If you have very large portions of your lawn filled with crab grass that you just killed using your process. What do you do afterwards? Does it make sense to see that area of dead weeds/crabgrass?
@@michaelsong6934 Technically you're supposed to wait 3 weeks. Assume the first round of spray didn't fully kill the plants. Be ready for another spray before seeding. Assume the first round of grass seed doesn't take. Try again after a week. Best times are during spring and fall rains.
@@SilverCymbal Do you have any videos on reseeding dead crabgrass/weeds? Or do you just use the same standard reseeding process you have shown before? Thanks again!
@@michaelsong6934 Yes I show you here how to overseed your lawn and a much easier method for doing it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nAVDDePLoNU.html
I watched your video on this subject. I ordered from Amazon and it is amazing. Nutmeg turned yellow with in days and creeping Charlie the same. They took awhile and now are gone. Thank you.
I think it may have been another one of your videos on getting rid of clover, but I’m thankful you showed this. Ordered and followed directions and a week later starting to see the results. Thank you.
Great content, I must have watched hours at this point of what you've procured. Thank you for all the great advise explaining fundamentals without needing to spend a fortune at the big box store.
Any updates??? I'm about 4-5 weeks in. I have had good results but some stuff has still not died completely. Creeping Charlie still present but still white at the tips. Wondering if I need a second application
Excellent video! I love the way you explain clearly. On some other videos, people talk too much not to the point and their videos are way too long and very boring to watch. Thank you so much. BTW, as someone commented, the dog is adorable!!!
I really appreciate that a lot. Glad you liked it. Our dog is really, couldn't ask for a more loyal little friend. Thank you for watching and being a part of my channel.
tenacity is my favorite herbicide... one product and kill most of weeds like a crabgrass, nutsedge, creeping charlie, poa annua... and more more more, also prevent... :) you can use it with grass seed
I used to think that same thing, Watch my project video where a dump turned into a pretty nice space with Tenacity: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VT73LKxPiWo.html
@@TommyG5585 I think he means that his lawn is all weeds so if he sprayed it there wouldn't be anything green left. BUT watch how bad my lawn was ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VT73LKxPiWo.html before weed control. There is grass in there trying to make it!
I like the small purple flowers throughout my yard and spots. I also do not have OCD when it comes to weeds in my lawn. I bet I have a lot less stress when sitting on my porch looking across my freshly mowed yard. Don't let it get to you too much and try to enjoy nature for what it is.
I haven't had too much luck with Tenacity in the transition zone where I have a mix of fescue, bluegrass and rye. It turns most of the grass white where it is sprayed. If it's not heat of the summer then some grass does recover after about a month. If I keep spraying it every so often, my grass is going to have white patches all summer long making it seem like the lawn is diseased. I wish it came in 1/4 size and cost bottle so people can try it out.
Sorry to hear that something doesn't sound right. Just be sure to use the surfactant (not soap) and check your mix but I have the same grass as you and it has worked really well. You will get somewhitening at times but you shouldn't get it everywhere. Also you could try a lesser tip on your sprayer.
I love his videos. No cheezy filler. He skips the rapport building and comedy like others do. Always the best products and methods. The clincher here? I thought tenacity too expensive for me. One sentence "may seem expensive but cheaper per gallon.". I also realized I've had to treat and retreat with box store concentrates so in reality cost way less. I also figured out from this video that the tall yellow grass overtaking the lawn is Nutsedge, checked labels and box store weed killer doesn't kill it, no wonder it's flourishing. Thanks much for saving me real aggrevation, time and money..
Used this about a month ago....it's working great. Just sprayed the areas I missed last month. It does take a week to 10 days to see most weeds turn white. Some wilt in a day or two, but most take at least a week to show results. Patience!!!
Thanks for making this video! I just got everything you suggested this week. If I cut the grass on Saturdays, is there an optimal day for applying? I imagine if I go a day or two before mowing, there’ll be more contact with the leaves of the weeds. But I can also see an argument for right after mowing because there’s a better chance of making contact with the weeds closer to their roots. Thanks!
This approach sounds workable for me- Creeping Charlie has begun to take over my backyard and part of the flower bed there, where I have Sedum. I plan to purchase TODAY, 10/18/2021 and apply. Hopefully I will see some results by next summer.
Will you report back after you use and let us know how it works against the Creeping Charlie? In his video, he was showing what looked like clover in his yard, not Creeping Charlie.
