I did it! I found a perfect natural remedy to rid my chickens of stick tight hen fleas and we have no mites! I battled hen fleas for about 5 years! I’ve been completely flea free now for over 3 weeks!
To begin
You’ll need a sprayer like a good 365 degree one. Or for a bigger coup maybe a gallon sprayer.
I mixed 1 tablespoon concentrate pyrethrin to 32 ounces of water and added about 1 tsp citronella oil.
Spray your dirty coup first! Then be sure to clean your coup real good! Take all bedding that contains fleas and pile it out in an exposed area in the hot sun! The fleas can’t live in the open area with lots of sun!
In a clean coup on a dirt floor spray daily for 7 days. Lightly mist every inch. Clean nesting boxes and add diatomaceous earth, oregano and lavender to the boxes. Don’t spray the boxes with pyrethrins!
Week 2 continue to spray every other day and as needed. Check for fleas often! The fleas on the chickens will fall off and be exposed to the spray, so don’t worry about the chickens too much!
Week 3 lay a generous amount of wood shavings, I mixed pine and cedar shavings. Spray the shavings with a light mist. I’m re- spraying the chips weekly.

Thank you soooo much!! I just now today realized there’s such a thing. I have so many bites myself I got to wondering what I’m the world is going on. Haven’t even had a chance to look at my 9 chickens because it’s late at night. Very anxious to see if I find them on my girls tomorrow morn. I have a horrible feeling they’ve got them. I’m a brand new chicken owner and honestly I feel very overwhelmed. A lot of work ahead, but atleast there’s an answer to help solve it, if I they do have them.

Are chicken fleas & mites different from regular fleas you find on dogs & cats?? I don't have a farm or anything just some indoor cats but I'd always like to learn any natural/non toxic solutions so I might be able to pass on the info to someone someday. Thank you so much for sharing😊

Actually hen fleas are different! They are called stick tight fleas and while dogs and cats can get them they are totally different than regular fleas! I made a video on good natural remedies for cats! It might be helpful too!!!ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gvla7YA1kZc.htmlsi=UUAiknTsuwNbDBXe

I'm sorry to ask another question, but my cat seems to be coughing and sorta is has fits of breathing weird. I noticed tapeworms were on its behind earlier today. Can tapeworms cause upper respiratory breathing issues? Or in your experience what worms cause this? Thank you so much for always answering!

Tape worms do not usually cycle through the lungs but round worms can, also there is a parasite that comes from feline feces Eucoleus aerophilus it can cause lung infections. Nebulizing colloidal silver can clear infection. There are a few natural antibiotic extracts that can be given to cats to help as well and wormwood will eventually kill the worms. It does take 90 plus days of a natural protocol to kill lungworms in cats. But generally you see good results improving daily!

@@EarthsAnswers When you say natural protocol do you mean something that would have wormwood in it? And will DE kill lungworms on its own or do I need to buy something with wormwood in it to give to my cats? And last question 🤣. Is nebulizer colloital silver just colloital silver? I keel looking it up to buy some, but I'm just getting colloital silver online. Do I need a specific blend of it?

Our hens free range and we are battling stick tight fleas. I have almost 40 hens I just got some Elector PSP and plan to treat everything today. Apparently with Elector PSP it’s a one time treatment. If that ends up to be true then is 100% worth the $$

Those fleas are definitely breeding in the coop! Concentrate on the coop and they’ll be gone! This is strange but my cooped chickens are now completely flea free for almost a year but their goat neighbors and my Great Pyrenees dogs are loaded this spring!

Yes for sure. Our plan is to dip the birds, clean/spray the coop, and all the outdoor places they love to hang out.

@angelmaxwell145 good deal!!boy those stick tight fleas are really hard to get rid of! You might have to keep up on it several times! I’ve been spraying almost weekly since we have warmed up

I'm having a flea problem this year too. Did you spray their heads and faces? I have Eletor psp. It worked great to get rid of mites.

I have a quick question. I had been giving my cat DE for a week and I found her dead today. My question is do tapeworms cause death in cats? Did I not get on it soon enough? I'm only asking because I don't want to make this mistake again.
@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers 11 месяцев назад
Oh no I’m beyond sorry for your loss. Tapeworms generally don’t cause unexpected death, usually the host (your cat) will become so emancipated you would notice that decline. Was your cat extremely thin? How old was she? She may have had other parasites as well and maybe other health problems that were underlying.

Hello! I have several barn cats that have access to the coop and chicken run. I can use pyrethrin in the coop and let it dry out for a few hours but I have no way of enclosing the chicken run. I just started letting the chickens free range so they are not always in the coop/run but they have a lot of fleas. Like you I have been battling this for two years now with no success.

Ah you sound like me! Good news tho, I’m nearly 100% flea free now! None on my chickens just a few on the cats and goats! This spring I’m using the pyrethrins on the goats and in the chicken coop. For the cats, I just do their ears with coconut oil. They literally have only 1 or two fleas stick on their ears. My cats can get to where I spray as well, so I spray when my cats are napping or just not around, it only takes a few minutes for it to dry! I’ve not had one sick cat! I’ve read several more articles that pyrethrins break down extremely quick and are not very toxic to cats in extremely low concentrations! In fact the flea powder made for cats by Zodiac contains pyrethrins as its active ingredient. Since reading more on pyrethrins I’ve been a little less cautious around the cats! Start using natural pyrethrins you’ll get rid of your fleas!

@@EarthsAnswers that’s great! did you have any concerns about your cats being exposed to pyrethrin? Or is it sufficient to let it all dry for a few hours? My cats occasionally will go in the coop.. just scared of poisoning them. But I’m so tired of the fleas. Been dealing with it for two years now.
@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers Месяц назад
@JennyLopez-sg4mg oh yes I was so worried! I’m not now after more research! Once it dries it’s definitely 100% safe! Even the zodiac flea powder says that it breaks down quickly in the stomach if the cat grooms and eats some powder. I liberally spray but like I said I just be sure not to spray my cats directly. I totally understand your frustration stick tight fleas are some of the worse pest I’ve experienced Horrible!

I have a question. My cat has began coughing but hairballs don't come out. My question is that is can worms cause this? I'm worried about heartworms, but he's not coughing up blood or anything. Do tapeworms or roundworms cause this?
@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers 11 месяцев назад
Yes there are parasites that travel through the lungs, lungworms in cats! They cycle through the intestines too. Of course getting a diagnosis from a veterinarian would be a good idea, if your cat seems healthy I’d start with deworming and add a good fish oil and some lysine for cats.

Hi! I’m planning on using this on my chicken and their coop area. I need to treat our yard but we have tons of bees right now and I do not want to kill them out - what’s something I can use to treat the yard for the fleas but it also be safe to bees
@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers 3 месяца назад
Oh yes! I think if you spray your yard with the vests best essential oil yard spray and do this either late in the evening or very early in the morning when the bees are not out it will not hurt your bees. I would think a late evening application might even be better so it can dry through the night. I know once the essential oils are applied and dry they will not hurt the bees but will get rid of the fleas! Remember it may take several applications.

You can dust your chickens with DE and they do make a pyrethrins spray for chickens too! But staying on top of the coop is most important!

@EarthsAnswers

Yes as long as you’re not spraying the eggs directly. Pyrethrins dissipate quickly and is approved to be used on vegetable gardens.
