As a pest technician I get also lots of questions about pantry pests. it would be great if you make video on that as well. just an opinion

Nice to hear from you. When you say "pantry pests" are we talking about the kids, the in-laws, or something like meal moths, grain beetles and that sort of thing? Just kidding. I will put it on my list of things to talk about in my videos. I must warn you though... I don't have any brilliant solutions beyond what you have probably already be taught and are most likely already doing. Still, I will have a go at it as soon as I can pull it together. It may take a while because I have several videos on the drawing board at the moment that I need to get finished first. Thanks for the suggestion. Be well my friend.

If you want to get rid of mosquitos, put their natural predators around your house. Have all the water you want around your house. Once you get their predators around your house, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the show. It worked for me.

What I will never understand is where do they come from ? How do they come back every year? How do they survive in the winter
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Месяц назад
That is a complicated question, but basically, they can survive some pretty cold temperatures and they can slow down their metabolism and kind of hibernate for 6 to 8 months without eating. They breed very fast, so they will get out of hand if you do nothing to control them. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

@guyspestsolutions I head to a “camp” in the woods, no running water and only 12 volt electricity. It’s in the woods so getting there on a regular basis to deal with breeding areas is not likely. What options are there to knock down the extreme mass of mosquitos and biting flys for a weekend?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 месяца назад
Mosquitoes in the woods is a hard nut to crack. They can breed in the smallest amount of water, like in hollowed out tree limbs and that sort of thing. There is usually lots of leaves on the ground that covers all sorts of breeding areas. The natural canopy of the forest provides the sort of shade that mosquitoes love, so I don't know what to tell you. The biting flies are the same way. You have no control over their environment, so you cannot prevent them. The best you can do for the mosquitoes is to use mosquito repellent. You want a product with as much deet as possible. For the flies, keep a can of Raid Ant and Roach Killer handy. If you spray one of the flies with it, they will drop almost immediately. I am so sorry. I wish I had a better solution, but you got me on that one. Be well my friend.

Unfortunately we own a property above a river in southern utah. Come late summer, early fall the river isnt moving and what’s left of the river water is standing. Since I cant remove the standing water any other suggestions? Thanks much!

How far are you from the river? What is between you and the river? Photos of the area between the river and your house would be helpful. You can send them to guyspestsolutions@gmail.com. I would be happy to have a look and see if I can make some suggestions. Please give me your RU-vid name when emailing, so I know who you are. Be well Kathleen.

You should look into setting up bait buckets with BT(bacillus thuringiensis) dunks or granules. I live near a river also and this works for me. You can break up the dunks to get more bang for your buck. I have used the granules where standing water builds up during heavy rains but the dunks in the bucket seem to be enough.

I have mosquitos very bad at night. I have a lake nearby. What's the solution to this??
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Год назад
Mosquitoes breed in shallow, standing water. Lakes are not shallow, so they are not good breeding areas. However, there are often puddles near lakes that make perfect breeding areas. You need to find the areas of standing water and eliminate them. If you cannot eliminate the standing water, then you can treat it with mosquito dunks. You can obtain them at domyown.com. It would also be helpful to treat your yard. I will give you a link to my video on how to do that. Be well my friend. You are right on the boarder of where drywood termites are known to exist, but you are definitely in Formosan territory. So, you really do need to identify the species of termites that are in your fruit trees. If these turn out to be Formosan termites, then time is of the essence. Be well my friend.

They are a pain to get rid of because they will fly over from other yards. About the best you can do is treat your yard. That will reduce the problem, but not eliminate it. I will give you a link to the video. Be well my friend. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wifoTU5dmp0.html

We had/have 2 types of termites - flying and subterranean. So had to have the house tented and fogged. UGHH! Pest company said there are termites in the lemon tree. Said they weren't allowed to spray/ treat fruit trees. --> HOW CAN I TREAT MY FRUIT TREE(s) to eliminate termites? Thanks in advance!
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Год назад
@@margaretmclane2928 You should know that all species of termites produce swarmers that fly, so you probably only had one species. If they fumigated, then that was most likely drywood termites. I will talk about the fruit trees in just a bit. First though, it is important to understand how drywood termites work. They enter through cracks and crevices around windows, doors, the eaves, pipe penetrations, and so forth. Most of the time, they enter through several locations. That is because a swarm of them attacked your house at the same time. If there was a crack or a crevice, then they probably found it. After they establish their galleries, which will be inside the wood, it will take four to seven years for them to be able to swarm. Now that they are in your house, the swarmers will use holes that are in your studs to travel through the walls. Those holes in the studs were created by the electricians to run the electrical wiring. Not only are these holes going through the studs, but holes were drilled into the attic for the light switches and to run some of the wiring for the outlets. So, the termites now have easy access throughout the attic and the walls. If you have a basement or crawl space, they have access to that as well. Most of the time, you will have no idea that they are in the walls, because the frass is inside the wall. To make matters worse, if you have drywood termites, then your neighbors have them too. That means you have been getting swarmed for as long as they have existed in the neighborhood. Most likely, we're talking about years, so it's a safe bet that you have these guys were in many locations in your home. That is why you need to fumigate for them. You should also know that the gas they use to fumigate has absolutely no residual action whatsoever, so you can get reinfested the moment the tent comes down. Like I said before, if you have drywood termites, then your neighbors have them as well. The are most likely in the fruit trees too. Since drywood termites swarm every year, it is almost a certainty that you will be reinfested within a year after the fumigation is done. The only way to prevent this is to do a preventive treatment on your house every 60 to 90 days. Most pest controllers will not do this, so it is something that you generally need to do yourself. I have a video on how to do that and I will place a link below. You should begin the preventive treatment immediately, so that you do not get additional termites paying you a visit. You didn't tell me when this fumigation was done, but unless it was very recent, then you are probably already reinfested. This is assuming that you actually did have drywood termites. Now, let's talk about those trees. Drywood termites get their name because they like dry wood. They typically do not eat live wood. That means, if they are in your fruit trees, then those trees are already in distress for some other reason and the termites are probably eating dead wood in those trees. The only species of termites that I am aware of that will eat live wood are Formosan termites. Unfortunately, if you live in an area where there are drywood termites, then you also live in an area where there are Formosan termites. Hopefully, you are dealing with drywood termites that are investing trees that are already dying. If these guys turn out to be Formosan termites, then you have a real problem because they are also most likely attacking your house, and these guys are very aggressive. They can destroy an entire house in a matter of months. Fumigation does not work on Formosan termites and since the swarmers look very similar to dry wood termites, pest control companies that do not know what they are doing can misidentify the species. So, they will fumigate your house, when they should have been treating the house entirely differently. Therefore, I think the first thing you need to do is to figure out which species are in those trees. I have a video on how to identify termite species. Please watch that video and get back to me. How you proceed going forward is going to depend upon the species. Don't worry. Identifying the species is not as hard as it sounds. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.