OK, I just made up a gallon of Tenacity/surfactant/dye and hit some spots in St. Augustine lawn in SE Texas. Now we wait. :^) I would have done it sooner (got my stuff about 3 weeks ago), but reading the directions, I need to do it in between waterings, and I'm having to water pretty much every day right now. I just bit my lip, turned off the sprinkler system, and put out the Tenacity. I hope it works without killing the grass, because down here, once it gets warm (basically March or April) we can't use pre-emergent anymore. I'll update here in a week. Wow, is Tenacity ever concentrated. I think with one bottle I've got a lifetime supply.
OK, the Tenacity is definitely working. Just about everywhere I sprayed it, the targeted weeds have turned white. Some took longer than others. It's a bit freaky how paper-white they are. I've since read that it's better if you apply Tenacity when it's not too hot (I forget the exact temperature threshold) so when I apply some more this weekend, I'm going to do it in the evening. I did notice that in the sunny areas of my lawn, the grass itself did pale a bit, so it was probably a bit too hot at the time. It's regularly in the high 90's and beyond where I live this time of year. So, this is great. I have something I can use post-emergent on my lawn for weed control. I use Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns in the early spring, which works well but I can't use it once it starts getting warm, which happens around March or April here. I suppose from now on I can keep using that pre-emergent or Tenacity, switching to just Tenacity post-emergent. I don't think I should use Tenacity in my beds in any case, but there I can continue to use Spectracide Weed and Grass Killer (like Roundup but a different chemical) if I'm careful about overspray. Only thing left is something to kill nutsedge in my beds - for that I want to try something called Sedgehammer. Has anyone tried that?
BTW, someone had asked if Tenacity is safe for bermuda grass, and I had promised I would report back what Tenacity did to the bermuda grass in my St. Augustine lawn (where bermuda grass is not wanted!), but I can't find where I wrote that. So, FWIW, it looks to me like Tenacity is killing the bermuda grass in my lawn, which is great for me, but not so good for people with bermuda grass lawns. I think Silver Cymbal posted somewhere in these comments a better product than Tenacity for bermuda grass lawns. HTH.
Sometimes multiple applications may be required for ivory creeping charlie violets due to root system. Always attempt right out of dormant stage. After a night rain seems better to do in morning. Faster it grows the better they die. I worked for scotts and my experience taught me these tricks.
Unfortunately because this kills clover, which is essential for fixing nitrogen in the soil, I can’t use it on the larger back lawn. Is there any information on its effect on insects-bees in particular, and worms? I’m very concerned about the environmental impact of what I do.
I have eliminated 99.9% of Charlie and 99% of sedge from 2/3 of an acre of lawn. I started hand picking the Charlie early each Spring and continued into the season until the ivy was gone. This took a LOT of walking the yard. (I’m retired by the way and have lots of time for this) Over the course of several years, Charlie is all but completely gone. I might find a few new ones each year but for the most part, it’s GONE. As for sedge, I hand pick it also in the same fashion. You have to grasp the plant down near the base to pull the whole plant out by the root. My next target is corn speedwell. I also eliminated dandelions the same way, using a weed puller. Tenacity works well and I’ve used it on creeping bentgrass with limited success. Much of it has remerged and I’ve given up on trying to stop it.

I used to work at a cranberry and blueberry farm in Tabernacle NJ, for one year, anyway the old farmer that owned the place had a saying, that I can only remember 1/2 of - if it has an edge it's a sedge....... any body know the rest?
Not sure if you still monitor questions. I did not see any comments about the right time to fight the Creeping Charlie. I have missed the spring (early June now in NE). Do I really have to wait until early fall which I have read somewhere else.
Great video. However, Tenacity should only be used on cool season grasses, not warm season grasses. Still, your videos are excellent quality. Thanks. (I have Bermuda)
Very clear and easy to follow video. Thank you very much for your great videos. After tenacity application is it ok to apply a fertilize that comes with weed control+insect control. E.g Scott’s Summer guard. How long should you wait after applying tenacity.
Found this video late last year, and I wanted to wait until I had tried the method, and seen results before reviewing. This video is amazing, and the method he lays out works perfectly. I have a TON of creeping Charlie in my backyard, and I did my first round last fall right before things got cold. It took a little longer for the stuff to turn white like described, but it did work. This spring I had to hit some of the back yard again because there was just so much creeping Carlie back there, but like clockwork, a couple days after spraying, it turned white and died off again. I want to point out that the reason I’m having to hit the yard multiple times isn’t because the mixture isn’t strong enough - I just have so much in my yard that it is easily missed while spraying. Probably will need to hit the yard one more time this fall, but then I will be able to plant new seed in the spring, which I’m super excited about. If I was to have one piece of feedback it would be on the dye - the blue dye can be kind of hard to see sometimes, so a neon color might work better. Not sure. Overall, highly recommended this video and method.
