In this video I break down the differences and advantages of termite bait stations and liquid termite treatments.
ALL the EXACT products I use for 🪳pest control, 🎥 content creation, and 🕺personal.

Thank you guys for watching! Please subscribe to my channel. I post about all kinds of pest control and bug content!
Here's an overview of this video. Basically, termite bait stations and liquid chemical treatments both work! They are more similar than they are different. Bait stations store the termite poison in stations around the perimeter of a structure while liquid treatments treat the soil directly.
Bait stations are a quicker solution for installation, they don't use as much chemical, and they are newer technology. Liquid treatments are a long term solution, use more chemical, and are traditional treatments.
I highly recommend getting your home treated for termites! Termites cause billions of dollars worth of damage each year. You need to know what termites are and how to identify them if you own a home that is built out of wood.
My Pest Control Company: catchypestsolu... servicing Asheville, North Carolina.
Thanks for watching, comment and let me know what treatment you used for your home

I have almost 37 years experience in the business. There’s nothing that comes close to Termidor SC. Not Termidor HE and definitely not Taurus SC and unfortunately the big national companies have evolved termite baits into a money making racket. If you have baits and the company is checking them more than a every 2 months basis you are being ripped off. I tried Taurus SC a couple years ago and had a 100% retreat rate. With Termidor HE its always worked but can take upwards of a year to get full control but with Termidor SC and almost 23 years of use it has a 0% retreat rate, yes zero.

I notice you mentioned bait stations are a quicker solution but I disagree, stations can take a much longer time to eliminate an active colony. And I’ve inspected hundreds of homes with bait stations and active termites in the home that were attracted by the bait but then moved onto the home (the biggest bait station.) if soil conditions are very damp we usually go with imidacloprid as it stays put much better than fipronil in high saturated soils.
@steadyeddie7453
@steadyeddie7453 Год назад
I was also advised that if you have existing termites then the bait stations don't work. The termites have already found their wood source, so they could care less about the wood in the bait station.
@soquick69
@soquick69 11 месяцев назад
The Sentricon stations are always active. The "bait" is very durable cellulose material with the active chemical being noviflumeron which stops the termite from molting. They don't attract termites at first but termites are random foragers. They are constantly searching for food up to 100 yards from the colony. Once they find the station they will use pheromones to mark it as a food source. It's very effective. The University of Florida has multiple studies showing it's efficacy. Good info overall in the video. You have a good head for the business. Great advice at the end.

Painting bedrooms and found 3 rooms with drywall damage and one room with active bugs eating drywall paper. Plus there was one day swarmers were seen in that active room. House on a slab and Orkin drilled inside house through the foundation every 10-12 inches only on the obviously effected walls plus drilled into drywall down low and injected foam only on effected walls. They didn't trench outside but just squirted the Termidor every foot or more around the outside perimeter. Is it safe to assume the critters have been terminated? Should we still do annual inspection and further treatments only if activity is spotted? Appreciate any comments.

@kevinyoung947 I believe they said they could've done either but in our case trenching would've been more as a preventive measure all around where the injecting every foot was more of what was needed in our case. Probably just a story IMO. Orkin was very proactive in that they came back 2 times for further treatment within a month to treat a north side of the house that couldn't be treated because we had an underground concrete cistern water supply 5 feet from the garage wall. We hooked up to city water and collapsed the cistern and Orkin was gracious enough to come back and treat that outside garage foundation.

I think a system like Centricon is more effective. Since it has an IGR in it, once a worker feeds it to the queen none of the eggs she lays will ever mature properly which leads to a rapid collapse of the colony. The company I worked for charged an annual fee but we inspected the stations every three months.

@jessespad
@jessespad 2 года назад
I don't fully understand your question, because if it's just gravel against the slab, you can still dig a trench and treat. If it's like a concrete slab in your way, you drill holes and apply the liquid termiticide under the slab to form the barrier. If your house is built on a solid rock and there is no soil, which I've never seen, then you probably live in an area that doesn't have subterranean termites. A liquid soil treatment is only for subterranean termites. That may help answer your question, until Dan sees your comment. And I'm also a licensed pest technician as well, fyi.

Blame the States and Environmentalists. They are choppin' down hard on chemicals. Less chemicals the better and easier it is for everybody now. Also apparently, Liquid Treatments decline overtime. It doesn't "last" for 10 years but rather it gets less effective over a 10 year period. No one knows how less effective but the assumption is a Liquid treatment in it's first to second year is much more as one in it's 10 year +

The next day, I couldn't wait to make an appointment with several companies that specialize in the treatment of termites. They offered different plans, and the price was basically around $1900. I also learned a lot of relevant knowledge through your video and bought the “products”, hoping can eliminate this huge hidden danger in the ASAP and end of my nightmare. Do you have any better suggestions here? Thanks again for your sharing.

Thank you! Yeah no kidding, swarming termites are like something out of a movie! Good luck with the treatment. $1900 is a little pricy for a treatment in my area (KY) but if you live in a bigger city that might be the market price. Our treatments are about $1k for an average sized home. Just make sure the company that does the treatment is offering a fair annual warranty and the renewal fee isn't too pricy too.

I cant say for certainty, but Florida is known for having Formosan termites who are much more aggressive than Eastern Subterraneans. That could be the reason for the high prices for termite control where you live.

