Well, I for one am very interested in bowhunting with a recurve, and indeed generally understanding the trad world, so please ignore naysayers and continue this kind of content! Thank you so much for the great content!

Just bought the exact same bow I bought in 1962 with paper route money. Yep, I'm that old, and that was my second bow. My first bow my dad bought me when I was 6. It was wood, made by a Penobscot Indian and bought on Indian Island in the middle of the Penobscot River. How cool was that. Been shooting compound and love it but, you know. I'm a ground hunter, public land, deer, turkey. So, I'm going to take another step back. It's 35 pound, 54 inch Bear, Gray Fox. Just ordered through Three Rivers, arrows and equipment. Excited. Excellent leather work, love the quiver. Lots of great info, much appreciated.

The sage is a great bow! Can definitely hold its own against much more expensive bows. Only reason I switch was because the grip wasn't quite right for my hand. On a side note jake kaminski (Olympic silver medalist) has a RU-vid channel on form that might help alot of trad shooters out.

Great video, I started out in tradition archery, I found a long bow in an abandoned house we were cleaning out, I still use that bow, it's 65 lbs. Then I bought a bear recurve from a guy at work, I used that thing religiously, and then about three years ago the limbs shattered on me. After that I didn't even think about archery for about four years but last week I got some arrows for my long bow, and im getting back into it. Now I just need to find a decent recurve, been looking in Amazon, but I am on a tight budget so I'm waiting until I find a deal. Thanks for sharing, I know i need to work on consistent form, I'm going to get a clicker. I'm also going to dabble in arrow and string making, because I absolutely love this sport and I want to pass it down to my children.

I got The black hunter recurve. I made the mistake of getting the 50lb limbs. I went from not hitting the target, to keeping a 5 inch area per 3 shots at 20 yards. This is all new to me lol. So far I have learn quite a bit. The more you practice the better you will become. I enjoy archery with my recurve. I had a crossbow once before and didn’t really care for it. There wasn’t much of a challenge

I’m thinking of returning to the recurve for instinctive stump shooting. I simply miss it, even though I love my compound bow. Lighter draw weight, I was much more accurate than going heavy! As a kid, I taught myself to shoot my Daisy Red Ryder BB gun instinctive, before I even knew what that ment, because the sights were useless. I got to the point, with both eyes on the target, & watching the flight of the BB, & the butt of the gun on top my shoulder, & looking down the side of the barrel, I could eventually hit bugs, or plug a sand ant hole with my BB. With enough practice, you can get that good & accurate with a bow too. I shot so much, I wore that BB gun out!

A 45 pound recurve bow is ideal. Shooting can be learned and the draw weight is plenty for taking game animals. However, arrow spine is critical lighter is better with plenty of FOC and I learned that the hard way by being an expert and a know it all who couldn’t hit the broad side of an airplane hanger!!

I want to start learning archery but I'm not sure what kind of bow to start with. Is better to start with a recurve or compound? and what bow should I get? Thank you. I've shot a now when I was younger with my uncle who is a hunter as well as several of my family members but I'm 44 now and would like to learn so I can teach my boys.
@mknight6556
@mknight6556 Год назад
If you haven't bought a bow yet,. I recommend you start with a recurve and stay traditional. It's so simple and you can learn how to build some cedar arrows with your boys. If you like simplicity and like to save money, go the traditional route. It'll make you a great hunter and the recurve is a very capable weapon with a sharp fixed blade broadhead. I personally like instinctive shooting the most as I feel like I can hunt a little longer at night. As long as i can still see the deer. As with a compound , you need to make sure you can still see your sight pin. Also if something comes in on you fast, I feel like it's quicker to engage with a recurve opposed to lining up the peep hole and finding your pin with a compound. Just getting a new string strung up on your new set of training wheels can cost upwards of $75. For $75, in the traditional archery world,. You can buy a lot. You can find an old Herters, Shakespeare, or Bear recurve at a rubbage sale for so cheap. Just make sure the limbs are straight, order a new string for $10. Maybe put a new arrow rest I it and boom you have a working bow that needs to be tuned. A compound can cost over a grand these days. And people are constantly upgrading... My 1962 Bear Kodiak is timeless. It's just beautiful man,. And shes a silent killer to anything within 20 yards. As long as theres not a twig in the way! Happy hunting 🤟

I'm 53 and 5' 7". Medium build. I have no problem with 50 lbs in my traditional and self bows. Been bow hunting since I was 14. Once you shoot a few months with good form, you will learn to use your back muscles to hold that draw back and lock in with your shoulder blade muscles. Once you get it right, you'll know. Good luck.

Why does people have shorten words and think it's cool ?? Traditional no need to make it sound no other way just my two since
@streetbl
@streetbl 4 года назад
"Linguists have thought for many years the length of words is related to the frequency of use, with short words used more often than long ones. Now researchers in the US have shown the length is more closely related to the amount of information the words carry than their frequency of use. A link between the length of words and how frequently they are used was first proposed in 1935 by George Kingsley Zipf, a Harvard University linguist and philologist. Zipf's idea was that people would tend to shorten words they used often, to save time in writing and speaking. The relationship seems intuitive and it seems to apply to many languages with short words such as “the”, “a”, “to”, “and”, “so” (and equivalents in other languages) being frequently used. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), led by Steven Piantadosi, tested the Zipf relationship by analysing word use in 11 European languages. They analyzed digitized texts for correlations between words by counting how often all pairs of words occurred in sequence. This information was then used to estimate the probability of words occurring after given previous words or sequences of words. They made the assumption that the more predictable a word is, the less information it conveys, and estimated the information content from information theory, which says the information content is proportional to the negative logarithm of the probability of a word occurring. Piantadosi said if the word length is directly related to information content this would make the transmission of information through language more efficient and also make speech and written texts easier to understand. This is because shorter words, carrying less information, would be scattered through the speech, essentially “smoothing out” the information density and delivering the important information at a steady rate. The studies suggest that the short words are in fact the least informative and most predictable words rather than the most often used, and that word length is more closely related to the information the words contain. The paper is soon to be published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). Steven Piantadosi belongs to the PhD program with MIT’s Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences." by Lin Edwards , Phys.org

Funny. You’re worried about abbreviating words when you can’t use proper grammar. You should have asked, why “do”, not “does”. Also it should be my two “cents” not “since”. Try educating yourself before you publicly criticize others.