I really appreciate the nice comment & more so that it really helped you improve your lawn. We are all so busy these days and can use easier ways to get great results. For the dye comment you can always go heavier on that also for more visibility, especially on darker soils. Thanks again
Good to know! I tried this method 5 days ago or so and still waiting to see changes. Hopefully in the next few days. At what point should I spray again?
@@paathimself Don't spray again until everything happens. I know it feels like it didn't work. Wait a few more days, if you look through the comments I get this a lot and everyone comes back a few days later and is like wow!
Silver Cymbal Wanted to check back in and let you know that at exactly 7 days, the creeping Charlie has started to turn white! I’m really impressed! Still waiting to see if I sprayed the appropriate amount to leave the good grass happy but that’s user error on my part if it does happen. Thanks so much for this video! How often would you day you spray in one year? Is this like a “start of spring” and “end of fall” type deal? Or just as needed?
@@paathimself Let it do its thing if areas are missed you cam spray those anytime but the areas that were sprayed I almost never have to respray. Maybe once I did, but the stuff is very effective. The time of year is just when the weeds are bad. You will usually spray what you see in early spring and early-mid summer, crabgrass, etc. Fall is not usually needed as many die off by then but you can spray if they are there. Most years I spray 2x, and it's easier every year by a large margin, so even year 2 you will spray 75% less than before. Works very well.
@parrotprodigy productions oh no! Well I hope all is now. Thank you so much for responding so fast. I'm debating spending this kind of money not knowing the results.
Thank you, - Also check out my web site I have a visual weed guide, just match the picture to what you have to help get the name: www.silvercymbal.com/weed-id
I purchased all the items needed from this video. Questions: Will rain or irrigation slow down the process? Is it better to apply late in the day so the product doesn't dry too quickly?
I noticed in the video you did not specifically mention Nutsedge or Creeping Charlie. Want to make sure it is safe to use on Tall Fescue lawns. Last year I had a Yellow Nutsedge outbreak and was told to use Image Nutsedge killer and did so without reading the label thoroughly. Turned out Image is not compatible with Tall Fescue and it killed both the nutsedge and fescue. Dont want a repeat. Thanks
What is the recommended temperature range for spraying Tenacity? What were the results on nut sedge? What time of the year are you showing here? Supposedly Tenacity can be used even if you overseed so I’m hoping to use it this fall before I aerate and overseed to control creeping Charlie. Great video and any help here is greatly appreciated

I live in Kentucky and creeping charlie is everywhere I don’t want it, more specifically, in my gardens. In my strawberries this stuff is growing faster than I can pull it out. Do you think using the formula in the video will work and not damage the strawberries? Thank you for the information in advance.
I just purchased a mid 80s house and my lawn is trashed lol. Previous owners didn’t try to keep it nice. There are a hand full of patches (maybe 20% of the lawn) has a beautiful wide blade zoysia. I live in central FL, can I spray the whole yard without worrying about the zoysia being killed? Spot spraying this yard would be a mild form of torture lmao
Noooo,. I t wont hurt but you dont need to. The way Tenacity works. it starves the weeds and you will see what happens, they turn into nothing by the third week. You truly can spray and let it do its thing and they will be gone on their own.
@@SilverCymbal ok cool. That's what I was thinking. The spurge I have is completely dry. Crepping Charlie and nutsedge is still looking worse everyday. Is it true quackgrass is impossible to get rid of with an herbicide?? And only round up works? Thanks for the reply. Your channel is awesome. Very straightforward and informative
Have the damaged unit removed. Discard it, (avoid the recycle bin) and go with a decent strap-on. They're bigger, better, & come in a variety of colors.
@@coracora7714 I need to change my comment about my lawn service. Last Fall, I noticed a marked decline of creeping charlie. They are applying Speedzone as their broadleaf week control. This year, the creeping charlie is all gone except around the flower beds they avoid spraying. I'm using Speedzone in a hand sprayer there and have gotten good control in these small areas. My infestation was pretty heavy a year ago so I guess I needed to be more patient to get rid of this pesky weed. Lawn looks terrific now and grass has filled in all the bare spots left by the dead creeping charlie. Yaay!
Ive been using ortho weed b gone and its not working. Weeds are getting out of control. I will be giving this a try. Hopefully it will kill all of the weeds just in time for September re-seed.
I spent almost $200 on Ortho and it wasn't ever going to end. With these items you buy them once and you get about 3 years of weed control for an average sized lawn. Put some tenacity down in a few spots last week to test and man is it working! How long would you wait to mow after putting down tenacity? Want to make sure it reaches the root system as well before mowing. Thoughts?