Hi Dan i started doing my own pest control the last few years. My home is ant and roach free. I will start termite control soon. What are your thoughts if I did both systems? Because some of the areas around my house can't be trenched. If I did do both systems how far apart would you put the baite stations? Thanks keep up the good work

Here's my take on the choices. I live in Thailand in a circa 1,000 sq. ft house. The climate is tropical and similar to the southern USA but with more rain. I opted for bait stations because of the standing groundwater which occurs so often. Last year I installed 20 bait stations around the house and found termites in 16 within the first two weeks. I baited the stations and effectively eradicated them within 3 months including the removal of a 2 meter long mound on the property. This winter was very wet again and after the groundwater dropped I rebaited the stations. This time 7 out of the 20 stations showed infestations. I choose the bait stations because of the flexibility of dealing with persistent infestations. I could never afford the cost of the liquids required. With global climate changes housing construction policies have to change to begin building houses on raised pillars again to mitigate infestations.

Hi, Dan , how are you doing, I have a question, I like to use the liquid of bio advanced mixed with water pouring around outside of house wall for every 2 months, but I have a fruit tree near the wall about 6 feet distance, I am worry that the roots of fruit tree absorbed the liquid of treatment. Is it not good ? or do I change to use the termite stakes near area of fruit tree ? Thank you for your attention

Im a termite technician myself. Our company's standard is placing the station about 2 to 3 feet from the roofline and away from gutter spouts. Stations should also be placed about 8 to 10 feet apart for the best results. This helps ensure that the termites will find the stations. Most companies will measure the linear footage of your home and give an estimate based on the measurements. If your home for example is 250 linear feet, its safe to assume that you will need about 25 stations around the house give or take to compensate for additional in ground stuctures/slabs around your home (pools, patios, etc.)

This was an awesome video !! I just found out that I have subterranean termites. I am in South Florida and I have a house With a crawl space . It seems that they are in the crawl space right now . No evidence for them inside the house . What would be the best approach in my case with the crawl space ? I had 4 different companies and they all give you different opinions and approaches . Very confusing 😳 Also one told me that I have a moisture issue in the crawl space and that I need to fix that first . That’s nothing that indicates a leak or anything. Other company said that’s no leak and moisture is not such an issue and to start placing these Baits stations ASAP. Who to believe?!😳

Go withe the bait stations. You can DIY it. You can buy the stations and bait at Home Depot. It will save you a bundle, but don't skimp on the number you install. They are cheap compared to the damage costs to repair structural damage to your house. Be sure and tell your neighbors you have them. They may be the source of your infestation!

If you go with bait get a company to do it or see if you can order it. Dont get the cheap stuff at home depot or wal mart it wont work the way you think just read the label it will say IF YOU HAVE TERMITE ACTIVITY YOU NEED A LISCENSED COMPANY TO DEAL WITH IT. Dont waste money cheap will cost you more in the end.

I've been installing sentricon for years, I never try to sell it, I always try to steer the customer to liquid but that's what my company sells. It's trash, very scammy product, I believed in it when I first started but after seeing homes get eaten up. I remember going to inspect stations and the customer showed me a trash bin that he used to store firewood, he drilled 3holes in the bottom to drain rain water, there were mud tubes all the way up to the top log, not even 2 feet away was one of our stations, zero activity. Completely lost faith in this product

Liquid treatment is the best kills faster and cheaper in long run. My termite management business sells 93% percent (I just checked) more liquid treatments than bait stations. A lot of people don’t want to have to pay the monthly fee to check and the warranty is much different. A termidor treatment on a slab home with not much concrete drilling shouldn’t cost more than $795-1000 depending on linear and square footage.

Hello, I live in the Philippines, We have an Active infestation from Subterranean termites, to the point if I put a piece of plywood on the ground, within 3 days the termites will be all over the ground facing surface of the plywood! So finding them is not an issue... He get a metric ton of rain here, being a small island, so I am thinking my best bet is to make a few Mounds & place the bait traps in them incase there are multiple colonies. That way the rain wont wash them out. What is / are the main active ingredients that I should look for in baits?

It looks like the active ingredient in Termidor is Fipronil. The same active ingredient in the Dcon roach motel bait stations and the same as Frontline for dogs etc. It that correct? My house has Sentricons placed by the previous owner but I dug half of them up because they were in stupid locations and I didn't want to pay to have them inspected every year. Sentricon is very protective of the industry and I have not been able to find the refills online for the homeowner. I was able to find the key/wrench thing to open them up but not to refill them. The DIY bait stations I have found are just the cellulose and not the poison.

There is a third option: Bora-Care treatment for the foundation and first two feet of lumber of your home (attic too if you’re in an area with flying termites). Borate-based treatments are WAY more eco-friendly than soil or bait stations, it lasts for the life of your house, and it protects your wood from more than just termites (wood boring beetles, mold, rot). The wood in your house is what you want to protect, may as well treat it directly!

You do not need to replace the bait every year. Noviflumuron in sentricon has around a 20 year shelf/ half life. You need to check annually to make sure a station hasn’t been depleted. That’s when you need to replace a bait. The video to me sounded like you’re saying every year all stations need new bait.

The Trelona bait system in 2023 is the best bait system on the market today because it has an almost pure cellulose bait and is highly attractive to termites because of the high cellulose content--also the material that kills out the colony is an IGR with no toxicity to mammals. It is best for prevention but in most circumstances needs to be used in conjunction with a Termidor liquid treatment if termites are well inside the structure.
