Yes!! I love the questions! For my cats I feed them wild caught salmon oil. I get it on Amazon, oh my gosh it really makes their coat shine and helps with shedding! DE didn't work for me. Every 2 days I put it on my cat and I sprinkled it all over the carpets and even used a broom to help spread it around and get it in good. I'd put a mask on and make everyone stay outside while I did it, and I'd leave it on the carpets for a good 3 or 4 days. Everything in my home was coated with a greyish white dust and it's not as easy to clean off as regular dust, and it also destroyed my favorite shark vacuum trying to vacuum it out of the carpets. My cat still has fleas, as does my home.

Gah I’m sorry to hear this! Unfortunately DE can take weeks to work, sometimes over 30 days if there is humidity! It’s definitely a messy slow process, dry arid climates do better and small infestations clear up faster than large ones. Of course treating outdoors helps too, fleas can live outside and new fleas jumping on daily bringing them into the house with pets that go outside! DE isn’t for every situation! It might be helpful eventually and with other natural treatments too!

How can we treat ringworm in feral cat colonies? Its just rampant here. Thanks!
@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers 2 дня назад
Oh goodness! I’m guessing you can’t get close enough to these feral kitties for topical treatments? So I’d maybe start with homeopathics. Sulphur 30c might help. You could crush 3 or 4 pellets and add to a water dish daily for a few weeks. Don’t touch the pellets put them in a dish and crush them with the back of a spoon. You could add some tuna juice to the water to entice them to drink it. I’d also use the food grade diatomaceous earth in any areas they sleep, if this contacts the ring worm overtime it will heal it. Also feeding lysine will really help boost their immune system and make them more resistant to ringworm!

DE is IMMEDIATELY rendered useless when wet, so is completely pointless when mixed into wet food or ingested.
@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers 7 дней назад
This isn’t so true, it’s less effective on hard shelled exoskeletons when wet but still is effective for soft bodies like parasites. This information your sharing pertains to using this topical, when DE is wet it forms a clay that does not adhere to most bugs that crawl across it, however when ingested it coats intestinal parasites and is effective at destroying their outer layers. It’s excellent as a dewormer, I’ve been using it for years and have done before and after fecal counts with my vet with great results!

Well I’ve been dusting on my cats and dogs for over 20 years and not one of them has ever had lung cancer or any lung issue. I’ve also packaged it and sold my flea powder and dewormer that long and I too have no lung issues. I did have mold in my lungs 10 years ago and they took a camera in my lungs and said my lungs were perfect! I don’t believe you’d have anything to worry about adding it to their food!

@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers 17 дней назад
For an adult cat it’s suggested that you use 1 tsp daily for 7 to 10 days for intestinal parasites, for giardiasis you’ll want to go longer anywhere from 30 to even 60 days, I had some feral kittens with Protozoas that took almost 90 days to clear it out, but they improved daily and were some of the healthiest cats I’ve had!

@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers 21 день назад
Hello!!! The diatomaceous earth is great for actually eliminating fleas, it’s not the best at repelling them! Also, DE is not the best choice in all situations, it does not work well in high humidity, it takes twice as long. I do use essential oils for repellent and DE to actually kills fleas. Essential oils won’t really kill fleas unless they are sprayed heavily directly on them as where if fleas crawl through the DE they will dehydrate and die in 24 hours or less.

@CarolinaMomOf2
@CarolinaMomOf2 22 дня назад
It is NOT harmless if your pets breathe it in. Some vets advise against using it for this reason. Personally, I have used it but ALWAYS apply it outdoors . NOT because it’s messy indoors but because it’s harmful if your pet inhales it. Diatomaceous earth consists of the fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled microalgae. They way it works is it pierces the exoskeleton of fleas and other hard shelled insects. The insects then dehydrate and die. Consider what this can do to your pets lungs. It can cause damage very similar to the way asbestos does! If it applied safely - sparingly, outdoors, preferably with a slight breeze to blow the dust towards the animal’s tail - it is safe.
@Oldcrow77
@Oldcrow77 24 дня назад
Please use caution to avoid eye contact and breathing the fine particles. DE is made of ground up sea shells basically. It kills the fleas because it’s sharp edges create cuts in the shell of the flea and the die of dehydration. So you want to make sure your animals and you don’t breathe it. Her concern for her skin is from its dry effects. But it’s really the lungs and eyes you need to worry about. To avoid your animal being a “ puff ball” for a few days, Use small amounts in shaker and use a flea comb to comb into fur. Other DIY videos suggest cover pets nose when applying and always do so out doors, mindful of wind blowing excess away.
@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers 24 дня назад
I think you have read mixed information, you are correct DE is basically ground sea shells and it does dehydrate but where your information is wrong, is the grade, food grade is extremely fine and filtration grade is coarse, food grade poses less inhalation risk and filtration, “pool” grade is extremely dangerous to breath. Since there are two grades many people post all over the internet how dangerous it is to breathe, usually referring to pool grade DE. With that said, of course it’s not good to breathe any fine dust and caution should be used to avoid breathing concentrated amounts. As for me and my animals, we have been using it for over 20 years this way with no lung issues at all! This is the reason I made the video to help people understand that food grade DE is not in the same class as filtration grade. It’s a safe and effective flea and tick control.
@Oldcrow77
@Oldcrow77 24 дня назад
@@EarthsAnswers it’s still coarse sharp material, that’s what makes it effective. And finer only means just that, finer particles that are harder to be filtered. And same with the eyes, Very familiar with both as I used to build pools. My fear is, as people tend to think a little too a great, then a lot is better. So having your animals breath it over days may not ever effect them, or it may not adversely effect them in the 8-12 year lifespan of a dog. But I certainly don’t want this suspended in my indoor air or children or people with respiratory issues subjected to it. I appreciate your work, again I fear the over use and also, all that getting shaken off does not kill the fleas. Smaller amounts worked in with a flea comb, I find to be more effective and budget friendly. With 4 cats 3 dogs I have to save where I can. Thanks for getting back to me Best

That’s a great question, of course it’s not good to breathe any kind of powder whether it’s food grade or not. But the reason I believe so many people are so miss informed on using the food grade DE for flea powder is there are two kinds of DE and pool or filtration grade is definitely the one you can not breathe! I think many people read this and somehow it’s been spread to include food grade DE.

@EarthsAnswers
@EarthsAnswers Месяц назад
That’s a great question, you could bathe them when you were completely rid of fleas but I wouldn’t bathe between applications, the process gets rid of fleas by drying them out so washing cats or dogs between can add moisture to new fleas just jumping on.. the food grade DE does not dry out your cats skin and has no irritating effects. Many people use it for preventative and dust once monthly and reapply if they do need to bathe their animal. I personally have had DE all over my skin for over 24 hours and there is no effect what so ever, no irritation.