So, per your recommendations, I bought this exact same sprayer and these products to apply. But a crucial part you leave out with that sprayer is what tip do you use? Do you use the brass one, the blue one or the other one? Also can you apply tenacity right after mowing? Somewhere I read supposedly you have to wait two days. Just wondering how you do it?
I use the yellow tip with the sprayers plus for best results. Remember 2 & 2 rule. Don't mow for 2 days prior to spraying and wait 2 days after. Hope this helps
@@SilverCymbal excellent! I almost sprayed with the tip that came on it. Thanks for clarification on it all! I bought the stuff at the beginning of the year and haven't put it down yet and now my yard is in desperate need of saving LOL
So I made the mix just like you recommended, then spot sprayed my lawn. I made two gallons, but I have about a 1/2 gallon leftover. Can I keep it and use it again in a few weeks? Or should I dispose of it?
I never kept any around more than a day and the instructions don't cover this. I wouldn't leave it in the sprayer since it will likely clog it up. Best bet is to treat some weeds either in the woods, or for a neighbor to just use it up.
Creeping Charlie, clover and buttercup took over my raised leach field and many other spots. Also moss is pretty heavy around the entire yard in between every small spot in the grass. It's like a hard surface moss not the spongy kind. I'm thinking I should just wait until fall and hit the lawn with all I got. I'll lime it and fertilize it for now but Idk if I should bother seeding in early may. I'm just south of Boston. I'm going to buy a tow behind aerator this summer since renting is around 90 for 24 hrs. I did dethatch which helped tare up the moss and some creeping charlie but certainly isn't enough. I'll give tenacity a try!
Why wait though? The weeds can be dealt with now, and in the fall you will have less to deal with. Remember weeds take longer to grow than you think they aren't overnight. So the more you get now, the easier it will be in the fall to renovate. Spraying is easy and you will like it when they disappear you might have more grass there than you think too.
@@SilverCymbal yeah good point. I didn't want to have a baren wasteland after treating the lawn. Is it too late to seed over it after treating it though(after the weeds due)?

I don’t recommend whole lawn spraying, it uses a lot of products and is too east to over apply and potentially cause damage. Hey SC, two questions. I live in the burbs of chicago, when will be a good time to apply this and also can this be used in a garden to kill off the creeping charlie without adversely effecting soil?
We just got a house and about 75% or more of the lawn is creeping Charlie and similar weeds. We would spray this all over the yard. Will any grass even survive or will we have to reseed??
Or you could leave the creeping charie/ground ivy - Glechoma hederacea, which is an herb of the mint family, is edible, has health benefits, feeds the bees and has beautiful purple flowers. It also does not need to be cut like grass, which is the real weed.

I've used Tenacity for years in No. Virginia to control Bermuda grass and it works for that. I apply a pre-emergent like Dimension to prevent crabgrass. If the occasional crabgrass plant emerges, I just pull it out. Spurge power seems to work on most weeds. These unwanted grasses and weeds seem to really emerge during hot weather stretches. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.
Hi, I watched your video on Creeping Charlie, I have fought with these weeds for 4 years now. The local garden coop suggested something I have been using, expensive but did not work at all. I have a Ryobi one gallon sprayer, so it took a lot of mixings to do the four lawns I needed to do. It has been 8 days now, the weeds are starting to yellow which is awesome and I suspect the goal. But, some of the tips of the insanely lush grass have also yellowed a bit. One of my lawns was already great, just spot sprayed. One was pretty good everywhere except for the Creeping Charlie. Two were newly tilled and seeded in September 2020. The lawns were well established and looking good except for the new weeds which I did not want to take over the new grass. I could be wrong, I am just a chick landlord learning my way here, but I suspect that my sprayer was putting down more product that I should have been applying. Thoughts, going forward? It is almost time here to apply insect killer, lots of lawn ants, and grub control first of June. Then, will be ready for the next fertilizing in early June. First question, will that get my green grass back after the weeds have died down? Second, should I cut the recipe in half whenever I need to spray for weeds again and or spot spray? Thank you for your time. It definitely looks like I am going to get the weeds under control for the first time, just hoping to get the green grass back as well. Thank you, Kristine
Hope someone will answer this for me, but should I cut my grass before application??. I’ve just learned of my creeping Charlie invasion and it is spreading really bad on one side of my yard
Question. I just got all my supplies. I am in SE Michigan. I did a weed and feed two weeks ago. I just cut the lawn this weekend. Its supposed to be cold, they are actually calling for a night of snow.. Weird. Anyway, when do you think I should get this on the lawn based on that info?
I've tried using tenacity twice now on my lawn that has creeping Charlie, nutsedge and clover. The first treatment didn't do much for me, but the second treatment was much more effective however there doesn't seem to be any effect on the creeping charlie. Any thought on why that would be?
