I'm shocked that there's no locking mechanism on that control! Like pull up/down and turn or something - I can see that tapping your wrist in the video, so I'm surprised it wasn't changing mid job.
Thanks for the video. I would like a clarification - $100k just painting or painting and dent repair? High end cars (Acura, Mercedes, Audi and BMW) or all types of makes? City rates vs country or rural area rates? Working in a shop or doing your own work? Seems like there is a lot of variables for someone to make $100k. Not doubting your figures, but trying to understand your reasoning. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I always look forward to your videos.
Im a painter, have been at it since I was 20, im 40 now. I make well over 100k and the guy next to me does as well. It’s very possible and quite common in a high volume shop. Efficiency is key.
Well said Brian. I was just having the tool vs skill discussion with a younger person in a different field. He couldn't understand why someone like me would spend big money on quality tools when he had seen me and others take inexpensive tools and get good results. It all comes down to how hard vs. how smart you want to work for the result and what down time is worth. Quality tools are easier to use and with proper maintenance break less often.
This video was great. How many paint guns should a profesional have? I would say more than 10. 2 clear(show and factory finish), 4 base(metallic, solid) 2 ground coat and 2 correct color. sealer, primer, plastic adhesion, wetbed, single stage, and minni. in one year 2 re-dos, around 25 from over10,000. knowing how to fix mistakes before your first coat and last coat of clear is the key.
Thanks for all the great content, been watching for a long time, question, how do I get rid of tape lines after basecoat, prior to clearcoat. I was thinking just 2000 grit on the hard edges and then clearcoat? It’s not the whole door panel, 2’ x 2’ area in the center of the door. On the hinge between front and rear door. Rolled back the tape after Basecoat, and there is a hard line, just finished drying 10min ago. Or apply another base coat on the edges before it completely dry eyes.
I'm stuck on the kind of air compressor needed. Some say 3-5 horsepower, some say 15-20 horsepower and that's a humongous price difference. Any recommendations for the proper air compressor?
Definitely the mission I'm on that's why I check in and watch and learn close when I make the practice perfect I will take on the big jobs appreciate but at the end of the day I always remember what you say it's just paint😂😂😂😂keep it coming I appreciate you man don't stop learning a lot 🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge, love your content! Do you have a video for changing the colour of a car, (blue to red) ie what order to do things? Do you have to disassemble whole car removing all panels, paint everything fully inside and out (panels and shell) then reassemble, and begin again sanding down and masking off the door jams etc, and repaint outside of assembled car? Seams crazy to paint the roof, quarters and outer of the panels twice but I cant think how else to do it? especially considering timing between sealer / basecoat / clear, dont want days between each stage as it wont adhere properly??? any pointers or a video would be fantastic help. kindest regards.
This was an informative video. I do not have an ideal setup to paint cars but many of your tips have helped me tremendously. Thank you. There are so many variables in the paint process and I try to account for as many as I can. That being said the most important one is planning the job. Knowing your steps in the entire process before you even touch the car. Knowing your equipment and the environment the, how you're going to manage the vehicle, and doing a dry run on cars with more challenging body lines and dimensions. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Your are awesome
I really like your videos, very informative. I've got a new Sagola 4500, never used whichI bought 6-8 years ago (got hurt). I also have there mini which is great. I'm really would like to try the 4500 but I don't think that'll happen. Keep the videos coming. By the way, you do know what the palm in peace sign means, right? A peace sign is palm out and screw you or other profanity is palm in, just FYI.
I work at a shop that thinks your never supposed to get a run or have Orange peel Or buff..or any issue at all with a color match. I do a about two re do a month.. either a bad color match or some other miscellaneous issues that happens with painting. And these strange people freak out and make a big deal of it. And this is a independent shop. Worked at Cadillac never had these issues. Two cars a month is an insane %percentage of success.. And I do around 15 cars a week
Thank you for this video and all others, I am trying to learn before i buy equipment for learning to paint and repair cars :), i want to do it purely for hobby and repair my own cars.
Can you make a video about salaries, different types of employment, how many hours painters should work. etc. I see how your job looks and also see almost no difference except the fact that in my shop I paint 1-3 cars a day, and the salary is far away from what I could get with this volume of work. I'm just a beginner in this country, so I would like to be aware of this market asap
Every region is different. Best thing to do is look at job postings that state rate of pay or how much yearly a painter will get paid. Painters can start at around 50k a year and get as high as 200k easily a year if u have no life. Alot of shops use ur lack of experience to pay u less. The real money maker if ur good is being on flat rate(paid per job) thats where u make the most money
Hey Brian, love your videos and have learned a lot from you! Maybe you mentioned this before but I was wondering why you don’t use a supplied air respirator? Is the organic vapor cartridge for the respirators good enough?
Nice. Efficiency is key. You have to hustle, put in the time and the money will come. I always say painting is murphys law. If it can go wrong it will- mitigate everything you can. You also have to know how to fix things real time to get yourself out of a re do. I demo'd the 4600. I liked it, didn't buy it cause I had just dropped serious coin on 2 5500's. I may buy it down the road. Didn't realize you were also a teacher- respect the hustle w the 2nd job bro.
Brian can you do a video of the sagola 4600 trophy truck, extreme digital and analogue. What difference have you noticed? I want to invest into the 4600 trophy truck,a gun that does it all, besides primer. Keep up the good work
Damn respect you’re a teacher doing this AFTER your class, not to forget your RU-vid checks! If you close by WA state teach me please haha…. So serious too 🫠
