I worked in banking for over 6 years in a customer facing role as well and hated it. I then left and moved to the US and was introduced to software testing. For the first time I felt happy in a job role. It’s a very interesting space and lot of room to grow. So much learning to do. All the best to you.

Glad to hear it thank you! Product Management isn’t usually a newbie role unless you’re coming through a grad program! There are some companies hiring entry level - you just have to nail the job requirements through your current skills and experiences ☺️

I just recently started taking a course in product management as well and was looking forward to her mentioning this.

IT is an extremely broad field with many different sub-fields. Its impossible to tell you exactly what you need to study as it varies a lot depending on what you want to work in IT. A general flow is: work in tech support/help desk, move onto IT field support and then move onto something like computer networking, working on servers, VOIP (digital phone systems), etc As I said, there are many pathways. Some of it is progressive and others are completely different. For instance, if you are interested in programming, that is a completely different realm than IT. A lot of IT jobs are support based, meaning you provide some sort of technical support to an end-user or someone part of your team. Programming jobs are quite different as you're usually directly working with end-users. I think you'll first want to figure out what in IT is of interest. That can help guide you to what you should study. And if you don't , sometimes just watching different IT related videos can help. Do note that companies all do things differently even within the same job category. There are usually similarities, but company 1 might have a different approach than company 2 when it comes to cyber security. So a lot of experiences from people vary depending on the company they work for even if they have similar jobs.

Fight the fear of transiting. Transition is important. You are honestly very lucky to see someone in the Tech space who's willing to "mentor" voluntarily. It's a rare opportunity to come by. So, I'd advise, go learn that web development. You won't regret it! Good luck!🎉

I also hated maths in school but still managed to learn and finish my degree! You don’t need to be a math genius, just have a foundation of the basics will really help

Nope! You only need a normal level of maths to code, if you’re advanced then it helps but it’s not necessary
