just the revolution i dont want to harm them with too much chemical! and if so can you tell me a brand of flea and tick shampoo that is safe for my pups. thank you so much!

Wow...Cheyletiella...brought back memories of vet school. Its very very rare here in Ontario. 1. Revolution is super safe. You could give your dog 6 X the dosage monthly for 6 months and it still is safe...trust me. 2. 2 treatments one month apart is sufficient. Often dandruff dogs also have ear mites and in that case we treat with 3 treatments, 2 weeks apart, so maybe that is where your info is coming from. But your vet is doing it correctly. Reinfestation is very rare because your dogs will be protected for 2 months straight so as the eggs hatch over the next 6 weeks, the larva will die just form coming in contact with the Revolution infused dander and hair follicles. Then if some somehow make it to adult and jump on your dogs, they too will die before they can breed. Sounds like your vet is "spot on" (thats kind of a vet joke.

The treatment as you describe worked for my two puppies. Your vet may well have adjusted dose based on what they actually know about our dogs - we are not able to rely on what we read off the Internet as it applies to our animals when seen by a professional.

Hello Doc! I just watched this video because I got a new kitten with ear mites. Can these mites really transfer to humans? :(
@DrCliff
@DrCliff 3 года назад
not really...funny sotry: many years ago a "oddball" vet wanted to show that people can develop an immune response to mites. So he scooped up debris from an infected dog's ears and shoved it into his own ear canal. He went to describe how he could hear them crawling and chewing, and even crawling to the other ear. He didnt apply medication and eventually it cleared up. He did it again and it cleared up within a few days - therefore he feels he proved us humans are able to cure ourselves...as I said, a bit of an oddball. But, no, we arent really a host for these guys. But dont stick a dirty swab in your ear to test the theory :P

@@DrCliff Oh wow 😂 I was just worried, because our kitten is still undergoing treatment for ear mites and he’s also very clingy. He rubs his face and body right at our faces whenever we lie down in the sofa and goes near our baby whenever she cries (very cute) 🥺 This helps a lot though! Thank you so much, Doc! 🥰
